His team later said Malz’s bans were based entirely on who he didn’t want to fight mid.

My point still stands :p

I have a feeling that Orianna could be a decent soloer. If you get Rylais it makes kiting easier and she has slow/haste

You’ll probably want a Catalyst for mana issues, so that becomes either a RoA or Banshee. Rylai’s is probably overkill at that point; lots of hps and mana, minimal AP. Probably a better idea to spend the 3k on most of a Deathcap instead of Rylai’s.

I can see it not being fun to fight Galio as Akali. Though when I’ve been the Galio in that matchup I haven’t managed to outright win the lane, sadface.

Not that ragequitting after dying twice in eight minutes is acceptable, of course.

I like going against Akali as Galio. Oh you shrouded? Okay well I’ll just drop my AoE in your shroud. And now my other AoE. And now I will punch you. GG.

Uh, Rylai’s gives more base AP than any other item besides Zhonya’s and Deathcap, and no mana at all.

Catalyst makes playing Oriana a lot more fun - the earlier, the better.

Oh, I really should learn GP better. Is he still omg op op op? I’d pick him just for that to give my team the edge if I felt I could be reliable with him. I’m pretty reliable with Udyr, who is similarish (I mean… bit of speed, melee), but squishy melee characters seem to defeat my brain’s ability to use them.

He’s saying the earlier choices give you that, which means you then need to itemize AP. A Rylai’s will put you too far behind the power curve.

L2ReadNOOB ;)

I usually rush the Rod of Ages to deal with her mana costs, and now that her Q is a little more expensive, it’s a better first item, imo.

I have a blast with Jungle Plank. His ult gives him some great presence across the map.

Since you need the catalyst to build it we’re both right :)

And yeah, from RoA on you’re golden.

You’re right, you can read mx’s post either way. His dim future as a copy editor aside, how is getting one of the best AP items not itemizing for AP? Of course everyone who ever gets AP will get a Deathcap too, so depending on the game you might want to get it first, but it’s not like Rylai’s isn’t an AP item.

Eh after they nerfed his scurvy stacks back down I didn’t find him as OP. He’s still fairly strong but his jungle got slowed way down. He’s not high on my preference list right now for jungle choices.

I think Rylai’s is not a really good item to build unless you really need that slow and HP, in some champ i would agree its good (Morde, Cassio…) but if yuou want straight up AP you should go for a Death cap and RoA otherwise you fall in the “Power Curve”

Also it’s not one of the best AP items in the game.

Rylai’s is nice for any AP champ that doesn’t use mana. For mana users it’s usually a toss up between rushing Rylai’s and RoA, and RoA tends to win due to the catalyst providing great early game sustainability over just having a Giant’s belt.

If you have lots of ways to use the slow and aren’t having mana problems Rylai’s is great. By one of the best AP items I was referring to it giving more AP than most other items, excluding the obvious two. RoA takes twenty minutes to have the same AP as Rylai’s.

Pretty sure they sped up ROA’s finish time. Although I don’t know how long it takes now to complete.

~C~

Oh yeah I forgot, they made it so it only takes ten minutes to fill up now.

If you have lots of ways to use the slow, aren’t having mana problems, need/want a big hp boost, and don’t need that much (more) AP to do real damage, then Rylai’s is great. If you’re more concerned with utility than damage, Rylai’s is great. That’s why it’s not great on Orianna; a 15% slow on her q and e will not dramatically increase her utility, she won’t need the hps after the cata, and she does need a significant amount of AP to boost her damage.

And yes, Rylai’s gives five or ten more AP than lots of other items, but those items cost 2/3 as much. Void and DFG provide a much more impressive damage boost than Rylai’s does, AP difference or no

I’ve been unenthused by Void Staff as compared to Abyssal Scepter lately. Unless the enemy is literally stacking MR, it feels like Scepter + flat mpen runes is quite good enough on my AP characters, and the Scepter gives me some nice magic resist.

Void is better when they have >~80MR after your flat reduction/penetration, if I remember the maths correctly

I should have bookmarked my post about magic penetration from boots/staff/runes from a dozen pages ago or whenever.
