no I see wasting 800 gold on item you don’t need is a waste, especially in the early game. Mana regen is very important especially how fast you spam that Q, the best part about chalice is that it scales with your innate mana regen due to it increase your mana regen as your mana goes down, which mean it’s perfectly good to have it even in end game, plus 30 MR is pretty great as well.

I run yellow Mana per 5/level, and I have never said oom before/during/after a team fight…

P.S.

check any good rated GP guides on leaguecraft or elsewhere, other stuff change, but the first thing GP rush is IE, the most common starting item is always a meki pendant…

oh bunny for that very very long game, at very end I was thinking about selling all my shit and go

http://leaguecraft.com/builder/Gangplank/?items=5,5,5,18,88,117&level=18

it would be hilarious since they are all stack armor.

And you are very clearly not comprehending the math. You end up in a net profit immediately after purchasing a Philostone, and then keep gaining gold from it. This is not the case with a Chalice however. Chalice actually gets worse end game because the bigger your mana pool the less effective the passive is. But I mean whatever works for you, this game is about having fun after all.

Also at your level, I’d expect you to stop paying attention to random Leaguecraft guides.

I did fairly well with a squishy GP build.

Doran’s shield - Luc Boots - Tiamat - Bloodthirster - working towards Infinity when we won.

Played very much as a squishy caster except for once we had wiped the enemy, then moved into melee range to take out minions and towers and inhibitors.

I view GP’s ult as a very opportunistic - I tossed it to save towers, to save the baron, to initiate a fight at the dragon, to take towers, to finish off running enemies. It also did mean that I contributed to team fights even as I was farming or laning elsewhere.

Edit: it was exactly like this:

Yes, it leads to a KS or two, but people seem to understand that.

This. 1 to 29 games and level 30 games (not to mention ranked) are two very different worlds. I’m actually positively surprised with how well coordinated some random 30 games are, specially considering it’s a random without anyone sharing a vent/mumble. Yesterday, still rather tipsy, had a great game 4vs5 with our disconnected player joining on the last minute (around the 40 minute mark) and the game basically consisting of a sion/jarvan lockdown and me as a MF annihilating the enemy team from safety.

Also, back from Carnival weekend, hope to get into some games tonight.

Well, I rolled a team but still lost last night. I think I was something like 24/3/10 with Sion. My lanemate afk’d after a few minutes so I took top by myself against a ninja and something casty. I think the ninja just couldn’t process what the little HP bars meant, he kept doing his flit-around teleport and winding up next to me, so I would just whale on him, start my shield, and when he finally figured out that I had 50% more HP he got to catch a stun in the back, followed by a popped shield and death.

I concentrated on AP with a bit of HP as they started to focus me, but honestly I was being insanely aggressive, they just couldn’t punish. Three would come after me and one would chase me all the way to the tower, start to run, Stun, done.

Sadly the afk and a complete lack of team play at the later stage doomed us,I couldn’t be everywhere at once. Most of my teammates stayed dead, so I was always just coming up behind groups and scaring the crap out of them, trying to save the base.

Sounds like Master Yi. OP late game :P

So I started playing this about a week ago and seem to be having my best luck with Tristana…any recommendations for builds with her? Any heroes that are similar that I might want to try? I have played a lot with Ashe too, but she seems a little squishier than I like and I can’t seem to find a good item build with her. Miss Fortune also looked interesting, but she is a) expensive (when she’s not free) and b) also squishy (as I have personally seen to my last 2-3 games).

Any other general tips on playing from the people in this thread who seem to be superhardcore? :)

I had a nearly-full Meija’s about 2/3 through, that’s when things go nukey.

H.

WTF at the enemies Alistar build.

WTF at so many Phantom Dancers in general.

All the characters who are like Tristana are gonna be squishy. They have lower defense and hp to off set their damage output. If you’re interested in playing ranged dps the other ones to try are: Urgot, Corki, Ezrael, Twitch and Sivir. Sivir is probably the easiest of that group to learn, Corki and Ezrael are probably the hardest.

My personal advice is to just keep trying whatever heroes are free. When you’re new to the game the biggest thing you can do is to play as many heroes as possible and learn a little about them. Once you’ve sucked a few games with a particular hero it usually makes facing them a much less scary proposition.

Akali is a fine ranked pick. The reason she got in your face is because she is the bane of existence to any ranged DPS that depends on kiting people (that’s basically all of them), but especially those without an escape mechanism.

If you can’t harass her enough before level 6, she will get her ult and just keep closing the distance on you, doing deceptively large amounts of damage in little time. While the shroud is a weak slow, it’s also a pain in the ass escape mechanism so retaliating isn’t easy. What you faced in laning phase is quite a bit less of a threat in teamfights where she should be focused almost immediately once she shows herself… which is why a good Akali won’t show herself in a teamfight until there is opportunity for her to dash in and slaughter someone while they’re focused on someone else.

Honestly, if you watch the laning phases of top ranked streamers, someone is always getting zoned out. Assuming equal skill levels of the players, LoL is not a game based on luck. One of the champs (or sets of champs) in a lane is more powerful at harassing than the opposing champs at a given level with given items. Figuring out if you’re the champ that should be harassing or attacking or attempting burst damage kills is a big part of the game.

I think Ashe/Tristana use the same generic ranged physical DPS build. My suggestion for your level is to just build a survivability item to start the game… Doran’s Shield or Boots of Speed+HealthPots. Unfortunately you’re going to feel like you want to spend gold once you have like 1200g, at which point many people get a Zeal (attack speed, crit, movement speed). If you can adequately farm up/last hit until 1850g though, you can get a BF Sword for a huge boost to attack damage. Some also turn Boots of Speed (BoS) into Berserker’s Greaves (attack speed, movement speed) instead of getting zeal, and then get the BF sword when they can. If it seems like you need damage right now (and you probably will since it will help on getting last hits), just grab a Pickaxe which you can turn into an Infinity Edge later.

Though the focus should be getting on that Pickaxe or BF Sword ASAP, because IIRC Tristana has an activated attack speed ability which she should be using to fight the enemy, making items like Zeal and Berserker Greaves have slightly less value on her until later on when high crit and attack damage need attack speed to start stacking.

Looking at the length of the game it makes sense to me, not sure if he had it all game though. That was a long game, and a long game where the kills were very lopsided but the team was unable to finish things off for some reason. That’s effectively a tower crushing BD build. Run up to tower, ult, GB, destroy tower. Remember Al does what 120% damage to towers? If you look at the structures destroyed stats this appears to be what he was going for. Not being in that game this is all only conjecture.

I have been going for a Vampiric Scepter (I think?) to start with for Tristana, and I went with a Regrowth Pendant first for Ashe. For some reason, it’s much harder for me to get last blows with Ashe than Tristana, and it seems like Ashe is easier to chase away from creeps, so the Vampiric Scepter wasn’t working as well for Ashe as it was for Tristana, so I switched to the Regrowth Pendant.

After that, I generally try to get some boots -> Berserker’s Greaves; I don’t generally get the Q ability for Tristana until I have to, because it seems like W and E (especially E) give me a lot more bang for my buck. Once I’ve done that, I look at…uhm…that Lantern that you use the Scepter for, which makes me less squishy and having the wards is nice.

After that, I do try to get an Infinity Edge, or start looking at one of the Health Regen armors if I’m finding myself getting pounded. Does this sound like I’m at least on the right track? I feel like I’m a bit lost sometimes with as many options as there are.

and random people on the internet!!!

also it takes 25 minutes to recover the cost of one philospher stone, since you purchase it around 8 minutes marks if you go back to buy as soon as you have money, that means you recover your first stone at 34 minutes mark, and your 2nd stone about 40+ minutes mark, at that point any competent gp would have full item build already.

No actually that math is completely wrong. Because for one your not calculating the cost of the stats you get from the item and your also not including the sell price. But I mean it’s cool, maths can be hard sometimes. Here’s a link to some basic math that should help you out.

Health Regen is a no-no. You’re playing a character that’s going to be at lowish health all game, regen is a stat that only gains value with higher health pools. If you want more survivability, looks at Hexdrinker (MR, AD) or Frozen Mallet (AD, health, slows whoever you’re shooting).

Check this out: http://www.mobafire.com/league-of-legends/browse?sort_type=score_weighted&sort_order=&champion_id=10&teamsize=&threshold=guides&range=&vote_count=0

The top build is maximum damage, but the second build has a bit more survivability with Frozen Mallet, even though both builds are pretty similar.

Well… actually… http://leaguecraft.com/item/Philosopher's%20Stone

13 minutes 20 seconds assuming you sell it back.

I’m not a fan of Berzerker Greaves, they don’t bring anything to the table that other items don’t. It’s much better to take boots that will give you unique properties that you can’t get from other items easily. Like Dodge, Reduced Stun/Snare, reduced cool downs or just more raw speed. The last is especially useful for squishy champs who need to stay away from the bad people trying to kill them.

I don’t like them either, but they have their place if they’re sold off later after affording a zeal. The decision can be made if it fits the gold you have at the time you’re back at base. It’s easy to say that you can just go back to base, but going back to base is time not spent leveling up and killing more creeps.

Well cool down isn’t unique to boots either, nor magic pen. Really the only unique properties are the various degrees of speed and Mercury Treads with the snare reduction, and now Ninja Tabis as well since dodge was removed from other items.

Fair enough…I’ll look at the Mercury Boots next time, since they seem like they could come in pretty handy. Is the Lantern I mentioned a decent choice?
