dominion up on eu west right now

Damn! I got some dominions on eu west last night - our team beat Riot Ymir’s (who was playing a scary trynd) in an epic 25m game that was quite close. I think we lost a bunch of the other ones for some reason. There’s this balance to capturing, farming, etc that I don’t think I have any grasp on yet, but will be as key as understanding the laning phase on summoner’s rift.

My problem right now is knowing what’s worth gold, and how much - obviously holding points is priorty as it wins you the game, gives you money for capture (is that split between people, does everyone get the same amount, etc?) and gives you gold / sec. Bigger minions appear to be worth ~ 60 gold and smaller ones 30. Champs are…I don’t know how much. So I don’t have a strong sense of if I should push to capture that 4th point, or sit back and farm/defend a point and force them to come to me (probably smarter in many cases?) Time management seems key. Also, perhaps picking one champ on your team to hold the big buff in the middle of the map might be useful.

All in all, fun and refreshing.

Who wants to help me pick a team comp? I’ve been playing with some friends and we’re having a good time but we tend to switch characters constantly so that hasn’t been helping us win. We’ve decided to pick a main guy that we’ll play most of the time when we’re together. So I asked everyone to pick their favorites to see if we could make a good team out of it. Pick your favorite team using one champ from each line:

Most of us are pretty easy going about who we play, though I do know that the guy on the bottom row much prefers Udyr to the rest of his list. So there’s that. We’re not a serious business team looking to play ranked games, we’ve got 3 relatively new 30s, a 27 and a 20 among us for whatever that’s worth.

Your bot lane isn’t ideal tbh, but it’s the best you got. In addition your WW player can also play both Swain and Ryze top aswell if needed, but WW would definitely be preferable.

Udyr’s a great jungler, so I’ll start with Udyr picked.
Swain’s an amazing champion, better than Ryze, who’d be my other pick from that line.
I’m pretty sure that in non-ranked games, an Ashe/Lux lane will do fine (and I think Ashe is a better carry than Miss Fortune).
That leaves you someone who can play Katarina, Yorick, and Wukong as your top solo. If you’re playing draft pick, counterpick it; if you’re playing blind pick, just go with Yorick, because he makes people want to stab their eyes and brain out.

McK: Well the Ashe is me and I actually have a pretty big list of champs I wouldn’t mind playing. If you had a few suggestions to replace Ashe with I bet I could find one I like.

Sivir’s Q does magic damage. It scales on both AD and AP, and it scales better on AD (but it’s not as prounounced as some other examples, .9 vs .7 or something). Probably the ideal example, since the only AP item you would ever get on Sivir is a Gunblade (and it’s not a bad idea; it adds like 112 damage to Q on top of the other benefits. Of course, it being not a bad idea is mitigated by the fact that you chose to play Sivir).

MF’s ult does magic damage. It also scales on AD and AP, and I’d swear the AD scaling is better but I don’t care to look it up. Some people occasionally build her AP, but it’s not that great. Her E scales on AP/does magic damage (make it rain). Her W passive scales every so slightly on AP and adds magic damage to auto attacks.

I don’t recall the type of damage on TF’s individual cards. They do scale on both AP and AD. He may or may not count.

All of Kog’s abilities do magic damage; now his Ult also scales on AD (and at a better ratio than AP, .5 vs .3). Though you don’t, strictly speaking, build him as AD if you go that route. You build more AS/On hit and get magic pen for all of his abilities.

Kat’s Bouncing Blade and Death Blossom both scale on AP + Ad but do magic damage. Though you don’t build her AD either, so it doesn’t matter I suppose.

Since person 5 prefers Udyr, it’s best to stick with it. Which makes Amumu a lock for tank. You’ve got lots of AP carries left and not much AD ranged. I’m assuming Ashe listed as third is not really a preferred champ to play. Maybe go Brand, Ryze/Swain and AD Katarina.

So you have Udyr, Amumu, Brand, Ryze, Kat. 4 stuns and plenty of AoE hurt.

Yeah yesterday I went from “unranked” with no Elo displaying, to 1237 after a game in which I got +44 Elo on victory.

I’m not sure if they don’t let you see your Elo if its under 1200 now, or if you have to hit a threshold of games before you can see it (I believe this was my 10th ranked game of preseason). I know I could see my Elo last week, but since they re enabled ranked I hadn’t seen it.
