I’ve only been playing off and on for a couple weeks now but been surprised how much I’m enjoying it. Did play Demigod, but it really soured me on the whole style of game.

I started with Blitzcrank when he was free and saved up for Garen as I am somewhat partial to the melee style of play and his early power. However, I tried Janna on a whim tonight for an entirely different experience and am just highly amused by the tornado, powerful slow, buff to teammates that actually seems to make a difference and of course the wonderful ultimate that separates enemy teams and heals pretty well.

I’m reading a couple guides that google found, but any tips on how to play her or support characters like her? I need to save up for some runes I guess, but I’m having real mana issues early and even later on plus I know I’m support, but my damage output seems worse than it could be. I’m using Clarity and Clairvoyance as I don’t have the level for Flash yet and I’m trying to learn to cast Clairvoyance without just popping it on random lanes or spots near jungle monsters. Currently I’m getting the health regen item that leads to Philosopher’s Stone and a mana potion first thing and then it’s a while before I can get boots and other things as I’ve read I should let the other champions get the gold as they need it more. Mid to late game I still seem to have a good amount from limited farming and items like Kage’s Lucky Pick and the stone.

Frustrating experiences seem to include seeing two melee champions go top or bottom leaving me to partner with a mage which doesn’t really benefit that strongly from my +damage shield or being able to run in there and chase slow enemies. Assume there’s nothing to do about that but play with premades, but would you even bother suggesting on chat that one of them go elsewhere and let me support a character like Garen or Yi? Hmm, 4 AM, sorry for the ramble, just interested in QT3 opinion.

Gah, some games. Ranked - the last two added another two carries to the mix (ashe and tryn) and then went top while I jungled, leaving Talon bottom vs Leona and Kog. Top then got ganked a lot by their jungler and mid while cussing us all out all the time. So awful. Also had to report their singed who swore at me a lot because I was udyr and I was popping off suns. Jeez. So bad. I think top were eastern European by the odd accent on their typing and the broken English insults :/

Trying to go through your points in order:

  • Yeah, you want a philostone first for the mana regen. Until you get that just cast less abilities. Once you get to a higher level you can start getting +mana regen runes.
  • As a Janna you do zero damage. All your abilities for are disruption, not damage dealing.
  • Unless you’re regularly seeing junglers in your games I wouldn’t bother with CV yet.
  • Yes, you shouldn’t get creep kills as a support if your lanemate is reliably getting them. But if they aren’t, and creeps are going to waste, just take as many as you can.
  • All the items you mention seem fine.

Actually Janna’s ability do quite a lot of damage if build full AP :p

I hear nunu does a lot of damage late game if you build 5 rabadons and abyssal sceptre too.

Or you’re sitting outside their fountain nuking them as they respawn for lulz? I guess that would mean they fucked up for not surrendering though.

Is there a group of you guys I could join? I just went 10/4/23 as Orianna and lost, because a player left our team 15 min in. This game is just enormously frustrating due to the constant leavers, feeders, and assholes that fill it.

I’d say slightly fewer leavers and trolls in ranked, but you never really get away from it entirely.
