You can host a private server locally to practice with the right cfg.

Oh come on! It was gentle hazing!

We were mostly making fun of how terrible we were playing compared to how we normally play; running through a campaign on normal after months of expert/versus will make you do some sloppy shit, I tell ya.

Scroll down to the bottom of the first post, and you’ll get the basic commands to run a local server if you don’t want to use the .cfg method… it also has GREAT advice for hunters, obviously :)

Thanks for the help, guys. I got it working beautifully and ended up posting my own guide to setting up pouncing practice (some minor changes from the above links) on GWJ. I need to put things in config files and keybinds for convenience, but the important commands are all there.

New mechanic

It’s been elusive to nail down, but the “push” mechanic of pounces is indeed a consistent and intended mechanic. For anyone who doesn’t know, you can “push” people off surfaces for extra damage in pounces, while it has a minimum drop distance of about 35 feet to do damage, it scales up VERY quickly, getting up to 75+ damage at 45+ feet for a fall. To do this, pounce someone on a ladder (no mercy map 3, final ladder is a great place), you may not see it, but when you pin them to the ground below the game will make a “ding” noise confirming the push damage, if you’re in the air long enough or don’t do initial pounce damage, you will see “player pushed other player for xx damage”. This is extremely deadly, and I would like to see if there are other ways this mechanic can be implimented into the hunter game.

That totally changes the way I’m playing the ladders on the Final and MH4.

That is the reason I’m always off the ladder when the first guy goes up.

Is steam down for anyone else? I can’t even get to their support page.

And now I’m getting network timeouts.

Edit: Oooh.

I’m sure everybody knows this, but steam is back up now! :)

One thing with the pounce push: if you are jumping when a hunter hits you it will push you a lot farther, so survivors should avoid jumping near ledges and such, and as a corollary if a survivor has to jump for some reason that’s a great time to pounce them (there are some parts of BH where the survivors like to jump from one platform to another).

Good game tonight. I think I need to work on witch killing. I probably screwed it up for my team twice. Was still fun, if a bit frustrating. XD

I just don’t trust the crown, ever. I’d rather we get in 2 groups, 2 people inside eachother, and throw a molly or just start spraying at the head.

The game either last night or two nights ago was infuriating because whoever the other team had designated as cr0wner was quite godlike at it. We had a Smoker ready on the other side of every witch and he would just ignore the smoker and cr0wn the witch as he was being dragged away every time.

I’ve become convinced that having one person with a hunting rifle is key for the ‘smoker near the witch’ moments.
Actual crowning is pretty easy, i always get screwed by a hunter or smoker breaking my concentration.

I hated that… we’d get a perfect pull 2 or so times and I’d be thinking “YESSS!” and then I’d see the witch just drop to the ground. Very infuriating.

Lastnight, however, we screwed up the witch cr0wn a few times, so I think it really depends on the skill of the cr0wner.

Also I need to pay more attention, I JUST realized you are Staff Sergeant.

Oh…he is Staff. I’m Maj.Malphunktion.
The perfect name for someone that is destined to screw up big at least once per play through.

Yeah, I’ve been playing as Staff Sergeant since maybe December. During the beta demo I was just EFG, I decided to use Staff Sergeant Max Fightmaster (from Cracked’s list) in November but it was way too long so I shortened it to Staff Sergeant. It has kind of a stupid origin but I like it, and I’ve never seen anyone else with the same name as me in all the public matches I’ve played.

Good game tonight that ended in GLORIOUS VICTORY!

Well, for our team at least. It was really close, we were a few hundred points behind until NM4 where we pulled a few hundred ahead. Then in the finale Jab’s team executed a perfect rooftop ambush that actually killed Staff Sergeant/EFG thanks to an amazing boomer block on the ladder, and we of course followed him soon after.

They all survived the ambush, and our first tank (partly due to setting it on fire just before Bad Neighbor got control). Then I got a lucky break with the second tank and spawned out of sight but right on their heels. At the side platform I punched Zoey off the roof, turned and hit Jab with a rock JUST before he set me on fire and beat him down, then went right back over and punched Francis into space. After that I made faces at Louis where he was caught by our smoker until Jab freed him from the ground, and would’ve punched him off the roof too but he just collapsed instead when I hit him. I feel like that makes up for some of my previous goofs and flubs.

Oh most definitely. As I said in the chat just after you disconnected, that was a truly legendary Tank. PS Thanks for not mentioning that I boomed all four of them right as you were getting to them.

I had to take break after the first whooping we got. The game I joined halfway later was fun, but also frustrated me when I got tank. Nothing makes me madder than swinging at a guy right in front of me and not hitting him as the tank :( I think it truly ruins my night when I failtank! :D

Ah yes sorry, I forgot about that since I didn’t see much of the horde. I think a lot of it died in the fire below? Our whole team was doing really well, despite not getting lucky enough to kill anyone at the start.

Also, the tank’s punch detection indeed seems more solid at times than others. I remember being the tank once in the subway tunnels and swinging through someone standing on a table three or four times before hitting them. Sometimes it’s just… spotty. But hey, at least the multi-hit works more often now!

I always failtank on the final. I hate being the tank on the final.
Why do we never play the other missions? NM is better I admit, sometimes I’d like different scenery just for giggles.
Just a suggestion.
