Heimerdinger isn’t really a support character. To the extent that he’s a viable pick – which he is at most non-super-serious Elos if played well – he’s a solid choice for mid, although he should be careful not to overextend since he tends to push the lane.
AD carries mid are currently out of vogue, because the current hotness is to send an AP carry there and they usually blow up AD carries, since the AD is usually weak early and suffers against the burst of a caster like Annie.
Were you soloing top or laning with someone? If with someone, who was it? The current trend is to lane your AD carry bottom with a support so they can farm and not die.
Not that you can’t win with other setups, but that’s what’s popular at the moment and there are valid reasons for that.

His passive is to repair towers ;D

I honestly cannot remember who I laned with, I played a lot of matches that day. Like I said, we won, and to some degree I don’t care anymore where I go, at my weak level of skill it doesn’t make all that much of a difference.

Okay, well, I was trying to explain why things were the way they were, because you asked. Apparently you don’t really want to know, in which case I’m not sure why you asked?

His passive is crap. Your justification for him not needing to go mid was kind of wrong.
And if you’re going to use passives to justify where someone should lane, as Caitlyn your passive is completely useless in mid.
So I’m sorry but… no.
Well, Caitlyn can charge up on creeps and then use her headshot to do a little more damage to a champ? Or help her in a last hit she might not otherwise have gotten? Heh.
So how do people deal with Sion? I’ve been dealing with him by banning him, because I hate his guts, but what do you counterpick him with if he goes top or mid solo?

Actually, you already gave me the answer to the question I actually asked, which is, should Heimerdinger be playing solo mid.
I cannot give you the information you needed for your follow up question, because I can’t remember. I don’t know how that translates into you being butthurt about my lack of deference.
But it’s not a big deal. It didn’t cost us the game, and I’m not playing at a skill level where playing “out of position” makes all that huge a difference.
I’m going out of my way here to indicate that me and Heimer got through the match okay, I’m not raging that my point of view wasn’t supported, etc.
It’s cool. It’s okay. Good to know.

I wasn’t comparing passives. I was saying Heimer’s passive could help someone in a duo lane, where Cait’s need for stuff would serve her better solo than Heimer, ie. I felt that Cait was more farm dependent than Heimer.
But apparently that’s not true, and it wound up not mattering much either way.
Heimer’s passive is a really slow regen that can actually heal towers, if you like standing next to them for half hour, but he play just like any AP carry.

I don’t understand why Caitlyn’s passive is completely useless mid?
Is it a good idea to get Wriggles on Vayne before an iedge? Or do I really need to just get the IE+zeal so that I have some presence before I worry about survival?

Because Caitlyn’s passive charges up in half the time if you shoot from a bush?
Then it’s only half useless!

Because to answer your question I first had to explain that your preexisting assumptions (like Heimer being a support) are wrong. The rest was an explanation of why certain champions are in certain lanes. You ignored the rest of the post completely in your response, including the short-version answer to your question, leading me to conclude that you hadn’t paid attention to it. Then you said this:
Like I said, we won, and to some degree I don’t care anymore where I go, at my weak level of skill it doesn’t make all that much of a difference.
Are we done here? Good.

You get head shots 2x as fast hiding in the bush at top/bot. Its not useless mid, but it goes against the argument oh hiem’s ult being useless/wasted mid.

Right. You explained that fine.
The rest was an explanation of why certain champions are in certain lanes.
That’s nice, but it’s not what I asked.
You ignored the rest of the post completely in your response, including the short-version answer to your question, leading me to conclude that you hadn’t paid attention to it.
The rest of your post was entirely reliant on me giving you info I couldn’t give you, which I said right up front. And then I tried to let you off the hook, essentially, by reiterating that it wound up not mattering much anyway. i.e., I’m not deeply invested in being right, and the “lesson” to be learned about optimal laning is kind of mooted by my overall lack of skill to begin with. Apparently you took that as me blowing you off.
Are we done here? Good.
Just consider the possibility that this whole thing got dickish for no real reason because you assumed my intent incorrectly.
Hugin you’re turning into a real LoL player!

I’m very torn about LoL really.
I enjoy playing the game. But I don’t know if I want to invest in the time and effort it would take to be “good”. I mean, I don’t want to be bad, but sometimes it feels like the space between where I am and where I’d like to be isn’t worth it. I’ve never cared about being a “competitive” player, and I’ve never really cared about heavy pvp stuff.
At the moment I have the basic competence to win Intermediate games against bots, and not be a total disaster in the very few team games I play. But when I get into ranked games…bleah. That’s going to be ugly.
I dunno. I feel like I’m in a limbo, above “OMG that complete idiot lost us the game”, but well below being any kind of actual asset. But sometimes I feel like the game is hopelessly fiddly and meta-theory-y and maybe not for me in the long run.

Actually, I think a lot of average players like ranked. There’s a whole world of people below 1200 who don’t seem to mind being there. I’m sure you would encounter people who bitch about how everyone else sucks, but I also imagine that you fall into a level where you no longer get that one guy on the enemy team that mops everyone up because he’s a pro player that queued into a normal game with his level 10 friend.
That meta-theory isn’t required. Not even the pros look at exact numbers. There are great items for some champs, above average items, and then there are items you get that benefits a specific matchup, and none of that really requires research, just a bit of thought and knowing what items are in the game and what they do. It also requires hitting TAB sometimes so that you can notice that even though the enemy team might have 3 champs that do magic damage, the pure-physical-damage Vayne is the one that is 3 levels above everyone else and has 100 more creep kills than everyone else, so you should probably get some armor and not magic resist.

I think “useless” might be a bit too strong if that is the reason.
