Dealing with those hordes requires at least two pipebombs, perhaps a molotov, perhaps a bile bomb. The goal is to redirect those hordes.

The best place to redirect a horde with a pipebomb is in the direction that they came from, not where they are going.

Also with that horde if you can get one person into the safe room it completely stops the horde, which is why it’s better in that situation to leave any incapped survivors at that point and try to get someone into the room.

Realism Vs so far is awesome, it’s the perfect modifier for our expert games as the lack of med kits and the obvious buffs to the infected makes things interesting.

Agreed completely. I love it.

In case you missed it the last twenty times it was posted, you can pretty easily find a game of L4D with other Qt3 people by clicking here. The steamgroup chat room is our pickup game staging area.

Realism VS lesson: nearly impossible to fight off a horde on you (assuming you are alone) with the hunting rifle anymore. Or maybe one needs to take the time to shoot at their heads.

I don’t pick up a sniper rifle unless I have a melee weapon.

I’ve downloaded Dead City 2 and 2 Evil Eyes.

Dead City 2 is much more polished and complete than the L4D1 version. Took me like 30 minutes just to get through the first chapter.

If anyone wants to play these co-op tonight, lemme know on Steam.

Good call. Now that I think of it, I think it was a mid-map out of assault rifle ammo/only hunting rifle available. Still, as one who has not favored melee in the past, that’s something I hadn’t considered as a requirement.

Sometimes if I join a game mid-map and I don’t have a melee weapon, I will find a different game. It’s frustrating to play without one.

It definately helps; I’m not the best shot but I try to be behind people and standing so I can easily aim at head level. But I’ve also resigned myself to using more ammo. The nice thing about the hunting rifle is it has a quick reload. It’s definately not my weapon of choice.

So what’s the learning curve like with LFD2? I’m trying to convince some friends to get it for the versus but they’re worried we’ll get curb-stomped endlessly since its been out for so long.

Yes, you would. Best advice: Get 8 friends and start at the same time. Next best: join the Qt3 group and let us divvy you up between our teams. But if you want to play as a 4-man newbie team on the random internet, terrible things will happen for quite a while.

That said, coop against the AI is incredibly fun as well, and the director keeps things fairly fresh so you can do a lot of replays before you get into the deep end of the pool. Supplement with non-friend VS games and you’ll be ready to go as a team in a few weeks.

H.

What Houngan said. It’s totally worth it for coop alone. When you’re ready, go party with the Qt3 group.

4-player co-op is a blast. Do NOT venture into 4v4 team versus games as a bunch of noobs.

A full run-through of the co-op game (on Normal for new people, dying a couple times, that’s about 8 hours) should give you some experience and insight into how to deal with zombies and special infected, and even some tactics on properly reacting to some situations. At the least, it teaches you the levels so that you don’t run around getting your ass creamed in versus.

The game is, first and foremost, an awesome co-op experience for 4 friends.

Is gaming without a mic acceptable with the QT3 group (non-realism)?

I tried 4v4 versus scavenge on pub servers a few times, definitely a lot more intimidating and less friendly than TF2 (where you could blend into 32 player servers as a noob)

According to the update notes, Valve added support for bots in Versus. How does that work? Is it in SP for everyone, or only in MP server settings?

Fuckin’ mir…

Awesome, we’ll prob be getting it tonight. Thanks for the advice, all. I’m sure we’ll be hitting up the Qt3 group after we have some hours under our belts.

Feel free to pop in the chat and ask if you need more for campaigns- I enjoy playing on all difficulties!

After some tinkering, I’ve readded sourcemod to the qt3 servers and added the following plugins:

votable pause
player swap
water break
snarespeak
MP5 and SSG552 from German version of L4D2
Acid-DOT swipe for the spitter (1 damage per tick, 10 ticks, stackable)
Zombie Character Select
Survivor Character Select (models only… so you can play as Francis with Rochelle’s voice)
