Yeah I shouldn’t talk shit. I friended someone who played a mean Renekton, we duo’d as Renekton/Xin and was one of the first times where we actually zoned and denied a ranged/melee duo (Lux/Trynd, actually).

Protip for people that play carries: we expect you to do damage. Teams have room for maybe 2 carries (1 AD, 1 AP), and everyone else’s job is to protect you. If you don’t like the hassle of having to farm and do damage, pick a support champ. It’s really unfair to the rest of us to pick the AD carry slot, insta-lock, then tell us that you don’t want the “responsibility” to fight. Your pick says you do.

CLGaming.net has a nice index of live streams of top players in both US and EU. I recommend Treeeskimo, Wickd and Guardsman Bob if you want to watch educational streams.

Grackis, Clever Advisor and whoever is streaming on Solo Mid are good picks if you want to watch people trolololol.

The nostalgic part of me hopes so. Never in my LoL career have I caused more people to rage than when I played Ryze.

I can’t remember the name but there used to be some guy called KoolAidGragas playing, you guessed right, Gragas, and whenever he used the drink skill on Gragas he would also drink in real life, was absolutely brilliant cause 10 minutes in the guy was pretty much smashed.

Here it is:

and the first game that got me rofling:

Hey espresso, you sound like you are a nice guy and I know you take this game very seriously. Some of us are playing for fun. If this is somehow ruining your fun then just go take your dog for a walk. Also, I have a protip for you too. Lighten up. It’s a game.

Can’t you just play bot games if you’re not interested in screwing over your team mates?

Got a practice game (that is all, unfortunately) with Kennen last night and he seems really superfun. Looking forward to trying some more! Perhaps he is the solution to my funk over AD DPS characters (i.e. he isn’t one).

Part of playing the game is being a good team member. Part of being a good team member is contributing to a good team composition.

Have been enjoying playing as Annie lately. Being a super squishy character is a totally different experience to the tanks I’ve usually been playing. I think I enjoy Ryze more but will stop playing him until he’s remade. I might get KogMaw too – he’s basically an AD annie right?

I got this same exact response yesterday after going 10/5/14 144CS with Akali. Their Triforce/Gunblade Akali went 13/9/6, with no defenses, and Ionian boots. I tried to explain to them how the setup wasn’t ideal, that Akali is simply not an auto-attack champ and that I only got Guinsoo in order to farm, push towers, and increase attack speed for quicker R>Q>auto strikes in the heat of a battle; I also pointed out that cooldown reduction is a somewhat wasted stat on someone with 1) such low cooldowns in the first place and 2) guerrilla warfare playstyle (unlike, say, Udyr who is a brawler and whose passive synergizes very well with CDR on 5s skills). They told me to “lighten up, it’s just a game,” as if my giving suggestions on a champ wasn’t in the spirit of the game. I wasn’t even talking in my usual tone, either.

I also told their Galio who facechecked Baron bush about 30 seconds after we had finished Baron and got into position to gank them because we figured they would be coming to check Baron. He told me the same thing after I said that he shouldn’t have facechecked Baron bushes so late during that period where we were all MIA and probably finished doing Baron, getting ready to make a final push.

Some people just wish to stay within that realm of mediocrity, charging into every fight and not backing out. In that same game, our Sion (tank) yelled at me for not following him into the river bush where I had put a ward and 4 of the enemy were gathering. He rushed in and died expecting me as backup. I had ample range to R in there (same game, I was Akali) and kill perhaps Pantheon, but I would almost assuredly had died to Vlad, Galio, and Jax. I had to tell him that an assassin is not a rough’n’tumble player (my 5 deaths were the least in the whole game, and yet I have 14 assists, that’s the sign that I’m getting pretty damn good at choosing the right fights), and that trading us 2 for 1 of them is not ideal.

So let me defend Jim a little here and say that some people just do not get it. That’s fine, but some of those people that don’t get it voluntarily choose not to get it. That’s not fine. Fuck them.

Ya I’ve watched some of the CLG streams on LiveGamer, but i hadn’t gone to their site directly. I’ve got ~700 games under my belt, so I’m mostly looking for upper ELO play and analysis more than raw educational.

Thanks!

I don’t read Jelly’s statement as a call to incompetence. “It’s a game” doesn’t mean “don’t take it seriously”. It means there are different ways to play.

“It’s a game” for me means that you can try unorthodox stuff and don’t have to play 1:1 copies of matches you watched and learned in scores of hours watching streams, and bitching and quitting the game when it doesn’t play out exactly like ideal matches should. I take a match with someone who plays poorly because he tries out a new champ or a new tactic over a Jim who goes nuts and sabotages the game because the laning phase is not going by the book as it should be in his well researched, inflexible opinion.

A team mate can play poorly and still be a good team mate because it’s fun to play with him. On the other side a player can have extensive knowledge and skill in the game and with champions and still be a bad team mate because he kills all the fun with his obsession and misbehaviour.

Well, it seems every time this argument pops up the issue is with the mentality “playing for fun” vs “playing to win” vs “playing to win = fun”.

Different people have different perspectives; I play for fun, regardless of winning or losing, but I can see how more competitive players might get pissed with that mindset though it seems although I can see and understand their point of view they (the majority at least) can’t see mine.

Oh and “ragers”; I fucking hate them. People who can’t accept others’ different play style or even capabilities (we ARE unique snowflakes, we can’t all play well, it’s impossible because different players = different skills + tons of variables) and then rage in the middle of a game, throw hissy fits in mumble/vent and whisper to other team members bitching about said players. Childish.

That’s why I only responded to part of his statement.

What are the coming Spirit Visage nerfs (beyond CDR, I assume)?

<redacted by jesus>

Last time there was a patch preview, the patch itself came pretty quickly, like 10 days or so afterward.

Oh… WHAT are the nerfs? I guess the devs think that there are too many survivability items with CDR on them, like Glacial Shroud (builds into Frozen Heart) or Spirit Visage. This turned some tanks into nigh-invulnerable damage monsters. I know a Cho with 40% CDR is fucking brutal

Jim, you do realize that it’s perfectly ok to have more than 1 AD carry on a team? New players also usually take a ranged carry because they are the simplest to play, you right click on someone and do some damage. You’re not playing high Elo ranked games for fame and fortune here. We’ve lost plenty of games with “perfect” team comp and won plenty with silly stuff like no AD carry or nothing BUT AD carries. If you cannot handle playing a game with more than a single ranged carry perhaps you should refrain from playing with any new players?

Please god, as an admin of the EU mumble server, can everyone understand these 2 points? We don’t play ranked and therefore people should realize that players come to our server purely to have fun. The fact that there are highly skilled players on the server doesn’t change this fact.

It’s gotten to the stage, where at people who play the game for purely fun are being abused for being “bad”, and I will simply have to ban anyone who carries this point of view from the server. Even if it means the only person left is Jelly, seen as he’s one of the few people who’ve been there since there server started up last year and also one of the few people who still understand how to simply have fun in their games. Not everything has to be a competition.

-edit- As much as it physically pains me to say it, Therlun pretty much says all this alot better (except for his singling out of people, I love Jim). The welcome message to our server is “have fun” and not “be the best that you can be” for a damn good reason.

Yea, grow up.

Don’t consider for a second that I might have spent the time writing that post because it’s actually an issue, that as an admin I’m having a problem with or anything.
