But only on expert. It doesn’t hurt that bad on advanced. The wasting it issue is actually a good aspect of the design, I think, and it even makes a melee weapon vs magnum choice interesting (the latter really does a good job allowing you to conserve special ammo on a primary, since it can fulfill certain duties - like rescuing a distant teammate - better than a melee weapon). And that’s true about not needing to hit for it to work.

I think the clear disadvantages are enough to balance out the advantages. Not only that, but it can be a requirement to prevent some very easy big damage attacks started by chargers (Carnival coaster, Parish sewer, Parish 4 crescendo).

And the explosive damage itself… let’s not kid ourselves here. The usefulness of that against the classes affected most (smoker, boomer, spitter… not charger because I’m talking about the aoe effect, not the knockback effect) is trivial, as those classes are very quick to die if spotted out in the open.

2 more days until I get my microphone working again! Want to play some more deadly L4D

Oh no, you’re right, the explosive damage is useless unless you’re popping a boomer out of sight up a ladder. I’m just saying you don’t even have to actually hit a SI to stagger them, and in VS there pretty much ARE no disadvantages to explosive ammo since it’s locked to normal difficulty and you’ll do like 5 friendly fire damage total. Then in VS those easy big damage attacks still get flubbed half the time by people who don’t know them well enough, and with explosive ammo the stronger team will tend to just run through them at top speed leaving the weaker team wanting to slit their wrists.

All that to say I can see why they’d take it out of VS in order to help the infected some.

I just got this at the latest steam sale. If anyone wants to run the campaign with a newbie, my steam name is marxeil, like my QT3 name only on steam ;)

Me too except I’m pwarning

Me three! I’m also notatiger on steam.

Who won the second game last night, my internet decided it was time for bed.

Second game was Hard Rain, yes? Jab’s team won.

By the way I’d also love to get in on this Campaign run through. I only picked up the game last night and have never played any kind of L4D game.

I picked this up in the sale as well. SteamID: vyshka

Charge into witch = win.

This is why I like QT3 so much. Thanks for the advice :)

My chainsaw thrives on a steady diet of witches.

Wow, this may replace TF2 for some time. Can be very frustrating sometimes, but with some decent players very satisfying.
Are there any euro guys here who’d like to arrange a game? I’m off for this week but will return next week without kids and wife and will be happy to burn an afternoon / evening.

I’m up for it.

I can’t speak for how things go with you in Europe, but stateside public coop games tend to be pretty good in terms of quality of other players. I mean, you’ll play with plenty of bozos who don’t know how to play the game correctly, let alone well. But they’ll be decent people at least. Public versus is a cesspool, though. It’s largely filled with gloating team stackers, serial rage quitters, and above all raging assholes.

A well coordinated coop effort is a real blast, it’s true. A well coordinated versus effort is sublime.

Well, I’ll post here when I get back and see if we can get something going.

Marxeil I’d sure be up for something aswell when you get back.

Been loving this game for the past couple days. Have had some great groups and some filled with total morons, but it’s been good for the most part. Is the first game pretty much the same thing just with different characters/maps or would it be hard to go back to the first after playing L4D2?
