Yup - a loss. This time our guys would run into their jungle and die, over and over and over. 3 ranked losses today. Sweet! Morde raged hard because when we had the other lane pressed up to their tower I wouldn’t dive with him vs MF and Karthus and land a stun. I personally fed him 3 kills at other times and he didn’t even say thanks! So. Bad.

Vman7 is number 1 rager. I played on his team today and he wanted to duo heimer bottom so I grabbed Janna. He gave up first blood tower diving with auto-attack and later got us both killed trying to go toe to toe with Caitlin/Blitz when its just us 2. Then he complains about the rest of his team.

Hmmm, I think I’m getting Rammus down, just went toe to toe against Morde & Renekton while being laned with a Morgana.

Renekton was total cannonfodder while Morde kept running away after I killed him once using the Flash+Powerball.
Good times, good times.

Cho mid = instant win against mages. Take MR runes, eat all the creeps you want for +hp and harass with q. The trick is to use this to deny them farm rather than get mega farm yourself, because then their carry is useless and you still have half a frozen heart + negatron.

Rammus is great, but best in the jungle if you can. Probably can’t reliably until 30. Since his farm sucks, grab a Heart of Gold and Philospher’s Stone early and you will be set.

Copet, if it makes you feel any better, Coffee was laughing like a hyena as that guy cursed you out on his stream. I don’t know that player but he sounds like a douche.

Tomorrow I am aiming for my 15th straight loss. I think I can pull it off and drive my elo sub-1000!

Yeah, I know I should jungle him but as I’m only level 13 yet and only have one rune (+healt quint) I probably shouldn’t just yet.

I will try doing it maybe in my early twenties, go go jungledillo!

You can try to be like me and have almost exactly 50% win rate and still have a crappy ELO. 87/88 and 1174.

Hehe. Cool. Yeah, he is grand, at your level he should be able to mess with people big-time. Have fun!

There is better players and less trolls at 900 elo so you are fine.

Yeah, you’ll find a few QT3 players and the like say things such as “you are probably at the ELO you deserve” but I get the impression they have never run across a range and are just making some blind assumption. What I don’t think they realize is that right now player skill matched with ELO really sort of forms a double bell curve. So although players obviously get better as you go up in ELO, there is a segment where they get better as you go down in ELO as well. Now this of course is completely counter intuitive and someone will tell me that’s not how ELO works, but I don’t think ELO was ever made to work for a team game with solo queues either.

There’s a few factors at work. Over time – and I mean lots and LOTS of games – you should end up approximately where you belong. That’s just statistics. Yes, you’ll sometimes have idiots, or trolls. So will the other team. Given enough time, it should work out.

On the other hand, there are other factors at play as well. For example, everyone starts at, what, 1200 Elo? Most of them don’t belong there. Some should be rated higher. Most should be rated lower. So in brackets around the 1200 range, you’ll have more skill variance than normal. Some bad players will get carried a little higher by their teammates than they should be, some good players will have a bad game. Over time, these should work out, but there is inherent volatility in that range. I believe Riot has instituted a “newbie island” where new accounts get matched only with each other until they have some games under their belts, but I don’t imagine it’s flawless.

If you don’t believe that consistently good play gets your Elo up, then I would be interested to know your explanation for why some top players have multiple high Elo accounts.

That said, others have said this and it’s true: you should really not be looking to raise your Elo, per se. The point of the system is to give you competitively difficult games – games against comparably skilled opponents. If you are winning and losing games, the system is working as intended. It’s not a measure of your self-worth, you shouldn’t be concerned about “losing” Elo.

This is exactly what I’m not getting though. A lot of games tend to be total blowouts one way or the other.

I’ve decided something.

I’m going to play Soraka in Qt3 games.

Clearly this is the correct decision and will both improve our chances of success and teach me how to play the support role!

Just keep in mind that Soraka is the most boring to play out of all the supports.

So I’ve been going heavy MPen runes (and mpen boots + rod) lately and I notice a pretty big difference in my damage even early game before they have any resist gear. I never really tried this before because back when I started playing, someone (Harkonis) told me it’s pointless getting more MPen when you already have Sorcerors shoes because of a soft cap or something. I never really thought about it much and just mostly focused on building AP since then but it seems like MPen does make a pretty big difference. Any thoughts on how you a balance Penetration vs Power?

That’s funny, I had the same thought, except I left it open as “supports”. I’ve got 3-4 jungles I can play, an AD champ, a few APs, and a bruiser or two. Supports are the obvious next step.

There’s no softcap on Flat MPen, apart from the fact you can’t reduce someone’s MR below 0 with penetration. So if they have 30mr (the starting number for most characters in the game) then going above 30 is silly. Personally I run MPen reds and 1 Quint in order to hit 10MPen, giving me 30 with Sorc shoes.

If they’ve implemented this “Newbie Island” I’ve seen zero evidence of it. I’ve probably played a couple hundred games in the 1100-1300 range and once you get past 1140 its pretty much 1 to 2 experienced players per team and the rest either trolls or newbies.

There are really weird fluctuations in skill level at the sub 1300 levels. The few times I’ve dropped below 1000 I carried my way back out pretty fast because the teams I went against were just that bad. Then when I get to the mid 1000s the teams get fairly even and it takes a good string of games to climb over 1100. In 1100 to 1300 its really just luck of the draw.

Personally I don’t really care too much about my rating anymore, I’ve got a large enough sample size that says I’m probably not gonna get any higher so I mostly work on improving the holes in my game.

I’ve actually had several games lately where the other team told my teammates that they only won because of me. My 2.4 attacks per second Udyr is a beast.

Also not raging at teammates, playing a jungler, and warding a lot all seem to help me win games but that’s because I’m terrible at playing a ranged carry these days.

You’ll play a support in ranked with VMan7 but in Qt3 games you demand a carry and then fail to carry!

isn’t vman your friend copet??
