Based off that, I’m curious if you think we’d have a better democracy if California had 66 members of the House of Representatives to every 1 for Wyoming. Totally reasonable belief, but I never hear that argument, I only hear it about the EC (and I have also seen arguments for eliminating the Senate for similar reasons).

California has 53 U.S. Representatives. Wyoming has 1. Representatives are already allocated proportionally by population. They’re a little off because there aren’t enough of them to make the even-ness more fine-grained.

But yeah, I’ve advocated for making this better before:

Instead of having a fixed number of Congressional reps, each rep should represent a fixed number of people within a geographic area: say 500,000. As the population grows, so does Congress. It should be perfectly fine for Congressional districts to cross state lines where appropriate. Districting done by a national independent commission following California’s model.
