Didn’t alarm cars already trigger from those things?

Charges didn’t, believe it or not.

But the question is: If you charge a car into a player, does the alarm sound?

Smokers and chargers would not cause players to trigger the car. I’m not sure hunter pounces that caused players to bounce into a car worked either. Many a profanity has been spewed when discovering those things, usually in some awesome moment where the special infected player set up a perfect charge or smoke and then was extremely disappointed that it didn’t trigger an alarm.

So… yeah, fixed!

Nope. The other night a charger hit the car on parish 1 into a player (incapping him) and the alarm didn’t go off.

edit: oh, you probably meant post-patch. sorry

Since chet has shown his face again, I’ll take this opportunity to say thank you for helping to make TF2 and L4D2. They’re practically the only two games I play anymore and I still have a blast.

It seems to me that search key is no longer necessary. Just start a game lobby and use ‘Steam Group Server’. (also make sure you took out the search key).

Yes, L4D2 is great and you should play with us, Chet.

Eh, new mutation is very “miss.” Doesn’t provide any new interesting way to play the game.

Especially since so many of the levels just have you bunched up waiting for the gate to open, or the bridge blocker to drop, or the helicopter to land right next to you, or for the boat to finally stop at the dock.

I vote for shunning the mutation in favor of more I Hate Mountains tonight. Preferably in VS, if we can get 8 players.

L4D 1 for that right?
I downloaded that and played a bit. Fun group of maps.
I’d be down for a game around 10pm

L4D1 VS is not as much fun as I remember it being.

I Hate Mountains is a pretty brutal map for vs. But I found myself missing the new infected. What I do really like about L4D1 is the atmosphere, I think having L4D2 in daylight it really loses something.

Hehe- i am going to blame the map for this first try- as our tank managed to spawn behind an event, and a lot of this campaign revovled around staying out of large hunter pounce damage range. Forgot how it felt to only have 3 infected to use- but I vote that we play NO MERCY!

Hah! I played No Mercy last night, and it is still fun.

The L4D2 match last night…wow that is so much better than vanilla. Amazing how much cooler it becomes when you can pick your infected.

yep. I feel the same way about ghost-fly and water-break. It’s one of those things that once you start playing it, it just feels like a given part of the game… Trying to play on other servers just feels less fun.

Yeah, I just wish I could play it with L4D2. I own both L4D1 and L4D2, I have both installed, they’re both using more or less the same engine, why can’t L4D2 just let me play the original maps? It seems like such a win-win thing for Valve to implement… and the various hacks just never fucking work right.

(They could conceivably do the same thing with the models, too…)

Infected selector has just spoiled the game for me, on the nights when the server isn’t working and we have to switch off it’s just so different not being able to pick which infected. Especially when you can’t select a spitter or charger at the best times.

I’m posting this here for posterity:
Apparently Valve hides the SteamID for a SteamGroup in the Steam UI in such a way that only the SteamGroup’s founder can find it. However, if you know where to look, and do some simple math, you can find the SteamID another way… Look at the SteamGroup’s chat room link (steam://friends/joinchat/103582791429521541 for qt3) take that long number at the end and subtract 103582791429521408 from it.

So, looking at the source for Chet’s profile, you can determine the official Valve SteamGroupID is 4 and the Qt3 group is 133. So, you could list those numbers with sv_steamgroup “4,133,1234567” in the server cfg file and everyone in those three groups would see the server on their steamgroup server list and choose them with the lobby server chooser…

The PROBLEM with this is that L4D2 will only list a max of 20 SteamGroup servers, and if server admins want to be dicks (and there are plenty of them out there) they could just list tons of steamgroups and quickly overload players’ steamgroup lists.

Also should be noted that looking up player steamID’s is similarly easy, but I don’t think there’s any way to exploit that yet.

What’s water-break do?

It slows you down when wading thru knee-deep water. Normally this is only enabled in coop/realism… The water-break plugin adds it to VS as well, which makes Hard Rain much more interesting, especially since it makes the higher-ground paths actually worth considering.

Oh right, I forgot about that one. Thanks.
