I mean, I get that our militarization prompted the soviets to retalliate… but that knife cuts both ways.
We had both built up massive militaries to fight the Axis… and were left in a situation where we were both massively armed after the war. In that situation, it was kind of impossible for either side to disarm, because it would have required trusting the other side to just stand down. And there wasn’t a lot of trust floating around between the US and the Soviets at that point.
True. I’m arguing we are past that now, I guess, regardless of joint and severable liability. Are we ready for that? There will always be some antagonism, but man it seems like a bad idea to have huge standing armies.
The Mandalay Bay security guard shot by Stephen Paddock in the moments leading up to the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history was set to break his silence Thursday night with five television interviews, including one on Fox News, Campos’ union president said.
Except when the cameras were about to roll, and media gathered in the building to talk to him, Campos reportedly bolted, and, as of early Friday morning, it wasn’t immediately clear where he was.
Dude, the answer might be simpler than that. I had a chance to go on national tv once (The Regis and Kathy Lee show, back in the day) and cancelled at the last minute because I was just too shy.
Maybe he’s just shy. You have to remember almost every on screen talent you see on tv is a grade A narcissist. Being a bit nervous/shy to go on TV should be considered normal.
Nobody cares about Vegas anymore. We’re too busy counting Harvey’s gropes and being in abject terror over the prospect of Trump starting World War III.
Meanwhile, Wayne LaPierre pours himself an expensive Scotch and puts his feet up…
Someone I know is convinced it was a robbery gone wrong and the shooting was supposed to draw attention elsewhere, but the random security officer getting shot screwed it all up. I’m all for a good conspiracy theory, but that seemed a little far fetched even for my taste.
Out of curiosity, how do people convince themselves of these things? Speculation, I get. But it actual saddens me that there are people out there who go about their lives doing exactly this: convincing themselves that something is true, based on essentially nothing.
Maybe they heard about the casino shooting in the Philippines earlier this year. A guy went into the casino and started shooting and setting fires hoping to distract from a robbery. It wasn’t wasn’t a brilliant plan but he did manage to kill dozens of people.
In Macau they’ve actually been improving security since then. Maybe Las Vegas casinos could try that instead of just pointing fingers and trying to avoid blame.
