He still does that all the time.
edit: thought ripplez was someone from this forum heh.
There are 3 lanes and 5 champions. Middle lane is always “solo” unless something crazy is going on. Generally you want a good carry or caster mid. A carry is a character who can put out lots of damage but tends to only come into their own in mid game - they need farming and some good items to reach their potential. Because they are solo, they’ll get more gold from farming (if they do it decently) and go up in levels more quickly. In more advanced play you might see a mid character designed to shut down carries, looking to get some early kills. This makes up for lack of inherent farming abilities (many characters have abilities that faciliate farming). Casters tend to have more burst damage and also need some itemization to get going. Examples of good “mid” characters: Tristana, Sivir, Miss Fortune, Karthus, Vlad. By no means are they the only people who can mid; and not just because I didn’t name all the carries or casters.
In more advanced play you might see other characters mid. These characters aren’t inhernetly good farmers so much, but they might be good at harassing the enemy champ and the aim is getting quick kills (this easily makes up for farming deficiencies, and then some). Malphite is not a classic mid by any stretch but I did it last night and it was an interesting experience (he has an ability with good range that does solid damage, slows the enemym, and leeches that speed and gives it to him for a short time. With enough mana regen you can just keep on casting it more or less indefinitely).
Who goes where outside of mid is complicated. There is no set pattern that works in every game. Generally it’s nice to pair characters in ways that they can work with each other. E.g. Sion has a low cooldown stun. Pairing him with another character who can harass well (say Sivir, or even Malph) can be very effective. The harasser will poke away at an enemy. Sion might stun then once or twice and get a melee hit in or two. When the enemy drops below 50% Sion and his lane mate might commit to a full attack and try to kill the enemy. Sion will stun, both champs will start using abilities, and someone might even tack on an exhaust after the stun runs out (or another stun, or a slow).
Generally you don’t want to put good farming characters in the same lane but sometimes it works out fine.

I’m gonna change mid lane to idrisz lane!!!
MUNDO MID!!!
P.S.
Mid lane can be Chiffy lane if Chiffy is on my team.
Man, I had a bad stretch of Malphite games. I don’t know what it was. Possibly I was too caught up in harassing and not farming enough (if you get early kills it works great. But if you have a crappy lane mate, or the other team is super defensive, then you need ot keep at farming). So last night I resolved to farm better. Even when Karth was getting hits in early I was still farming; he was never more than 5 creeps ahead (he was fairly indiscriminate in using his mine; I think he was torn between trying to precision last hit and then trying to harass, and it affected his farm).
The thing ot remember with Malph’s Q (speaking generally, but it goes back to your point about how some champions need a few levels to come into their own in lane phase): 1 point isn’t a big deal (I will use it just to keep people honest and because full mana is wasted mana regen; and I run high mana regen with him). 2 points is quality harassment (level 3). 3 points is mean harassment that makes people cry (level 5). Karth was ahead of me when I recalled but I had recently hit level 5 (I just wasn’t harassing as much because I was being careful). Once I returned to lane with full health (and boots), I Was able to start sticking it to him better. I also missed a couple of chances to kill him I was a little too conservative alas.
It’s too bad things went south after laning.
You mean in general or for specific characters? Mid/solo lanes are usually reserved for characters that are either ranged carries or have awesome game-changing ultimates. If your team has neither of these types or not enough, then you put whichever character is the most annoying to the enemy carry there.
If you have a jungler then top is usually the second solo lane because if the enemy does dragon they’ll be right there next to bottom lane, which means they have three people in that area so you probably don’t want to have just one.
Other than that you either pair a squishy, feeble character with someone who can protect them, or you try to make the most obnoxious combos you can.
Back to the patch notes for a second, I can’t log into the game because the servers are broken (yay patch day!) but Caitlyn’s ult does spell damage now. This means it isn’t blocked by Pantheon’s shield, but it also doesn’t apply on-hit effects and no one is going to build a Rylai’s on an AD character. Is it just me or does it seem like that balances out the meager damage buff to be a net nerf to a crappy ult?
Also in higher lvl play, both top and mid are solo lanes. Bottom lane tends to be then made up of a support and another player with the last player jungling (which means they don’t lane at all but instead move through the jungle killing neutral creeps for xp).
The reason bot lane has 2 and top is solo and not the other way around is because of the Dragon and you have more of a chance of killing/controlling it with more of your team that end obviously.
Pretty much. A lot of people complained about Cass, but I really think Caitlyn is their worst champ to come out in a long time.
I talk to much - but I am a good gauge which everyone can measure themselves above :)
But you are right the community aspect is what does it for me in this game, I can win a game and feel down and loose a game and be up - dependant on how as a team we worked and then reacted to the opposition.
Wait, what was that Tals? You like the community?
Maybe I gotta go check out this Europe place.

Hah, i think he was referring to the mumble servers.
Be careful. You might have to play with Tals.
Is it only me - when I click next page it takes me to this page, which when I click next page takes me to this page … have we reached the limit…
** Ahhh phew tals has sorted it :) **
Net nerf. I don’t know if her Q is going to be better or worse. Obviously, late game, it’s going to be better (1.3 ad now), but in the first 6 levels it might suffer, I dunno.
Seemed like Riot had gotten better about their uptime and patch process recently, but this latest one seems to be back to the Riot of old.

This shit happens. I’m impressed to see a company like this at least keeping up with their playerbase and tweaking the game based on what they see, as well as staying pretty involved with the community forums.
They seem to have stretched themselves a bit with ambitious plans that are taking a long time to implement, but so far as a company I like them. That sounds silly coming from someone like me who bitches about OP characters regularly, but then I remember that gameplay adjustments seem to come monthly with these guys.
I’m just annoyed as I’m snowed in today.
Patch notes me think that CDR/blue buff is now even more important on Heimer. You want to be spamming 5 rockets in a team fight as often as possible!
Sad about Rammus’ taunt change (to 12 second cooldown from 8) but understand why. Not sure if maybe I should work some CDR Ito my build or just accept I can only taunt once per team fight whereas previously one could sometimes get two off (which is punishing).
The thing that gets me about the Heimer changes, is that they actually reduced the amount of hit points the turrets have per level…huh? The turrets are already just about useless at level 18 as they usually get one shot, or at most 2…not to mention there are a lot of champs who’s attack range is outside the turret range.
/shrug. I’m going to start playing heimer with only 2 points in turrets, and just use them as movable vision wards. Going to put everything into grenades and missles early now. And yah, trying to figure out a build to hit the cooldown cap.
Finally got to play a bit. I like the new champ, though it does seem they nerfed him too much post spotlight video. He has great skillset though, so if they just tweak up his scaling a bit he’ll be very good.
There was a Caitlyn on the enemy team, she still seems like a non-factor post patch.
You need 3 points in turrets to place 2 turrets now.
