I can’t wait to play 5v5 with you guys this weekend. I feel like i missed so much while working this week.

Old Jax is who I turned too after Ryze got nerfed. He is the only champion I’ve ever gotten a Penta Kill with.

Old Ryze was so powerful that people would accuse me of having no skill every match as I waltzed my way to 20 kills. Xin Zhao on release day is probably the only champ who has come close to that level of cheese.

Ryze got a few buffs last year that made him playable again, however nowhere near a top pick like he used to be. The remake/tweak of him was something that’s been in the works for months as an attempt to both make him more relevant and possibly introduce a new play style for casters.

So is this game having some big resurgence or what? I had somehow managed to not hear of it before I looked it up as a result of all the game diaries on the front page, and I was surprised to see that it’s from 2009. Worth playing though? What do I need to know to get started?

Ah Jax… I only ever got pentakills with one champion and I don’t even have him unlocked in my EU account:

Definitely worth trying, especially so at the cheap cheap price of free.

Maybe just lookup a general guide and then jump into a match. You’ll do fine because everyone else will be as horrible as you. After you get the basics down if you want look up a guide for the character you like using, maybe match 3 or 4.

You get gold for last hitting a creep, you get XP from being in the vicinity of a creep that dies. The last thing you want to do is die because it gives the enemy large amounts of cash and takes you out of the game, leaving you short the cash and xp you’d have as well as giving them the opportunity to push. Enemy towers will attack you if attack a champion in their vicinity, towers will normally target the first creep or champion to get in range. They do large amounts of damage so run when there is 1 creep left, or 2 if you want to be safe.

There, you now know more than half the players I see.

I feel it did have a big upswing in popularity several months back. I know I personally didn’t really get back into it until then, even though I was in the beta and started this thread.

Not sure about the more recent interest, maybe it being on the front page of the forums for so long finally got Tom and crew to check it out.

/ignore playername Most important to save sanity.

  1. Many of the newbie games will be filled with smurfs.
  2. The tutorial is surprisingly useful.
  3. leaguecraft.com for reference materials later on
  4. expect do die, play each champ 5 times before you kinda figure it out.

smartcasts are very useful interface shortcut

Last hitting is important. It won’t really matter till later anyway because all your noob partners will be autoattacking and pushing lanes. Keeping a third eye on the lanes. Realize that it takes very little time for people to run from one lane to gank another.

When facing an opponent:

You want to know their cooldown times, and which type of crowd control they have (slows or stuns).

Surviving is important. It’s easier to killsteal off your dead teammates who did all the dps’ing.

Sivir holds this honor for me.

Are xp and gold just for the duration of the match, or is there some metagame that they’re used for?

Duration of the match.

You do earn IP and Summoner XP upon finishing a match though that you use to buy runes and level up. There’s a skill tree page of passives that you can remaster at will but the amount of points you have to spend is limited by summoner level. Also you have a rune page where you buy runes with IP. So there is a metagame as well.

blegh

I have a few on Amumu :)

I was going to get one on teemo recently and lazy stole it from me.

I somehow managed to get one on dps malphite lololo. No idea how many i’ve actually had tho. :(

I remember that game! :)

Deserved.

Having finally played with you while you play him you are quite good with him and I don’t even understand how you are doing some of the stuff you do with him. It also sounds like you are playing Street Fighter when you play him, that poor keyboard.

I am sorry you did not do your deeps fast enough to kill the entire enemy team after I started ulting them all as Morgana.

I’ve never had a Pentakill I don’t think. Triple kill was probably my largest, but my focus in teamfights has never been to run after some low health person just to kill them. I try to burst people down enough for someone else’s autoattacks to finish them off, since I rarely play autoattack champs other than Xin Zhao, and even he is more tactical than just auto attacking targets.
