You know when people tell a long, boring story about a great game where they owned? Well here is mine.

I was playing solo queue (unranked) because I wanted to test somethin out with Alistar against real players. In the second team my team mates decided to take Shen, Nasus and Gragas… so I switched to Kassadin with Teemo being the last one. The team didn’t look very promising.

The Gragas cried for mid… and after giving the enemy Urgot first blood cried about lag and disconnected. Being one man short we scrambled to save our lanes. Doing three or four successful ganks as a whole team over the next ten minutes we still lost all outer towers.
Gragas then reconnected and started a surrender vote. It failed. Gragas then disconnected again only to do the exact same thing 5 minutes later. Since we still refused to surrender (we were holding ourselves in kills) he started feeding… Despite this we managed to semi-win the next three team fights, with a good Shen and a cowardly me ripping apart the enemy team. Shen and Nasus would soak up damage most notably Fiddlestick’s ult, only for me to come in a few seconds later bursting everyone down.

Gragas lost his patience and disconnected for good. We proceeded to slowly drive the enemy team back, win another team fight, destroyed an inhibitor only to be almost wiped when we tried to run away. I was the only one who survived, but many shrooms of our Teemo and Kassadin’s guerilla tactics allowed me to pick three of them of, preventing a counter push. We pushed again, killed another inhib and got wiped again with two enemies being up. The enemy team now exclusively focussed me… :D

We continued with that, killing a respawned and the last inhibitor. Only Shen survived the battle around their last inhib, with the entire enemy team up… luckily they decided to chase him around the map and thirty seconds later our minions won us the game with all our inhibs untouched.

Very tense game and the Gragas got a well deserved leaver mark (his 164th…) and at least four reports. I also did the most physical damage as Kassadin (all magic damage in my team and in the end I had lichbane) :P

I really, really can’t wait for the Justice thingy. I think you’ll see a lot less of that kind of behaviour.

That’s an awesome story, Therlun. I love it when people whine about how terrible your team is and try to surrender and then you win anyway. If he is a leaver can he still see that you eventually won the game? Probably wouldn’t change his attitude, unfortunately.

Pretty epic story. I don’t know why you waited so long to tell it, because it’s obvious it didn’t happen recently.

RIOT GAMES selects PANDO networks to MEET SURGING DEMAND FOR LEAGUE OF LEGENDS

Not sure why this is a new press release since they’ve been using Pando for awhile. I really hate having to periodically uninstall that crap.

“PANDOMON, I CHOOZE YOU!!!”

Sooooo . . . How can a fella get a hook . . . er, get a game of LoL with the Qt3 crowd? Is there any place for newbies?

Join the steam group/add people in game. I think the steam group isn’t used as much as most of us just log on mumble and hop into a channel.

Yay! Click on my name then join the QT3 LOL group. It should be public.

Download mumble.sourceforge.net

Yeah, I was laning with Jab Blitzcrank the other day, he fed me a dozen kills or something crazy.

Jab/bycan and I have had great fun with me as Kennen and him as blitz. Lots of stuns and knockups and general messing with people. We are a pain to lane against :)

It was today on the EU server because I had Alistar unlocked there but not on the US.

Yea I was wondering where the hostility came from?

Lately it seems like the US mumble has gone from being full of “comedy blaming” to epeen central. My previous post was alluding to that.

Whew! I’ve read a few serious guides and watched some videos, I have a much better idea of what I should be doing now. (not that I’ll be able to do it during a game, mind you) I was being about 70x too aggressive last night, had no idea what my powers were for, and no concept of laning/team transition. Should be fun!

Hougan, want toast the best new player resources you have found? Ta!

Totally reminded me of this game we played on US server, too bad we didn’t win that one.

Are you asking where I found some research stuff? The best is to go to leaguecraft, find a hero:

This week:

•Cho’gath
•Kassadin
•Ryze
•Soraka
•Teemo
•Tristana
•Veigar
•Gragas
•Mordekaiser
•Irelia

And go to a Great or Excellent guide for that hero. WATCH THE VIDEO. All the pretty words are nice but they’re overload; watch the vid to get an idea of the ebb and flow. It all makes a lot more sense to me now.

You know, I’m now at level 9 and starting to get my feet under me with this game, and I’m still surprised how many “good” players and how many guides just skip Fortify as an ability choice.

Maybe not enough players know how it works. It makes all your team’s turrents invulnerable for 7 seconds, and makes them fire twice as fast during that period. As a bonus, when it’s not on cooldown and is sitting ready, you do 9 extra damage to minions. Which isn’t a big deal, but it’s a help in the very early game.

I can’t count the number of times I’ve saved a turret and turned back a lane with Fortify. You have to watch the minimap. You see an enemy clear out your minions and stop at a turret with their minions, and you just pop Fortify (you can use it while dead) and it ruins their day. If it’s a turret at full health I usually give it a couple seconds to pick off a couple minions first. With the double fire rate, 7 seconds of invulnerability is generally enough to kill off the minions and start to fire at the champions enough to scare them off. By then, you have another wave of minions coming, they have to wait for their next wave, and your whole team has time to get in the lane and do something about their push.

I think players tend to choose powers based on what will help them in their own play - giving a speed boost to help escape or chase, or teleport back into action more quickly, stuff like that. Which is all well and good (teleport can be especially good if you use it to target one of your minions and jump way to the end of a lane), but Fortify really buys your side a very big and valuable chunk of time when used well. It buys you a lot more than 7 seconds, in practice!

I’m almost always the only person on my team with it, and I save a turret at least a couple times a game. I can only imagine how useful it could be if two players had it to help alleviate the long cooldown.

It’s less useful in the very late game when players can more easily withstand some turret hits. It’s easy to pull back for 7 seconds and go burn down a tower. It still does a remarkably good job of ruining a push, though.

With the mastery it does AoE damage as well.
I’ve seen some mean fortify teams from time to time where the whole team will have it.

The problem with Fortify is that it does nothing to help you against other players or in a teamfight if you’re not under your tower. As you noted it really loses effectiveness late game when people either pull back out of range or even just stand next to it and wait for Fortify to wear off before destroying the tower anyways.

It IS pretty funny when everyone on a team takes it and the mastery, though.
