BH finale is comparatively lame, and the other maps aren’t ‘approved’ for VS yet. NM lets each team flex their muscles, BH is really about trying to spawn behind tiny trees and is very very frustrating.

Personally I like BH up to the finale which I think is the weakest one for vs. There just isn’t any place that gives both sides a balanced fight. I think that boomer and tank detection is still off sometimes. There are a lot of times as the boomer that I get 3 people and the fourth one seems to avoid it. Also I’ve yet to see the boomer drop hit the survivors when it blows up.

I agree Jab! I was writing a long post about that but I gave up. BH1 has many exciting points, and it really is scary not being able to see in the woods. BH2 and 3 are great as well, and while BH4 is short, I think its very fun! On BH4 though, I think they should add some overturned cars and stuff to make the bridge run harder. Once people are on the bridge, its over :P Nowhere to spawn, and they can go fast. I would prefer it if they had to climb over things!
Like hell - some of my favorite moments are catching the last remaining survivors trying to haul ass across the bridge. It’s where Hunters shine.
If there’s only one person left - but it’s extremely rare that even one survivor dies in that level, even with a Tank it’s hard to take down a good team on BH4. In fact I’d say that BH4 is much easier to survive than NM4, at least NM4 has that ambush corner.
BH4 can be over in a couple of minutes, it’s certainly the shortest of the current versus maps - the only slow down is when a witch spawns in a bad place (top of the stairs for instance). When a survivor goes in the window of the house, you know it’s as good as over.
Though a good smoker can do some damage at the jump off point by the warehouse as can a hunter - once they’re on the bridge though, it is essentially game over… You can take the support beams in an attempt to catch up and do a bit more damage, but unless they’re really spread out you won’t last long.

On the topic of BH4, I remember playing it with a few different Qt3+friends, and they thought that hopping the fence was a glitch/exploit. What are your guys’ opinions on this? I think it is definitely as intended, and I prefer it to going in the house. It often catches the other team off guard.
…but, I would like to know your guys’ opinions. I dont wanna do it in a game we are playing and get yelled at :P
Had some fun with the finale of a pub smash tonight… We were on WF’s server so I decided that instead of 1 Tank, each team would receive 4 Tanks. Trust me, it is as over-the-top as it sounds, but damn is it ever fun. Playing that 2-3 minutes with 4 Tanks was the most fun I’ve had with L4D since launch. I was going to give the pubs 4 Tanks as well to see what the receiving end was like but the server crashed (I guess it doesn’t like me cheating). I did some other stuff to throw them off and fore-shadow the upcoming multiple tank spawn as well (like spawn all 4 infected players as smokers, and a whole bunch of AI boomers around the building).
Have to ask, did the other team agree or was at least informed of all this before the tanks?
That’s kinda bad, I’ve been in the receiving end of server cheating and it pisses me off.
I didn’t tell them beforehand as it’s hard enough to find pubs to play, but I really didn’t think it was a big deal as all the time I wasted of theirs was maybe 5 minutes. What actually happened was the server crashed on NM4 so we re-hosted the finale, so the people that fought 4 Tanks weren’t invested in the game at all, they just got in and fought 4 Tanks. And as we were doing it I told them I would give them 4 Tanks as well.
EDIT: FWIW, they really didn’t seem to mind. I don’t see how they could possibly get mad about it as it’s not like I was giving us an advantage or anything, I just wanted to try something different.
I think it’s cheap and is a big disadvantage for the infected as compared to the house.
…unless there is a tank, then it’s punt city! :)
Something new I discovered with cheating today (sorry wisefool me and Ransom went on your server for 5 minutes to test it, the rest of my testing was done on a locally hosted game), Ransom said that once you set sv_cheats to 1 with an RCON command, from there on anyone in the server can use cheats. This was proved true when I activated cheats on WF’s server and Ransom was able to use cheats, and when I activated cheats on my own locally hosted server everyone was able to use cheats (and as soon as they realized what was going on pretty much everyone activated noclip and zoomed away). So I would say that cheats in L4D are pretty much useless in a pub smash scenario as it would just devolve the game to everyone cheating within minutes, but could be good in an all-qt3 game if we all agreed to have say 2 tanks at once in the finale and no other cheats.

Hopping the fence is totally awesome. I first learned of it while playing infected, and it blew my mind. It seems pretty clear that it’s a viable and intended (albeit not obvious) path, just like going behind the truck in NM1. And it has its own risk – it’s a point of no return, so if a smoker snags the last survivor in line, they’re toast.
anyone else see their steam achievements reset in game? being 2 thousand zombies away from Genocide is making me panic.
Can someone elaborate on hopping the fence? This is new to me.

Going up the stairs to the house on the bridge map, you can jump over the railings instead of going inside. You jump behind a fence and there is a path that winds around, goes under the bridge, and comes up the side. You don’t need to go in the house at all!

Ehhhh… not really. Spawning is tough to do, and one hunter jumping from behind the train car isn’t exactly going to end the game when the whole team has a straight line of sight all the way down the bridge and can snipe any hunters trailing.
I think that’s why the problem was really server operators activating the cheats, using them quickly, then deactivating the cheat enabler.
You wouldn’t even have to leave a window if that is possible, you could just put:
rcon_password password; rcon sv_cheats 1; whatever cheats you want separated by semicolons; rcon sv_cheats 0
into the console and it would never give anyone else even a second to take advantage.
Great games last night guys. I feel like I got the hunter and smoker down now, I get lucky with the boomer, and i suck at Tank driving- luckily I didn’t have a tank last night.
So is it just me or should the whole Cr0wnd thing be removed? It seems for the most part the Witch is not as big of a threat as she should be.Maybe if she one shot , then could still do damage to other players…or just up her HP by 1000 in Vs. games…
