I dunno, I still think you have plenty to learn with her.

Also, custom games are always meant for fun whether you win or lose. I hate when people moan about them, I mean seriously. No-one ever has a problem ending it whenever and starting up a new one so just do that instead of moaning all game about it. It’s a damn custom game for gods sake! :)

I suspect - and this is a deep, Holmesian insight into the human condition that backs this suspicion - that they might find trying new characters fun.

I believe your interpretation of their remarks requires you to be on crack.

No that’s not what I implied at all.

Well I’m sure Phydeux appreciated you choosing your best character to lane against him instead of a free one. ;P

Everyone understood this.

Everyone. . . not on crack.

Well Malph isn’t my best character but I see your point. I still hold to the point that he would have had it worse if I had picked up the only other choice, which was Galio. Far worse to lane against in a duo lane and would have shut down bot lane pretty hard ;)

I mean I play tanks, it’s what I do. So asking me to tank in a custom game and then getting given out to when I do it well is a bit unfair :(

I went 1v2 in a top lane against a Teemo/Trynd yesterday. I’m not sure exactly what you’re implying that you are going to teach me.

Last night’s game you told me not to use my E at one point, as if it’s not on a short cooldown and the energy will regenerate by the next harassment maneuver. That lane was also an exception since half the time I was telling Ashe what not to do. As far as I could tell, my harassment was pretty damn good considering Tristana’s range would let her shoot freely on me, but I didn’t allow that due to using bushes and shroud. I was trying to ride a line between killing creeps and keeping one or the other of you at bay from killing squishy newbie Ashe.

And as I recall, I escaped an obvious Udyr gank with a minion dash/shroud and made it back to tower with only a couple hits. People who don’t understand the champ don’t do that. I’ve seen plenty of Akalis fail to understand dashing as escape.

Everyone’s got shit to learn, and everyone makes mistakes. Of course, feel free to pick mine out as long as they’re legitimate. Me missing my E during a burst attack, where you may or may not have moved back in time (you were at your tower range, remember), is insignificant.

They were clearly playing a custom game, if that’s not the time to try out new shit when is?

no, that’s when you playing to have fun like all games… if you want to try out new shit, bot game is much easier.

I guess some people feel like trying out new character is fun, but not everyone, and not all the time.

My point is that if you are playing custom game you should just play whatever you have fun with, your point is that if it’s a custom game you should play new character…which I disagree with, because sometimes playing new character isn’t fun for me.

I’m not talking about teaching you anything mate. I’m talking about you having more to learn. It’s not a deridement of you in any way, shape or form. Most of the champs people think I play well I know I have more to learn with them, it takes ~50 games (well, maybe more maybe less depending) with a champion to truly turn around and say yea, I can play that character to the best of my abilities.

It’s not just knowing how to play the character, it’s knowing their limits. Being entirely confident in every situation on the map and knowing exactly what you can and can’t do at every point in time. That takes a while to learn.

Maybe these people enjoy trying new champions, you crack whore. Easy doesn’t have anything to do with it, I suspect. It’s fun to play with friends. And to try new things. At the same time.

Apparently this is the first step towards having official replays in the game.

I just want to clarify that on last night’s final 5v5 I was not certain on the whole “everyone play a champ you don’t normally play” thing. I know someone threw it out there (possibly even me) but I don’t remember an agreed upon consensus. Given the late hour I think it was easy to get confused. Udyr is a champ I’ve admittedly played a bit of before but not one I’ve played consistently. Still I should’ve gone with someone I’ve played less of like Trynd or Brolaf. When I saw that Lazy was jungling Yi I actually realized that I wished I was trying the same thing (I’ve been meaning to try).

I also blame me not wanting to eschew team balance. I kind of wanted to play Karma again as I’ve only played her like twice so far.

On the other hand I did play Sivir the game before and the only ranged carry I’m worse at is Corki and I think I only ended up with one kill after getting obliterated by Lazy’s Nasus (which is really powerful). So nyeah.

Trying to convince Idrisz to play a champ he doesn’t know outside of an ARAM game is probably impossible though.

Overall last night there was just a lot of imbalance in teams and champion selections which kind of made things less fun that it could’ve been.

Now I understand why people hate inhouse 5v5s. Didn’t help that I had pogo screaming in my ear the whole game. Good lord mumble needs a way to adjust individual users down.

Ahh I see your point.

I think that ties more into having an very experienced overarching sense of relative power between champions. Someone with thousands of games played has formed an innate ability to understand when they have the upper hand, and when they can capitalize on it. That’s certainly something I don’t have unless I play with someone more intimately, and you’re right that at this point Akali is <50 games played champ for me.

That’s why Chiffy kills people and gets out even with shreds of life left. His experience and skill computate on-the-fly when someone is vulnerable to attack and must retreat during any heads up situation. That’s very powerful information to know.

Yea I just downloaded it for my US client install. At least if that breaks I can still go and play EU :)

that’s because you insist on been on the same team as chiffy in those in house 5vs5 and chiffy almost never wins…

Hey that’s not fair, I yelled at your Yi before you told me that it was your first time. I was pretty quiet that game.

I didn’t mind that, actually. Let him play his best character. I won’t improve by people babying me. That game was the culmination of screwing up games for the better part of the night and causing my team to lose. When people said they didn’t really mind, I stopped being that concerned about things. It’s frustrating to play with you skillmonsters sometimes, but it’s way better than playing with people on the other side of the spectrum.

Later that night, me and chequers started playing 5v5 games. I started getting psychic with my crystal arrow, landing these insane hits one after the other. Playing with you guys is paying off.

That’s why Vent > Mumble!

You don’t actually learn anything playing against the current bots.

I guess some people feel like trying out new character is fun, but not everyone, and not all the time.

My point is that if you are playing custom game you should just play whatever you have fun with, your point is that if it’s a custom game you should play new character…which I disagree with, because sometimes playing new character isn’t fun for me.

No my point is that even when everyone says, “hey lets do a custom game where we screw around with guys we’re trying to learn” someone always picks someone they already know and plays with a bit too much effort. But look man, I get it, some people have fun roflstomping their friends.

I think if the better players showed some restraint in practice matches, it would be more fun for everyone. We do this in RL sports. When I play shinny (practice) hockey and there are some beginners on the other team, the better players usually hold back a little bit. For example, instead of taking the puck away from the noob right away, let him make a move or two first, then take the puck away. That kind of attitude should work in LoL too.

P.S. I haven’t played with you guys yet since I mostly play with friends from my gaming guild (and I don’t have Mumble yet) but I can relate to the bickering that inevitably follows practice matches.
