Note to self do not play this game alone after 11pm, I know I keep saying that but I keep going back.

I had the following team:

Caitlyn 0/2/2 took mid. Built Vamp Scepter, PD, Boots of Switfness, Brawler’s Gloves.

Leblanc 1/2/1 my lane partner, died first because I was chatting with McKnight but still was really dumb. Built Mejais as first item. Also had spell pen boots. Had half as much CS as me.

WW 0/6/2, whined during champ select about how we needed a tank and a jungle. I had second pick and originally took WW, but when it became apparent that no one else was taking a tank of any kind I told him I’d swap. Got repeatedly ganked in our jungle, bought 0 wards. His items were cloth armor, spell pen boots and Kindlegem (rushing SV?).

Swain, our last pick, had solo lane top against Teemo the only not completely overmatched player on my team apparently. Went 2/0/0 had Mejais, CDR Boots, Blasting wand and Amp Tome.

I played as Malphite, I ended up 1/2/1 (walked stupidly through the river and got jumped by vlad and shaco).

Other team was Mord, Garen (who built hex drinker as his first item) teemo, Vlad and a non jungle Shaco.

This is a special kind of hell.

Maybe just being lucky, but so far no diatribes. Even though, looking at some online guides, I was building and using Soraka all wrong - guess at my levels no-one knows whats going on :)

Bluemax, those stats (if they mean kills/deaths/assists) look low. Are higher level players just very good at not dieing, or was it early surrender?

so I gave Irelia a whirl, pretty decent character. Great midlaner vs squishy similar to Xin and pantheon.

have to build GA though even if you plan to go massive hitpoint build, with GA almost no one will focus you, else everyone tries to burn you down fast.

Just played a bloody annoying game where I was doing ok-ish. Wasn’t mid, didn’t die a lot, didn’t kill a lot, but did add a heck of a lot of assists and stuns and at one point I think I got us an inhib and three kills by tower diving, ulting and hitting Zhonyas Hourglass.

…but the entire time I had Ashe riding my ass for not getting more killz. Being short on tanks (Our Garen couldn’t keep up with their Cho and Singed by any means), with Kas not bothering to tank (he can build tank, right?) it was far too dangerous to leap into any fights until relatively late in the game. I think I did fine -least deaths on any team, most assists, I was landing stuns… what’s not to like? Arggg. Damn stink’en players.

In the early game - particularly as I play squishies or tanks, I tend to regard 0/2/2 and 2/0/0 as exactly equal in scores. I’ve done my job as bait and weakened the opponent enough for my laning partner to finish them off. Ideally I would not have died, but at least we’re trading.

And if I’m 0/0/3 and laning partner is 3/0/0 - again, we’re both doing equally well, he’d just finishing them off.

My rationale is that this is a team game and actual kills vs. assists are immaterial to the team and only matter to the individual as to who gets more money.

In the late game, unless someone is terminally backdooring - the entire team should be about equal in assists, not kills.

All of which means I tend to ignore people who bitch at me for killstealing, and those who bitch at me with stats like your saying ‘OMFG noob 2 and 5, REALLY?’

As a follow up, I played a ranked game recently - been trying to play ranked as Mundo. I was 4th pick.

The other team banned Panth, as they got first pick - Malph, Amumu and Rammus were banned.

With first pick, of course they took Shen.

Our team grabbed Malz, and our 2nd pick took Mundo . . . even though I had said I was grabbing him - when I asked if he was trading to me, he said ‘nah’. Meanwhile, the other team traded two characters around, including Shen. Obviously, they were co-ordinated.

In the end, we were facing Shen, Morde, Sion, WW, and Lux with Mundo, Malz, LB - a melee jungler and me, picking Heimer, because I’m only good with Heimer. And a level of pre-game communication that smelled of victory.

I went top, Malz went middle, and no one talked at all as minions spawned. Facing Morde, I played conservatively - Malz began racking up the center kills (on Shen I think), and the bottom lane not only killed Sion several times, they also took out WW in his ganks.

At level 14, I was infinitely proud of my 0/0/0 score - because owning me was the only chance the other team really had to recover, and they hadn’t succeeded. Morde was tied up in the top lane, with no kills. I’d kept myself warded to fend off WW’s ganks, and the rest of my team was dominating. I shifted (with teleport) into defense of all three lanes while they went on offense. And they surrendered relatively quickly. - With me ending up as something silly like 1/0/3.

No one bitched about my play - they did bitch about my champ selection, I wasn’t too happy with it, either but whattaya gonna do with the 4th pick, ya know?

2/7/2 as Soraka, but we still won. Other team kept on looking for 3:1 or 4:1 (they seemed to always be hiding, waiting to ambush as we went home) So we take down their turrets & inhibitors, and in the end the minions destroy the nexus…

I started a surrender vote 22 minutes in because there was no way were gonna win and I wanted to go to bed. Everyone but WW agreed with me.

I agree. I hate having second pick, taking a jungler and then watching everyone else take squishy mages.

Once I can capably play a jungler and melee DPS, I will agree with ya on the 4th pick. Capably being a contributor on 1300 elo ranked games.

Right now, I’d say I contribute to a win as tanky Mundo and, as per the above, not hurt the team as Heimer.

I’m still of the opinion that if you can’t passably play at least 2 of every type of character you shouldn’t really play ranked.
