There are actually a bunch of really good SR heroes. Vargas and sophia are high level PVP viable, and the latter has all sorts of use all over PVE. Narm and Varna also have significant PVE rolls. Liffany is situationally useful. Chris can be really good too. Serena is apparently pretty good as well. There’s some funky stuff you can do with Emerick.
The case with SRs is generally that there are SSRs that outshine them and have broader purpose. but some of them are basically S-tier characters in specific situations (e.g. Narm and Varna both have AB bosses they are amazing to use on).
Heck, there are a few useful R tiers (although they have very niche uses e.g. using Lester to pull enemies in Timeless Trial battles).

I got a Luna dupe a couple of batches shy of mercy. I shouldn’t have pulled on the banner at all TBH. I’ve detoured to get her to 5* as a result (she’ll get it tomorrow), before resuming Yusuke, Sakura, Liana (who is almost there). Omega hit 5* last week.

Langrisser 5, apparently? Dunno, I’m only really familiar with the first two and what you get out of the Time Rift stories. I did want Mystery Knight because she would fit well into my Apex box and because I just kind of like mobile magic attackers. I might throw a few more pulls into it once I start getting more resources, but I also want to pull on the banner that’s expected next week. Nice break after that, though.
Well, I spent my last week of GoF’s scrouging for whatever crystals/tickets I got, and came up with another Toguro on pity and didn’t have enough to reach the next. So figured this is a good time to step off. Otherwise I get a bit irritated whenever I see a Hiei.
Don’t regret the time spent, had a good time with the game over the last year. Too bad I can’t give the account away as it’s tied to one of my primary emails. Also enjoyed the game talk with everyone here. Have fun you guys!

I don’t have mine built, so take this with a grain of salt I suppose, but I see Lanford as great if you get him early and don’t have a broad set of choices, and really great in the very endgame if you have the luxury of building a ton of characters up, but not all that useful in between.
He can fill a few different roles but isn’t the best at any of them: it’s really nice to have someone who can faction buff, run as cavalry or infantry, and has a ridiculously useful toolkit with roar / javelin / chivalry. But once you have access to a wider roster, the specialists at all of those roles are better by a decent bit (Alte, Leon, Elwin for sure, and some other options as well). Lanford’s troop selections are also quite bad, and his best choice is probably the Steel Wing Warriors that got added fairly recently and which aren’t a priority for most to build up.
On the other hand, once he’s fully built (and I do mean fully, including stars and unique item), his personal talent makes him an excellent choice for two AB fights and a decent number of challenges. Command type effects are really good when the numbers get big, and his is the best. If mine was built I’d have been all over him for the Forbidden Battleground thing that just came out, with the all-Yeless-level-70 achievement.
Really hard to recommend him as a priority for most people, though. It’s a lot of investment that only really pays off on the bleeding edge.

Just got Zerida so will be training her up also. Should she be a Ninja or Wielder of Alhazard? My other SSR is Betty but I haven’t been using her. Maybe I should though. Who knows? Just learned that the Gate of Fate missions are where you get shards to level your people up so am going to start doing those.

Mmmm, the real part of the game is starting, exciting! The 9 Gate of Fate chances you get every day are your main route to stronger characters without paying real money. There are a bunch of resources that you can kind of never have enough of, but those are about the most scarce. Make sure to use them all and use them in some kind of direction! (Oh, and get Liana to 4 stars as soon as you can: it increases the range on her passive heal/debuff removal from 1 to 2, which is super nice.)
Zerida’s preferred final class for PvP (and she’s primarily a PvP character, one of the very best) is the one that isn’t a demon, the one down the ninja line. If you do use her in PvP, though, you’ll want to use runes to open both lines at some point, so I’d bring her down whichever has the faction buff in it first (I think that’s the Alhazard side).
Betty is not-great (okay, bad) for a SSR but can still do some cool things and I could see using her out of a more limited hero set. Probably wouldn’t use more gates on her than doing them once for the crystals and eventually unlocking her bonds if you want, though. All of your other SSRs are better uses for those.

As an aside, I got lured into another gacha while looking for a mobile time waster. Arknights is a pretty fun, PvE-only grid based tower defense game. Guess I actually enjoy a casual “unlock new loot box heroes” loop from time to time…when it’s not coupled with pressure keep up in PvP. There’s a pretty good event going on right now with lots of free draws.
