You guys aren’t understanding what a tank is. Morde, for instance, can do nothing to stop me from running up and hitting your carry. Cho can silence, pop-up, and devour if you get too close. Blitz can pop-up or pull back. Shen and rammus have taunts. Alistair can headbutt away. People like Mundo and Morde can’t do shit. They are just DPS that is very hard to kill.

mundo can slow, but morde can’t do shit.

Just get a Rylai’s! Instant tank!

slowly, rylai + his aoe = aoe slow all da time!!!

That’s a good point. Where can I go to learn more about playing a tank in a team fight? I mean, I get these straightforward concepts, but where can I watch some high level players actually do it, and have someone commentate on what’s happening at the same time?

bycan is playing a really good blitzcrank in a few recent games.

I’ve always said they are “soaks”; they soak up damage with huge HP pools or regen or shield gimmicks and in reverse they can’t dish out as much damage as a full dps, they are LoL’s offtanks.

Also, epic 70 minute (?) game last night, was a truly cliffhanger the entire game and we managed to win with a backdooring MUNDO, because MUNDO BACKDOORS WHEN HE PLEASES!

If Mundo had a taunt, he’d be one of the best characters in the game. As someone who played a lot of Mundo, the worst problem is watching their team burn down your carry and not being able to do a damn thing about it. There is such a huge difference in the amount of control you have with Mundo, vs an Ammumu or any other hard CC tank. Not being able to interrupt other Ults, etc.

Mundo is awesome, probably my favorite character in the game. The problem with him is, he’s kind of a jack of all trades master of none. He’s got a lot of good things, but no one great thing. His ult is great if your in a 1 v 1 or 1 v 2 situation, but he’s really susceptible to burst. Any kind of focus fire (which your always going to play against in any kind of decent team) and he’s very easily dealt with.

There are just so many situations where Mundo not having a hard CC is a real detriment. On paper Mundo looks like the perfect character, great lane phase, the skill shot is a great harass, as well as the ability to stay in the lane forever post level 6. A great mid game, very hard to kill in small team fights and skirmishes. But end game given how much burst is a part of LoL he just loses a little punch.

Everything about Mundo is ‘over time’. Over time type characters typically don’t do well in PvP, because in every single PvP game I’ve ever played, burst is always king. Mundo doesn’t have a way to negate that burst, whereas some of the other champs do. Ammumu can stop burst dead in it’s tracks, and it makes a huge difference.

yeah but if you play with people here, where they are like “DON’T FOCUS DA MUNDO”, then you basically just run around and killing their squishies…

If you play with people here, you will find that they are all shit, unlike me, I am awesome.

Feedwick

Has Bunny ganked mid yet?

If they do enough DPS that they can’t be ignored and you have enough CC from your support and carries, they can do an adequate job as tanks.

I’m going to disagree with the folks saying my build requires more damage. As I am playing, my goal is not to damage, my goal is to absorb it, be it the focus fire of the enemy team - absorb the initial hits, slow anyone charging at my squishies.

Leading the entire enemy team on merry ‘Let’s separate you into a nice string my team can gank’ chases across the entire map, surviving every fight to prevent the ‘We just wiped you, now we win pushes’, and towerdiving and backdooring at will are just bonuses.

I’m fairly defensive on my talents, and typically run with Ghost and Heal (Heal as my oh shit I got Ignited button, since Cleanse no longer removes it)

I agree that Mundo is not perfect. Others may be better with other characters, but I’ve had the most success with Mundo.

If you don’t build more damage any decent team will ignore you and kill your carries. Then you won’t have much damage to absorb until the rest of your team is dead. Morde and Mundo can go almost pure tanky for a while but late game you’re going to need at least a bit more damage and/or magic pen.

Well, note that I have one item slot left after selling the Doran’s late game, so some damage is possible.

Or Randuin’s Omen if I keep going omg tankity tank tank.

However, I’ve found, even in ranked games, that I’m not ignored with this build.

Man, reading the last few pages of this thread, I thought I was going to be in serious trouble for my first game out. Turns out I took the top by myself, Irelia is a serious ass-kicker.

Low-level games are a totally different ballpark from what gets talked about here :-) Playing with people your own levels is more fun (because you might win), but it’s so much more educational playing with these guys on Mumble. You start seeing higher layers of gameplay going on (zone control, creep manamgement) around you, and the enemy team will mercilessly punish poor gameplay by yourself.

Copet is 100% correct here. Tanks need some kind of hard CC or need some kind of serious damage or will simply be ignored in teamfights.

after about 4 days of teemo-fever, I decided to go back to SRS BSN face and picked up malzahar again.
