The only thing Mejais and Teemo, is its easy to screw up Teemo and die alot. Not sure I’d recommend it for Noobs.
I agree on Doran’s blade being a bad buy though, never been impressed with it compared to Doran’s Shield, or Doran’s Ring.
Wow, I actually have to agree entirely with something idrisz says!
Teemo can do Mejai’s if you want because between mushrooms and lingering poison you will constantly be getting assists and kill steals. Even Antibunny can stay above 10 stacks on Teemo.

doran’s blade adds a pitiful 3% lifesteal, which mean you get 1.5 life back every attack you make with teemo since teemo’s base attack is around 50… assuming you attack every second(not mentioning you are pushing the lane way too hard if you are auto attacking), with teemo’s base like .8 AS?, you gain 1.2 life average a second…
Doran’s shield flat out add 10hp per 5, that’s 2 hp a second without attacking! Regrowth Pendant is 15hp/5 that’s 3 hp a second not mention with regrowth pendant you can buy a pot that give you 200 hp back in 20 seconds(pot and ignite will win you early 1vs1 fights, there is almost no mistake about it).

Starting with doran’s blade OR vamp sceptre is just a bad idea, I think. It relies on the fact that you are going to have to auto attack to get your life back, which pushes your lane and makes you vulnerable. People need to realize that a doran’s shield isn’t just a tank starting item. It is good for everyone.

Stay back, dodge his attacks as much as possible (Kog is slow, you are not) and wait for him to burn up his mana. If you have a jungler get them to gank Kog whenever he is past the middle of the lane, he’s slow and has no built in escape so have your teammates punish him for over extending.
Vamp scepter Kog is only effective if you let him be.
He said the jungler was hopeless - too bad.
I am careful about not pushing y lane, but 4 out of 5 times these days I am meeting people who just kill (while last hitting) as fast as possible. Early levels it is tough to last hit vs tower so I am left trying to kill as fast as possible back. That is when I wonder if vamp s would be good as an early start on BT.
I am pretty certain I am not facing pays damage, I could see regrowth being an interesting choice for carries over shield. Thoughts?
One of my favourite starts these days is Cloth Armor and 5 health potions on pretty much any melee champion, because it always builds into something useful. Another nice (and super aggresive) start is Boots, 2 Health Pots, 1 Mana Pot. I’m sure you could do the same with a Null-Magic Mantle if you knew you were up against a Caster but I tend to buy one at the first back instead, as there are very few casters that are scary before lvl 6.
I’m actually really glad of the change to Dorans items. For once there’s actually a choice in starting items and it’s made the game far more fun and interesting.

I like to call it Sir Digby’s Amazing Starting Items in Almost all Champions.
Also, great game tonight with the lads on EU, we managed to turn our 4+1 random no tank team which at the start was getting knocked around into a mighty force of doom. Also, loved my mushrooms, ahah.

Thanks for the thoughts. BTW, I don’t get doran’s blade for the lifesteal, I get it for the 9 AD and 100 health, which are the two things I want for early game with teemo. The lifesteal, as has been mentioned, is worthless if you are last hitting.
I suppose that I could start with long sword and a red pot, and build the long sword into bloodrazor and get basically the same effect as a doran’s blade, I’d just have 100 less max health and have to play a little safer.
Stop trolling the new guys, McKnight!
Surprisingly I’m not. Previously these starts would have just been silly but since the change to Dorans items stopping you from buying a potion these different starts actually become quite viable.
I still don’t like a Null-Magic start but hell, try it out. That’s how I figured out the Cloth armor start, which has simply turned out amazingly. You can play super aggressive with 5 pots to back you up, the armor protects you against both harassment and creeps and also builds into something useful for practically every champion.
Maybe if you actually played the game recently you’d learn these things aswell ;)

I’m a fan of boots+pots, but only on melee champs.
Uh, position in queue: 9500. Huuuwhat.
So if you are a ranged carry like Miss Fortune or bursty type like Kennen and you are likely to face magic in mid, shield seems kind of a waste, right? I could see regrowth and pot being quite powerful compared to the useless armor buff on the shield, lesser regen and lesser health (once you have drunk potion).
You know what else builds into something useful for practically every champion? Either one of the Pendants, and then you don’t burn 175 gold on health potions! I’m only half serious there, but for serious now: mana potions? Terrible! You spend 50 gold to get one more use of an ability.
Also, maybe I would play the game more if I ever saw anyone online anymore and logging in didn’t have a good chance of putting you in a queue.
Really? Because Philostone is a stupid item and really shouldn’t be built if you can avoid it.
And also yes, mana potions. Because alot of champions have a base mana pool of about 200. That’s spending 40g, about 1 and a half creeps kills for half your mana bar back. That’s pretty damn good (in the early game only obviously). The health potion money isn’t “burned” btw, it’s put to damn good use.
And well done pointing out queues… Wow. I mean the EU has only had to put up with that for the past week and a half :)

philosopher stone isn’t for all champion, I just build it on my ap teemo since I don’t build any other mana regen or hp regen items.
it pay for itself by the time I sell it. mana potion on one hand is useless.
You just said Philostone isn’t for every champion, and for once I agree with you. But then why say mana potions are useless in the same sentence?
You don’t play low mana pool champions and you don’t know the usefulness of say Alistar refilling his mana bar almost completely between ganks. Or simply getting to stay in lane a minute longer, or grabbing a second kill you wouldn’t have been able to get. Mana potions aren’t for every champion, obviously. But people seriously underestimate the value of consumables in this game.
Think about this, if a mana potion helps you get one more CS then it’s basically paid for itself. If it lets you get another kill then it’s a huge return on investment. Same thing can be said of health potions, but the benefit of them is more obvious the a wider array of champions which is why more people use them.

because I run 9/0/21 exclusively and I have mana regen rune in all my rune pages except the 0 mana tank page. I have 11mp5 base with any hero just with my rune page, that’s not adding from mastery.
mana potion is worthless for the cost, just buy another hp potion if you can.
And I presume that is scaling mana regen yes, like every sane person uses? The ones that also got nerfed? Is that .0067% going to really help you in the early levels? I mean seriously. You run a Philostone on Teemo for, and I quote, Mana Regen. And he has a reasonable mana pool compared to some other champs.
You also lose a significant amount by not running a lot of champions with defensive masteries.
