Yeah, we really do need to slow down a bit and be more careful…I figure the first time we loose a level 1 or two, we will get the picture.
:)
I am ready to play tonight.
The lucky halfling mechanic is pretty great. I don’t think I’d leave home without one.
Well, that was an absolute blast last night! Hopefully this isn’t the end of Oloorin…he was blinded by his logic…blinded I tell you!
That was rather…daring of you.
At one end of the spectrum is Oloorin and Sailfish Bill. They tend to be the guys who bite the apple, push the button, pull the string, or talk first, shoot later. There would be no adventure without these brave souls.
At the other end of the spectrum is Bronson. “I’m getting the hell out of here!” If he was a farmer or grave digger, I would expect him to retire the next time he hits town. But, he’s a mercenary, so I think the party just needs to grease his palm to keep him around.

It’s an odd thing for me, because as the player in DCC I’m pretty happy for my guys to throw their lives away in adventure and roll up new ones. But on a character level it’s really hard to roleplay them into being gung ho at this death mansion with the big sign that says “Evil sorceror traps HERE! Sexy giant centipede queens who want to talk to you NOW!” I probably need someone to remind Bronson about the many missing rings of gold that might be lying around.
I think for me the difficulty is separating myself from the character. I want Oloorin to live, and as a player I want to be super careful. However as Oloorin, I have to block out the “meta” aspect of it. In Oloorin’s eyes, he is so intrigued by these beings that are speaking elvish. Also given the nature of where his magic comes from…he is still looking for a “Patron” to serve.
How about Sir Much-a-lot up at the dinner table, doesn’t seem like he’d be too demanding as a patron. Though I have to wonder how long he has now that his private chef met an unfortunate end.
And I totally understand trying to separate the character from the player. I starred Bill out as very careful, always staying in back, jumping in when the odds are more in his favor etc. But along the way he’s gotten a bit reckless. Still trying to define in my head which he should really be.
Looking forward to Thursday to find out what fate awaits for Oloorin.
Hopefully Gendal is alright, he hasn’t pasted on the forums here in over 2 weeks.

I’m OK! Just got back today. I was supposed to have internet access while I was traveling but… that didn’t happen.
Sorry for leaving you guys hanging for so long.
Thursday I am going to be stuck with the 18 month old while the SO goes to a meeting. He gets… very cranky when I sit at the computer and am not paying attention to him.
I’m glad you’re safe and sound Gendal!
The party is currently in the basement of The House of Ru, a certified death mansion. After mucking about on the first floor, they’ve encountered a tiny kingdom of filthy, shrunken, deformed elves (they’re halfling sized). Gundabar killed one during a tense standoff and the rest ran away. The party explored deeper into the basement, but on their return they found that the elves had blocked the exit, trapping them in the wine cellars.
Oloorin is the only one who can speak their language and he asked to speak with their queen. The elves agreed, as long as it was just him and that he come unarmed. They unbarricaded the door and grabbed up Oloorin, and then immediately started barricading the door again.
At this point, Bronson, the 1st level warrior mercenary with a DCC intelligence of 18, said to hell with this and broke through the door and ran to the stairs leading out of the cellar. The rest of the party stayed inside and the elves trapped the rest of them behind the door.
That is where we left things. Bronson is on the stairs, unsure of his next move. The party is stuck behind the door. The elves are guarding the door and watching Bronson, perhaps about to pursue him too. Oloorin has had a sack thrown over his head and been tied up and is marched into an unexplored part of the cellar and possibly pushed down into an even deeper part of the basement. The smell of this new place is unbelievably repugnant as he is brought face to face with the dungeon elf queen.
I hate to do this, because I’m keen to see what happens to Oloorin, but I have to cancel tonight’s session. I have a birthday party for my son today and then I have to help another son finish a big school project. I predict that I will be fried by 8pm. Sorry guys!
No worries Rob, enjoy the party!
Just checking in to make sure we are on for tonight. I am looking forward to finding out what happens with Oloorin.
I’m in, I just know these dirty little elves are in need of a good ole face smashing and if it takes Oloorin’s corpse to convince the rest of the party, I can live with that(of course he might have issues!). =P
I don’t deny that they might need a good face smashing, but I can’t make it tonight and so I must deny you your chance to smash face. Sorry guys, and I’m sorry to post so late in the day. Next week I should be back on track.
Ok Rob, no worries. I should be ok for next week but might be a smidge late. It’s my oldest daughters high school graduation, we should be all done by then but just putting the warning out there in case dinner goes late.
So I know it is only Tuesday, but just checking in to see if we are on track to play this week?
I look forward to seeing what happens with Oloorin.
We have a dinner reservation for 7pm so unless dinner goes long I should be back and ready to play.
Fun session last night Rob…poor George!
