So a question:

If you guys are amazingly impacted by the random 4 other players on your team . . .

Have you considered switching to 3v3?

My own play experience is similar - at times we get great teammates who ward the map or at least thank me for warding, we work together well, and fight a great game . . .

And then there are times when my level 30 teammates appear to be completely on a different page as me:

Jax sitting at the tower in bottom lane in 3v3, letting me die repeatedly to the other two players and running to the SECOND tower every time they pushed, slowly getting further and further behind - yelling at me for being a feeder.
Tristana getting two kills to start the game from me as they focused on me GP, leaving me with zero health . . . I port back to heal, and come back to the lane . . . where she leaves me solo at level 1 vs. two level 2 opponents, and then begins railing about me as useless and a feeder as she proceeds to go to 2/5/3 uselessly wandering about.
The team picking me as the feeder, again as I’m playing Alistair, and roundly railing on me as the newbie, even though I had CV and constant ward coverage of the map . . . because 3/7/3 is just not acceptable as a tank . . .

It doesn’t have the flavor of 5v5.

Also, if I’m materially affected by one out of five of my teammates randomly being an idiot (or let’s be honest, really, really good), I could argue that person being one out of three teammates would heighten the effect.

I think I need to find someone to queue with. If two people on the team aren’t awful then maybe that would swing the odds enough that games would be more reliable.

Or I need to give up on ranked. Non-ranked games are more random but also pretty meaningless.

Nocturne’s a solid champion that still gets picked up in high ranking play. I think espressojim uses him a lot in ranked play for jungling. For regular games you might get bitched at for taking nocturne into a lane, however, since he’s such a strong jungler.

Leona needs a competent team moreso than other tanks, because she does pitiful damage pretty much all game.

I suggest cooldown reduction of some sort… Ionian boots and Frozen Heart perhaps.

I play around 0900Z. I find if I ever get a game in US prime time then match making is more reliable due to the greater pool of players. Or something.

I prefer starting leona with philostone and heart of gold since her farm is so difficult. I tend to finish the HoG into a randiun’s instead of building frozen heart since it synergizes well with your using W+E to wade into the middle of the enemy. Also, Philostone into Shurelya’s for the health, CDR, and team runspeed buff on demand. When you have both you can cruise into the enemy at high speed and slow them down on arrival.

Those are better suggestions, but I feel if she’s got cooldown then she really wants to have some extra mana from somewhere.

I tend to not rage, and take my small victories where I can.

Losing the game but winning the lane, etc.

And, I freely admit that there are games that I just fuck up horribly. When every facecheck goes wrong, every ult is mistimed, every skillshot is missed. It happens.

Not enough to take a leave from the game . . .

I had a very hard carry Tristana game yesterday where I farmed, farmed, farmed, and was worthless for the first 35 minutes, but started melting faces at the end. A bit disheartening that I didn’t really feel useful until 40 minutes in, though.

Yeah, well, that is the reason I just uninstalled, Calistas.

I played four games that were all plagued with some kind of issue- leavers, feeders (Annie was 0-11-0, never used her bear or any spells) and assholes. In each game, my team refused to surrender, and I ended up playing for 40-50 minutes. So, that is something on the order of 4 hours of my life that I will never get back. After the fourth time I just took a hard look at the situation and asked myself “why am I doing this?”

The answer was because I really like the gameplay when the teams are balanced, and work together. The kind of gameplay that never actually happens. So, I uninstalled. I don’t mind losing, but I do mind being chained to a game for 40 min to an hour when we never had a chance of winning. Anyway, rant over. GL HF all.

You could always try to play exclusively with qt3 people and/or other people you know. Premade 5s is pretty much a whole different game. It does make it suck to go 0-7 and have no random pubbie to blame for my own suckiness that game, and you have to get used to playing against other premades and a lot of early ganks, but other than that it’s much better.
