Shit, that’s something I’d love to try, is there an online version of it or are you just joking? Kinda tired and my sarcasm meter is off.
They have been playing it all the time on mumble.
I am starting to try and chose characters to match what the other four pick (with the occasional exception) and I’ve had a couple of better games because of it. I picked Trist last night when we had 2 tanks, an off tank and a magic burst character. I went 12 kills before we lost the game (had an udyr who liked to wander off and die) but with the buffness of the rest of the team I was able to sit in the back and lay some deeps down and feel safe. It worked really quite well.
Next game was similar, but we had a Tryndamere and tanks and so I took Kennen. This worked out well and I think we won this one.
My worst games as Trist have been those where I am one of many carries. If the rest of the team are bursty they tend to faceroll the keyboard then back off, while Trist barely gets a couple of shots of before having to run. Team comp is all important, I guess!
Oh, anyone ever build survivability into Trist, Kennen, Corki etc? Warmogs is nice for that, but the cost can be a bit high and really delay your damage items.

Also, Therlun, why aren’t you on the EU servers lately, did anything happen that caused you to play on US?
@Calistas: I’m far from being a pro or whatever but i’ve played LoL for some time now and considering ever since you started playing you have showed a great love for Trist, I really feel like saying… why?
Sure, Trist is a great character, and some tricks aside (jump, push them back towards your team or tower, etc) she’s just an “auto-attack” champ; I play her occasionally and I think she actually dumbs down the player (as in forcing you to play the autoattack game instead of having skill shots and timing your reaction times), her skills don’t contribute much in team fights and as for pushing, well, any nicely farmed champion can push like a pro.
So, what I’m trying to say/ask is: do you really like Trist or are you simple uncomfortable playing other champs? It seems you like ranged carries and you have a good grasp of what items to get and what not to do so why not try other ranged champs? You might be surprised and find out you perform really well with a Miss Fortune or a Leblanc, whatever, why not branch out and try new champs? :)

Both AD and AP focused champs have defensive items that also boost offense or offensive related abilities (like mana regen).
Abyssal Scepter is one of my favorites, +57MR and +70 AP and reduces MR of enemies by 20 (essentially giving 20 magic penetration to you and allies). That’s pretty fucking awesome for any caster.
Hexdrinker is an AD equivalent, in a way, with +30MR and +35AD, with a nifty little proc effect that can save your life from a 300+ damage spell.
Banshee’s Veil is great for anyone, and I mean ANYONE. If you are a hard carry that’s going to get focused by a stun or silence-heavy team, BV will save your life, and it has +50MR with +375 HP/mana to boot.
And finally, Guardian Angel. I’ve taken that on plenty of carries. Hell I take it more when I play Akali than I do when I play Cho’gath.

I am not sure I know the answer! In my time I have played (probably in order)…
- Trist (I’m ok with her)
- Mordekaiser (I think I’m quite good with him, but he doesn’t bring much to a team fight)
- MF (I could never stay alive with her, perhaps I should try again since I haven’t played her in ages. Also, I wasn’t sure what she brings to a team fight that, say, Trist etc doesn’t. AOE deeps I guess).
- Gangplank (hate him. Hit Q a lot, bleah).
- Rammus (I think I’m quite a capable jungler with him)
- Corki (I really like Corki, but again, I’m not sure I’m much good with him for reasons I wrote up on the blog)
- Kennen (new to him, but like him a lot. His burstyness surprises people and he is speedy enough to live more than he should).
So trying MF instead of Trist i something I’d be more than happy with. What’s the suggested build? Speedy boots + damage/dps items and perhaps veil late game? Fairly standard stuff I guess?
Good points. I’ve never taken hexdrinker, probably should. BV is something I do pick up fairly often, or even just the negatron cloak (it can really nullify general magical poking). I’ll keep this list in mind more in future :)
Oh, and I should pick up Abyssal more often!

I should mention Zhonya’s Hourglass as well, since it’s not listed as an item that gets built from a chain vest, and yet it’s a great caster defensive item, especially for AoE casters who wish to stay alive after they’ve blown their load in the middle of a teamfight.
I played against a teemo last night that built a Warmog after he finished his core build, i have to say a teemo with 3500 HP isnt nice at all.

No offense intended to anyone here, but I still think Warmogs is a straight up noob trap on all but a select few heroes and even then it tends to be more for gimmick builds involving Atma’s impaler. If you’re a squishy carry and the other team is hitting you enough times for Warmogs to matter then your team has probably already lost the fight or you probably positioned yourself poorly and didn’t kite properly.
Banshee’s veil on the other hand is a near essential defensive item on everyone, including carries. If you’re a ranged ap or ad champ and you’re building too many more defensive items than this then often times its a sign of a larger problem, either with your team (comp or play) or your individual play.
Try to analyze how you’re dying beyond what type of damage. Did you die because you were alone? Did you die before the tank? Etc. etc.
P.S. When I have time tonight I’m gonna write up some thoughts on new Ryze.

Maokai is pretty fun, i’ve already tried tanky and ap nuker. Gonna try AD pretty soon, doubt it will work out though.
375 HP + 50 MR + 1 negative spell blocked every 30 seconds
vs.
1370 HP + 45 HP regen/5 seconds
I’m looking at these items, with similar costs, and I agree with you that they do different things.
Just went 14/2/18 in a 45 minute game as Miss F. I think I’m beginning to love her all over again! Went Manamune, swiftness boots, BT, then Glacial Shroud (2 x phys dps on their team, and I wanted cooldown anyway) and was working on my second BT when the game ended (I had 5000 to spend but no chance to spend it).
With that little bit of cool down I was spamming out my abilities and with Manamune, mana was never a concern. It all went rather well! I like getting BT before IE as it is handy to have a way to regen health in a fight. Picking up useful-but-different defensive items along the way is a great idea… armor (and mana and CDR) from the Shroud, I would have got hexdrinker had I thought of it and enjoyed a MR boost (and damage and special) and still contributed to my damage output.
Chosing based on my team definitely wins. It means playing what I want to play less, but it does result in more wins :)
Wow, broke my losing streak with another couple of wins. Simply fitting my choice to the team seems to do it. Of course, sometimes I am the only one trying to do that, but it does make a difference.
I am curious what MF brings to the metagame that trist doesn’t? It must be a lot as I see she is preferred by a fair margin in elementz’s list. I figure mobility (helped lanes gank last night by strutting up and down at speed) , the reduced heal, the slow and the AOE, which can easily synergize with others compared to trist’s escape move and…
Must play more MF. Am even tempted to go 3 arpen quints on top of my marks! Madness!
