It’s up to you to make the champions interesting… Like attackspeed Annie :)
Bugger it - two practice games as Kennen tonight and not enough time to try a ‘real’ game. Grrr. I want to be somewhat competent before I get into a real game, but man, practice games blow.
Anyone here a Kennen player? Happy to hear tips or special advice. Build order seems pretty standard… hmmm.

Generally, the most common builds tend to rush either rylais first, or zhonya’s hourglass first. You will eventually want both items, the rylais helps with general survivability/roaming/ganking, while you want to rush the hourglass if you think team fights will occur earlier than usual. His ultimate still works while you are invulnerable under the hourglass’ active.
For skills, the specific starting order is preference/situational depending on your lane, but once you get one point in each you always want to prioritize your W (and ult, of course). If you’ve just arrived in your lane at level 1 and haven’t accounted for everyone on the enemy team in their respective lanes yet, you can start with E as an excellent level 1 escape.
The reason you prioritize W is for the consistent, reliable pressure on the opposing laner while you last hit with auto attacks. Against a lot of opponents, Kennen can free farm in relative safety.
Is it worth spending IP on the ‘cheaper’ characters to build up your stable, or is it worth saving for the more expensive ones? Or perhaps a better question is: Are the more expensive characters hands-down better than the cheaper ones? I joined up this cycle so have only played with the currently free characters + Tristana. I really like Sion and Udyr and I think I favor a play style of tough melee characters that can still put out some damage. I think Alistar looks cool and can afford him now, and Amumu as well. Warwick also looks appealing but costs more than Alistar and Amumu combined.

There is no direct correlation between IP cost and quality of heroes (if there ever would have been that would not be the case any more either, because prices stay the same but piratically every champion got several buffs and/or nerfs over many patches).
Ashe for instance is in the cheapest tier yet a very versatile and strong carry.
In the long run I would advice only buying champions you played in a free week and liked. Just paying fro them with IP from won games is quite time intensive and many champions look interesting on paper but play quite different to what you would expect.
Just waiting a week or two will provide ~20 free champions to try out. More than enough to play a few games with the ones looking interesting to you over that time period. (Unless you are obsessively playing the game all day :D)

He’s spent 6 hours playing DoW2 Retribution last week.
Also he got a new job, so maybe that’s messing with his hours?
Piratical buffs are always nice, yaaar! :P

I’m gonna go with kidnapped by terrorist!!!
If you like the game enough to give Riot 20 dollars the retail box is a good way to go. It will unlock 20 characters for you and it also gives you about 10 dollars worth of RP to spend at the store, which could get you 2 or 3 more characters depending on who you pick. It’s a pretty good deal. They also sell that same thing through the in-game store (I think it’s called the Digital Collector’s Edition on the bundles tab) but I think the cost in Riot Points might be a little more than 20 dollars so I got it through Amazon.
Anyway, even if you’re on the fence it’s worth looking at the list of champions that are in the two bundles in the in-game store. That way if you do decide to buy a bundle you won’t feel like you “wasted” IP by unlocking one of those characters now. I sort of did that myself. Twisted Fate was free the week I started playing and I liked him a lot so I used all of the points from that week to unlock him. Shortly after I ended up buying both bundles and he was included in one of them. Not really a big deal, but something to consider.

I suggest buying a bunch of the cheapo characters, to round out your stable. This won’t matter too much early on, but later I’ve found it super handy to be able to pick any of the basic types to help with team composition. (Also Sivir is cheap, and super good)

I’ve been playing for over a year now and I still don’t own 32 champions.
When I first started I mostly played whoever was free for about a month, then I bought a champ (Cho’Gath) and played him until I realized I was a tank and couldn’t carry my team to victory no matter how good I played (things were different back then) so I bought Veigar, quickly realized he wasn’t right for me and bought Ryze who was super OP. I played Ryze almost exclusively for 40+ games and then bought Jax and did the same until he got nerfed down. At this point I think I had 300+ games and 2/3 of them might’ve been playing the same 3 champs. I was level 30, had 2 decent generic rune pages and decided to start buying and learning new champs.
Now I own like 30 some odd champs and can probably competently play half or more of them. I can probably only play like 5 or 6 of them really well, but since that’s spread across a variety of champion roles I’m always gonna have 1/2 champs I feel comfortable playing that will fit any role.
I guess my main point is, its okay early on to buy one guy and learn him, because part of the game is learning the items and the other champs and what they can/can’t do. If you’re constantly learning a new skill set each game then it can become cumbersome.
There’s no wrong way to go about it, except for people who get to level 30 and refuse to play more than 1 champ. At some point you have to branch out.

The getting obsessed with a new character and then playing and studying them a lot is half the fun for me - do what you enjoy. But yeah, I regret not picking up those bundles and it probably isn’t worth it now (since I have bought a few heroes).

Actually, out of all the tanks, I put Cho’ at #1 or #2 for his ability to change a game in your favor. A tanky AP Sion is also up there.
Hell I did it the other day with a bunch of players on my team who were pretty weak at their champs. I got focused because I went 12/1/8, and pretty much led the charge for every kill in the game.
I can’t do the same thing with Akali or Xin.
I love when playing a normal game, and you look at your team and it’s just a terrible make up and you’re thinking of dodging and someone on the other team ends up doing you the favor. Thank you Summoner 3 whoever you are!

woo malzahar free week, it’s time to own in malzahar vs malzahar.
nothing says pwnage when you own someone with the same champion.
I am destined to lose, just played a match where my top and bot lane had 15 deaths by minute 10 :(

I seem to be stuck with horrible teams today. Each time I’ve lost was because the team didn’t push, or didn’t come together for team fights. I just had a game where my team did not engage the one champion who was attacking me right next to them and he was the only one there.
I tried Fiddlesticks and the robot guy and liked them. It feels good to turn the tables on everyone with his crowstorm ult.
Yeah, when you solo queue going on bad streaks like that is not uncommon.

Cho when I started and Cho today aren’t the same at all.

I thought the only thing to happen to Cho in the history of this game was actually nerfs?
