Depends on whether you want to be good. You don’t have to have voice chat.

You do have to play religiously to keep up (if you want to be good) just to know and understand what all of the champions can do to you if nothing else.

You don’t need a steady team.

Just checking, because it looks vaguely interesting and besides hey, 183 page thread deserves looking in.

Voice chat just makes it more fun, because you can play with friends and have a laugh. You definitely don’t have to play it religiously but (just a small warning) keep in mind that if you start playing and enjoy it, you’ll find you probably will (kinda like how WoW works). You definitely don’t have to be on a steady team, matchmaking is very good and most of the player base solo queue.

Check the links in the OP, I try to keep it relatively updated. And just give it a try cos hey, it’s free so why not?

I notice the HoN thread is only 24 pages long, although there is some overlap in participants. Is this just more populated and thus faster to find games, or is there something intrinsic that’s just better done in LoL?

LOL thread would be longer if we didn’t get a cease notice because the old thread was going too long causing slowdown on QT3.

HoN died off because it used to be Pay2Play, unlike LoL. While I’m sure people could argue for pages (and have) about the differences between HoN and LoL, basically all you need to know is:

They are both F2P now, LoL has a far bigger userbase (HoN is a basically dead game), LoL has AI to play against, LoL’s community is far, far nicer in general (alá TF2 in comparison to CoD) and HoN is much more faithful to the original DotA.

Sounds like Dignitas vs TSM which is an exceptional matchup. Dignitas got Voyboy back (he couldn’t play in the last tournament because he’s a minor and it was held in Atlantic City).

Most of what McKnight says about HoN is accurate, but I don’t know that I’d characterize it as dead. There are tens of thousands of players on any given night. Far less popular than League, certainly, owing to its formerly pay-to-play status, dickface community, less forgiving nature, and a few other factors. But a lot of us still play.

Marcin, you don’t NEED voice chat, but you do need good communication if you want to do well against anything but terrible players. You can do it with text, you can do it with pings, you can do it with voice chat, but communication is important.

RS (Diginitas now) plays her all the time. Scarra is scary with her, and with every champ to be fair, and they mainly use her as a counter pick because a lot of the popular champs right now lack hard CC.
