Learning home DIY?

I like this idea.

My first job in high school was food service. My official title was “Dietary Cleaning Leader,” thank you very much. I’d quite happily tackle vent hoods, grease traps, even the fill tank of the industrial pot and pan washer—which, after 10 straight hours of abuse at the hands of Roy Earl Freeman, the pots and pans golem, was goddamn horrifying.

But drains just squick me out.

I have one in my house, which I tend to use every few months or so (got some old pipes). Hair is terrible. Specifically, I use one that I can optionally turn with a hand drill - easier and gets better results, I found. I’ve busted a couple by giving it too much slack and kinking it, though.

I picked up a manual one from home depot (RIDGID or something, it’s orange) but I think I regret not getting the ones that attach to a drill. The problem is it seems I need three hands to operate it. One to hold it, one to spin it, and another hand to guide the snake in.

I bought this last month and it worked great. its cheap and it has a metal piece out the back that you can attach a drill to. Its a good length as i ended up using 20 feet and got a huge gunk of hair out. I then got my wife the mesh above as well to curb this problem.

Thanks all! It sounds like a thing that will actually see some use, and seems like it’s easy enough to manage that I’ll actually use one.

OK so this is sorta deviating off the “Home DIY” track but I had to share. For the next year or so I will be living in a small space. As such, I’ve had to get super creative about organization and storage solutions. Today I got to try out a new vacuum storage compactor when my three king size duvets came home from the cleaners.

Holy crap does this thing work. Folded and stacked, the three duvets are nearly 4 feet high and this thing compressed them down to about 7-8" in just a couple of minutes. Gonna order a couple more for blankets, pillows and clothes.
