Well, I think they all tend to fail when it comes to large teamfights, too many whacky over the top particle effects just mish and mash into a giant clusterfuck for me.

I think its kind of a lose lose, you need to be able to tell what effect is going on where and recognize what it is immediately, however, when you there are 10 players all having distinct effects… Its a lot. You can turn the effects quality down and it will reduce them but I found it can make things hard to see in its own way (too dark ect).

You know, the higher level I get, the more detestable the community for this game seems to get. It was really bad at low level, then it seemed to get better. Now at level 23, the amount of poor behavior just blows my mind. I think I played 8 games today and I think I reported about 11 players. Sometimes the ire is directed at me - at 23 the people I face are much better than those I faced at 10, and they tend to have stronger rune setups, and be less forgiving of trying a new character for the first time vs real live players. Sometimes though it’s directed at others. I had a game today where a shen on my team was on a lan or skype with a nocturne on the other team and kept feeding him deliberately, followed by the nocturne slaughtering us repeatedly (but refusing to attack our base) and telling us how much we all suck.

I heard DOTA had a horrible community and that LOL’s was better… but lately I sure don’t see it. A couple of days ago I had a fellow player practically profess his love to me - because I used punctuation, and correctly so. A kindred spirit in the darkness, I guess he was tired of seeing everyone called nubs and fags too.

If your experiences with LoL are bad enough for this post, don’t even consider approaching DotA. There aren’t even newbie games these days, because everyone who plays it has been playing non-stop since 2007.

Lets see what the player justice system does - I think it will be lulz and there will be tears.

So far I have been pretty lucky - no outrageously dickish behaviour or language. Of course, I haven’t yet worked out how to chat all yet…

I think it was shift+enter and it will open up the chat with an “/all” typed in ready to be used to tell the other team how bad your own team is.

/ignore enemy

ftw. Even better they don’t know you can’t hear the smack talk :)

Oh but they know because you then say that you ignored them in /all chat so they rage more.

/ignore ally is also unfortunately a command you may have to use at some point.

I don’t understand how anyone can have 360 wins and not realize that it’s a terrible idea to push the lane we’re getting our asses kicked in.

Heh. QFT. I’ve rarely ever seen a well written, or even badly written taunt aimed at the other side. It is almost always a complaint about how badly they have been let down by their colleagues. Involving nubs and feeders, which has got to be some sort of fetish talk.

Just imagine how many loses they have!

I love it when you join a game, 2 people lock in carries right away, a third chooses another carry, and a fourth takes Cho, says he’s going AP and ‘not doing that tanking shit’ and then tells you to go tank as you’re the only one who hasn’t locked in yet.

Time to surf the web for five minutes.

Random solo games are where you usually find the most nasty people on LoL; yes, it gets worse as you level up and at 30 you are in the eye of the shitstorm, so to speak.
My advice, if you enjoy playing, and you want to remain sane and not utterly disgusted at the game and eventually giving up on it, is to play with players you know, either on the US or the EU servers.

I still solo queue occasionally but the amount of asshattery in randoms is so unbearable that at times I just feel like uninstalling LoL.

In that scenario I either chose a carry or play Blitz but then build him straight dps. If I choose a carry I will select them but not lock in, so I can give the idiot who is bitching about me playing a tank time to get worked up. And then lock in.

The reactions are so precious.

Unfortunately my playtimes are so random that random solo is my only real option to play. :(

Yes, having a team where people lock in immediately with no regard for team comp is vexing… “Game up? Better lock in that Cassiopea”. Even worse though is when one or two people don’t pick ANYTHING until there are 5 seconds left. I don’t mind playing whatever, just let me know what kind of char you are thinking so we don’t end up with no tanks and three ranged carries.

The community is awful, but nothing compared to DotA. I basically refuse to queue solo, have to have at least one friend in there. Not that I really care about winning but I think the most fun part of LoL for me is teamwork and 90% of the time you don’t get it with randoms. Personally I just tune out chat on both sides usually, ignore or no.

I’m going to have to say Blitz is one of thee best endgame heroes. He is unstoppable with good items. I have won 5/5 ranked games I have played with him this week.

Join the Steam Group and message people, you’d be surprised how many people will drop stuff and come play lol ;)
