Anyone knows how big the aura from abyssal is?

use at your own risk.

Does this mean it’s not working? I don’t entirely follow. If it’s not working, is fiddle’s passive not working?

What’s not working?

It’s situational, but bear in mind that this started as a discussion about Orianna, and prior to the patch she absolutely could not count on being close enough to the enemy for Abyssal to weaken them. Not sure how true that is now.

In general, though, if you go Abyssal and they get more MR than you were expecting, you’re kinda screwed. If you get a void, maybe it’s overkill, maybe you lose a little efficiency, but if Jax buys a second negatron you’re not too fussed.

Sure, get an abyssal if you’re expecting to be in the middle of it (everyone say hi to Fiddle!), but if you’re not? Well, idris gave you the chart.

Abyssal can give you away though. If observant players are, say, approaching baron where your team is in the bushes, they may notice the debuff appear on them and stop. Doesn’t happen often, but I’ve seen it happen.

Abyssal Scepter is a tank item for casters, you get it for survival (with the other stats on the item simply bonus). Unless you need to be super tanky/in the middle of a ton of AoE (eg. Kennen, Fiddle, Amumu) then an Abyssal Rush isn’t going to be helping you very much.

nod Which would explain why I’ve seen it recommended on Ryze (as a last item), but not on Annie.

Gah that would be an annoying Ryze.

Even on Ryze you only get it after you’ve gotten all the good mana items, to help cut enemy magic resist and contribute to his tankiness

Yep. Tear, Boots, RoA, Veil, Frozen Heart, and then Abyssal because there’s no mana items left! And an Archangel’s upgrade as very last because the additional AP helps very little.

At that point I’d advise a Void Staff 100%, especially as it allows you to switch to merc threads which would be desperately needed by that point in the game (and by then the passive you are paying a decent amount of cash for is practically useless in terms of a DPS increase).

Had two games as Oriana where I’m facing Kat mid. First game - I did ok and didn’t die. Second game, the Kat was VERY good and I couldn’t land my ball on her, got the bouncing blades in my face and she shun-po’d me low enough to get a gank.

I know I notionally out-range her, but she was damn quick to dodge Q’s and even if I land a Q and W I’d be out of mana well before she died, and then the tower would be hers regardless. Very annoying. Oh, no jungler :/

I think I would have to see someone doing it to get how to pull it off. Or practice.

Had a game as Malz yesterday against Shaco. Was harder then I expected. He kept meticulously out of my range, placed boxes at the sides to foil our jungler and only approached me under stealth. Couldn’t really do damage to him at all and their jungle Amumu prohibited me from being more agressive.

I did have over twice the CS he had. So I suppose that counts as winning the lane?

Aslong as you didnt lose your tower and didnt allow him to gank other lanes then i would say yes :p

Is there a good site where high quality (i.e. good players) existing recorded games are categorized by champions?

I know there are a lot of streaming sites out there, but I’m not looking for live streaming. I know there are some sites with recordings, but I’ve seen fewer that actually have paradigms of good play on a champion by champion basis. SoloMid has some, but it’s pretty weak (because somewhat unlike their guides, you don’t know for sure what you’re getting, plus the number of them are pretty limited for a lot of champs).

Solomid now has an official commentary for every champion, Chaox did it as part of a give back to the community thing. They are almost all good quality games.

TreeEskimo also has an extensive archive with commentary but I mean, good luck sifting through Own3d’s definition of an archive system (It’s fucking terrible and I swear some videos are gone forever, even though they promise they delete nothing).

Other then that, find a livestreamer that you enjoy and check out their archives. I still think Solomid is probably the best place to go for anything like that. Their video system is categorized quite well.

Yeah, as I mentioned, I know about that one, but it’s pretty limited (e.g. two videos for Orianna).

Anything else out there?

If you are looking specifically for Orianna, check out Roku’s archive, he only plays casters and is usually fun to watch, or sift through CLG’s communal archive (good luck) for Bigfatlp’s Orianna games.
