Well, it’s just that our Annie was completely useless, because anytime she tried to so much as use her Q on a creep, she’d get snared and then exploded. Two champs’ worth of DPS and snares just made her sit down and die. Admittedly, I would then kill them both, because they were horrible and I could kite them forever as Kog’maw, but it just didn’t go well at all.
Sounds more like your Annie just wasn’t that good.
Well, there’s not that much she could do, is there? She could stun and start running, but if she didn’t have Flash up, what’s she going to do to get away with Exhaust on? Which is also going to reduce her burst if she turns and tries to fight.
The most success we had was her running until Exhaust was gone and then dropping her burst, then dying immediately thereafter. This allowed me to clean up, but only because the enemy champions were bad and basically just ate my (Kog’Maw) DPS / snares / artillery.
I played against a Kog’Maw the other day who got fed and build Rylai’s, two deatchcaps, and a couple other AP items. He had the Uncle Sam skin which changes the artillery animation and I swear it had longer range and fell faster than I remember, but it was probably just that I hadn’t played against a good Kog’Maw in a while. Anyway, he was pretty ridiculous as long as he had mana.
She has the longest level 1 auto attack range in the game. I know Annie wants to get her stun up, but not dying and farming is more important than getting her stun built up and then getting killed over and over. How pushed out were you guys? Annie can still use her flame thrower on air to build up to a stun, and last hit from very far away with her auto attack.
As you know it’s not ideal for two characters who both need to farm heavily to share a side lane. Not always your choice of course - pubbies will insist on taking lanes (politely or worse threaten to AF if they don’t get a lane), lane matchups might dicate what you do, etc.
It sounds like part of your problem was an Annie-Kog pairing. Kog’Maw is the squishiest champ in the game and can’t really save anyone or hold people off before level 6. Annie’s spells are short range so if she isn’t that great and they have a ranged stun she will need saving, which Kog can’t do until he’s farmed/levelled enough to scare people off with pure damage.
It’s only the stupid meta games that says an AP carry shouldn’t go solo lane mid, but it is recommended since it allows to snowball faster with the level and gold advantage.
I want to say they sped up the “landing” animation on the artillery or something in a patch a few months back, but I might be crazy. R’s range goes from “super annoying in lane” at one point to “WTF” to “I am i hell”. Rylai’s rules with R. I wouldn’t do 2 deathcaps however.
I thought AP mid was the metagame and has been the metagame since as long as I’ve been playing. For a while you could do AP solo top and AD mid, but your AP carry has always been solo.
Seemed a bit overkill, but it was late game and he was destroying everything so it wasn’t the worst choice, I guess.

Yeah it makes perfectly fine sense. You want someone with extreme burst damage, or some extremely useful ultimate, to hit levels 6 and 11 before everyone else.
What am i saying is, going with an AP carry in a duo lane wont make him “bad”, but will slow down his progress by a lot.

Pretty much. Playing support in public game is a risky proposition because you’re now relying on the competency of your team mates who you don’t know to win you the game.
You’re never able to go “Well if I just farm up I can probably turn the tide of this game” when you’re playing Soraka.
The real solution here is AD carry Janna.
If you’re playing well below your Elo, then maybe you can brute force your way to victory with a carry, but if you aren’t that much better than the rest of the players I haven’t found that to be so effective. Map awareness and crowd control (which Janna brings in spades) tend to be more lacking at low to mid Elo than competent carries in my experience, but I guess ymmv.

Let me ask a question. I understand the value of wards. I also understand general placement (warding river, buffs, ambush points when towers go down, etc.).
But how do you gracefully become the “ward guy” for your team without essentially spending all of your time running from ward spot to ward spot?
When I jungle Warwick, I get Wriggles, and I generally do a reasonable job of slapping the free ward from that down on Baron or Dragon in river. But even that sometimes feels like I’m really having to go out of the way (missing farm or team fights) half the time, and I can’t imagine how much worse it would be were I to try to routinely keep up 3 or 4 of them, what with their 3 minute expiration.
How do you gracefully place wards in meaningful spots without throwing off your general gameplay?
At my elo being another carry doesn’t seem super helpful. Being nigh-unkillable does help a lot. But yeah, supports are an exercise in rage due to how much you need your team mates to not be bad.
As for their win stats, I am not surprised, a support or two of some kind probably features in most high end games and one side does have to win :)

The highest ranking asshats in the world and the EU meta have managed to convince people that they should be yelled at and assaulted if they are a jungler or support that doesn’t ward the whole map.
The jungler wards when he gets to a location that he’s going to be near anyways. He’s supposed to protect his own jungle.
Support needs to protect bot lane for uninterrupted farming and most certainly dragon.
Top and mid buy their own wards for their own protection during the early and mid-game.
Anyone who is returning to their lane to push it and farm huge creep waves needs to buy their own wards. You get that gold back with 3-4 creep kills anyways.
When the game is nearing the end and people have filled slots, support needs to try to keep warding, except the other team may have an oracles. At this point, it’s time to yell at your support, calling him a homofag noob bitch motherfucker for not having wards at baron even though he actually did put down wards at baron but they were all just recently destroyed like literally 15 fucking seconds ago by the invulnerable enemy tank that has an oracles. It’s cool though, just keep saying it’s his fault for being a shitty Janna/Taric/Sona, three champions you’re not allowed to play because you carried yourself to 2200 and there are a thousand important anonymous people from the internet that are judging you for how well you carry games with the one of 3 champions that you play constantly.
I just buy wards every time I go back to base and place them wherever I end up going.
There are so many good places to put wards! :)
Basically everyone should ward their own side of the map.

Gah, getting focused while trying to jungle with Yi isn’t good, set me back that entire game and probably costs us the game.
Our Katarina feeding also didn’t help much.
