Wondering if anyone can help me with this. I have a new laptop, a Toshiba Tecra S1 running windows xp (tried both pro and home edition). The CPU is a centrino 1.4gig and the sound is SoundMax onboard sound (I guess it uses the CPU to do sound). Got the sound drivers from the Toshiba website, but for some reason all sounds play just a little too slow so that they sound really low (human voices are very low like you’re playing a record at the wrong speed).
I’ve tried turning down the sample sound quality and lowering hardware acceleration. Any thoughts as to why this is happening? Thanks. Running DX 9 as well if that impacts this. Thanks again.
Sorry, I don’t have a solution for you, but I just wanted to say I also have the same problem.
What I do when that happens is I either restart the laptop or remove/redetect the soundmax in the hardware tab.
I’m not the only one having that problem: our university has made the Tecra S1 the “standard” mobile for us, and a lot of people have that problem: http://forumslibert.fsg.ulaval.ca/viewtopic.php?t=40.
(Those are the university forums (in french) with lots of people describing our exact same problem…)
The tech guy at the university hasn’t found a solution yet, if he does I’ll post it here for you. (And you do the same, please!)
I have a feeling it has something to do with the speedstep technology and we’ll have to wait for a fix from Toshiba.

Thanks for the reply. Good to know I’m not the only one. If I find anything out I will definitely fill you in. A little disappointing, but everything else about this laptop has been good so far.
