I agree on the rocketbooming… But I think we can only just use the honor system on that.
If you are playing on infected and you see someone doing it, just let them know why it’s frowned on.

so for us people who have no idea what you’re talking about, you are talking about spawning a boomer as you are ghost-flying right?

You move forward, tap the fly button periodically to stay low, spawn before you get sightline and your spawning velocity remains. Not that easy to pull off well, but it’s something people should be doing if they want to get somewhere quickly. Holding Reload to fly doesn’t actually work very well for moving forward.
Yes. Think of it like football, you can’t be in motion before the spawn/hike. Wait until you’re totally still and planted before spawning… Once you’re spawned, feel free to leap from the highest mountain.
Disagree! Running and jumping while spawning (jump-spawning) is a key skill for boomer, and has been since the early days of L4D1, as Trey said. I remember doing it tons in No Mercy and then later in Dead Air and no-one ever complained. Abuse of the modded-in ability to fly to gain unnatural speed before spawning is the (apparent) problem.
Jeez Staff, when are you going to get a new router so you can play L4D again? We had a pretty epic late night game tonight where who was in lead actually flipped a few times between rounds until the finale where all 4 of us made it across the bridge, limping into the helicopter 20 feet in front of the tank. Then came one of the funniest moments in L4D since the first time seeing Pogo jump off the bridge himself right before he was caught:
I barely charged Jab through the first hole in the bridge and just heard “BULLLLLLSHIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!!!” as we fell.

That “bulllshiiiiiiiit” was the reason I knew mid-charge that Jab just got dead.
I forgot to add that it was a great game despite the fact we had to take a break in the middle because a raccoon fell down my chimney.

We would’ve waited longer for pictures of that ordeal.
How’d you get it out? Open door worked?
Yeah, I just pointed a lamp into the fireplace so it didn’t get comfortable and pushed some boxes together to make a path to the door. Eventually it slowly creeped out and ran into the night.
I’m not sure if I’m getting a new router at all. I may tempt fate and try playing a game with you guys anyways, it has periods where it sucks and then long stretches of stability. The bigger issue now is that I’ve become addicted to Mass Effect 2.

You sure it’s the router?
If you have Comcast–I’ll bet money it is them. IU had them do a full replacement of the line from the house to the road because of intermittent connectivity issues. I thought it was the router at first too.
We went through the same thing with Comcast, eventually we just gave up and went to Verizon FIOS.
As for Rocketbooming, I didn’t even know you could do that. I can’t recall ever seeing it done, is it really that prevalent?
It’s the router. All devices hooked up via ethernet cable experience no problems whatsoever, they continue to have internet when all the wireless devices lose signal.
EDIT: It may just be a problem with some sort of signal interference, I’ll have to try changing the frequency.
Before the ban I would do it all the time, and I know Thorn was a frequent offender as well. It really is a thing of beauty, in my opinion, but I do admit that I’m not sure how it can be stopped. Its not useful in enough places to warrant a ban, but it does open up for some serious boomer action in spots–especially jamming people outside of safe rooms. I for one am sad to see it gone.

How about I do it for every boomer spawn next game and we’ll see how many useful places I can come up with?
There are certainly plenty of places where a “normal” spawn is probably a better choice (Boomerrocketing being an inexact science). But I think boomer-rocketing is useful for like 90% of the original campaigns (with many more indoor areas, The Passing would reduce the usage rate).
I felt like I was playing L4d2 on skates last night. I am terrible on roller-skates, incidentally.
Sorry, must be the server running a bit slower then normal… I will look into it.
Edit:
Seems okay… no unusual CPU usage… Let me know if it persists though.

The server did crash and die some time yesterday morning, which is the first I’ve seen it do that… I haven’t looked into the cause yet, but everything seems to have been started up okay, since.
