Well, I meant that if the Tear and Manamune up-to-1k passive stacked, the combination of them would be too amazing to avoid mention in the various guides.

Yeah
that’s why it’s a Unique Passive that doesn’t let you have all 3 items in order to get +3000 mana.

Aww, why shouldn’t I be running around as Ryze with >6k mana

:)

Lord, it’s bad enough running around with 4300ish mana by 35 minutes into most of my games. The only guy last game I couldn’t kill with one round of nukes was Galio, who was running around with 147 magic armor.

A void staff will take that down to 88.

Yeah, but the game ended just as I finished the void staff. :(

Void Staff + Sorc Boots + the 15% Mastery would have meant being able to hurt Galio pretty hard. :)

if you get void staff, you should sell your sorc boots and buy defensive boots instead.

I should? I didn’t realize that. Would Merc Treads be the way to go, or should I get the ones with more move speed?

In addition to these great rewards for our competitive ladder champions, upon the completion of the season we will be giving everyone who participated something special. So we have decided to issue each and every summoner that played at least 10 games over the course of Season One in any game mode a special, commemorative skin for Kayle, the Judicator, to thank for helping to make the our first competitive season such a smashing success.

Also stay tuned for further information on the competitive ladder as Season Two draws closer! We will be performing a partial ladder reset to mark the beginning of Season Two. Rather than a full reset, players will have their Elo rating reset to certain milestone values based upon their finish at the closing of Season One. More details will be coming as we draw closer to the event.

As promised, no full Elo reset.

Wut? Why would you do this?

They still haven’t set a date though right?

Because late game Flat magic pen is both almost useless and also diminishing the effect of your % penetration because it is applied first.

The highest base MR is 54. Almost half the champions have MR that scales per level.

Let’s say the average base MR in the game is 50 and the champion has no Aegis buff or MR boots.

Mastery: 50-(0.15*50) = 42.5 MR
Sorc Boots: 50-20 = 30 MR
Sorc Boots + Mastery: (50 - 20) - (50-20)0.15= 30-4.5 = 25 MR
Void Staff + Mastery + Boots: 30 - 30(0.49) = 30-14.7 = 15 MR
Void Staff + Mastery (no boots) = 50 - 50(0.49) = 50-24.5 = 25 MR
Void Staff: 50 - 50(0.40) = 50-20 = 30 MR

Sorc Boots by themselves do quite a significant amount of penetration against unbuffed carries.

I’m not much of a proponent of the mastery. People think it’s required for a caster carry, but I don’t feel that way at all.

150 MR Tank
Mastery + Boots: 130 - 130(0.15) = 130-20 = 110 MR
Void Staff + Mastery + Boots: 130 - 130(0.49) = 130-64 = 66 MR
Void Staff + Mastery: 150 - 150(0.49) = 76.5 MR
Void Staff + Boots: 130 - 130(0.40) = 78 MR
Void Staff: 150 - 150(0.40) = 90 MR

You can sort of see how Sorc Boots lose a large part of their effectiveness in the late game after a Void Staff is bought (they lose exactly the amount of %penetration, so 20 flat penetration loses out by 40% with a void staff
resulting in that 12 MR difference in the last two examples).

The difference between Mastery and non-Mastery seems like a big 14 MR, but at those MR numbers going from 90 to 76 MR doesn’t actually result in much of an increase in damage. 76 MR is 44% damage. 90 MR is 47% damage.

I always forget to do it when I’m playing AP carry, but I think at late game if you can get a Void Staff, you should sell your Sorc Boots and replace them with any of the other defensive boots (even dodge if it’s a late game Trynd kicking your ass). When people start getting Banshee’s Veils is when you should be looking at a Void Staff as soon as possible.

Damnit, I already have that skin >.<

~C~

what mcknight said.

sorc boot is awesome if you have +10 magic pen from runes. because you basically bypass 100% most of the carry’s base mr.

but by the time you want to get void staff, flat Magic pen becomes useless.

example galio’s 147 MR

(147 - 20) / 40% = 76 MR left, basically your 20 magic pen boots it’s only worth about 12 compare to use only void staff’s 88 MR.

this gap becomes shorter as enemy stack more MR too.

This is what was happening
oh well, I’ve played a lot of matches now and that’s the only constant cherry picker I’ve seen so far.

Doesn’t really matter, get over the mindset that people are stealing your kills. You might kill him or you might not, this way it’s for sure.

Man, why hadn’t i played Gangplank yet :s So much fun, after you get the infinity edge, he’s such a monster :>

Be careful with this assumption.

I see a lot of newb players who lane with me who run in and die, not realizing that I had already used spells to CC+damage someone (especially as Morgana) and no longer have anything left to cast while they are running away and getting slaughtered. My cooldowns will come up and I will finish off one of the enemies that just killed my ally, or something like that.

They will then complain that I was waiting to kill steal, or that I didn’t do anything while they died, because they make the stupid assumption that I have my spells ready, or that I have enough mana left to do anything useful.

Those are the worst players, the most annoying, the most bitchass commentators in /chat.

Meh, by that point in the game the bonus MR and tenacity of merc treads is probably not enough to save your life anyway.

Jungle GP is where its at, although I feel like the latest nerf really slowed me down more than I was expecting. I generally go Wriggle’s into Tri-Force. And if the game is somehow still going after that then IE or PD but I rarely get to that point even though I’m a farming master.

Actually tenacity is probably the best late game stat available.

Shrug, if you’re a squishy caster and late game the other team is getting close enough to fuck up your shit then you probably aren’t gonna win with any item combination.

I dunno, Merc Treads could save your ass

Two words: Ashe arrow. Also reducing stuns and slows by 35% goes a long way to improving your ability to kite. For instance it’s the difference between life or death in an Amumu Ultimate.

In addition, merc threads now effect Silence.
