I really hate the Death Toll map with that long board walk that smokers can pull off of. Its a real pain to get through :P

I usually do what MarinusWA described in the DT finale, covering the second floor of the house from the corners. Has anyone tried holding out under the deck, though? I saw a video of some people doing it in Survival, as close to the house as possible, and it actually seems like a pretty decent place. Hunters have very few options, boomers won’t be able to surprise (though it may be possible to get one or two people from the side, and smokers won’t be able to take you far – at least from what I can tell. Would love to hear if someone has experience trying this.

LOL- I don’t know what you mean.

It is all about that fir tree. Just pipe bomb or molly that area and run like hell.

The Boathouse Finale, go out to sea, behind the house as far as possible. None of the enemy infected can sneak up on you, so it’s a freaking killing field. Only come back to land for the tanks.

See, that’s what I’m thinking… except I’d go under the deck to avoid any ridiculous hunter pounces.

I wouldn’t call it an exploit in the same way I wouldn’t call the old Dead Air tactic an exploit. It’s just extremely cheesy.

look, zombies! Everyone jump in the water!

hehe, but then again a lot of l4d doesn’t make real-world zombie sense. For instance, no melee weapons? Anyone who’s read Max Brooks knows that when it comes to zombies melee weapons are a necessity, personally I favour the shovel.

I agree, a shovel is essential zombie busting equipment.

Against fast runner zombies that come at you in packs? No thanks.

I’d favor a Machete, personally. Light, fast, deadly.
I have my whole zombie apocalypse survival planned out already, elaborately written in a marble notebook in my desk.

Depends, if the zombies need to be beheaded, the shovel is the OBVIOUS choice. If they are like any mortal human, machete would be alright. I still think I’d prefer a nice steel-bladed shovel for its weight and cutting power.

Damn. I am way behind in my zombie apocolypse prep…but I do keep a 5 iron at the ready.

I definitely see where you’re coming from thrrrpptt!, but remember that unlike in l4d you wouldn’t have unlimited ammo. So yeah, guns are nice versus those fast zombies but a gun without bullets is not going to do you much good. I’d definitely want guns (if I could find any) but I’m just sayin… bring a shovel. and machete? you guys could cleave skulls and damage brains with those?

Sure, the machete is fine… until it gets lodged in a zombie. And then you’re anchored to the thing you’re trying to get away from. Metal baseball bats and shovels FTW.

Also, learned tonight that the smoker pull from the window overlooking the DA crane event can be an insta-kill. Yikes.

Yeah, at first it was interesting because it was “always a unique experience” or whatever, but all the “random” bullshit is really starting to piss in my competitive coffee. Things should either be all-or-nothing (preferably all, the whole hanging on things is completely awful), the loss of 1/4 of the squad shouldn’t be based on luck. I’ve also seen people insta-killed by being knocked out of the window by a boomer explosion.

Also, the slight difference in witch and tank spawns is basically just as bad as the complete randomness of them from was before. The difference between a witch on the panel truck and at the top of the fire escape in DA2 is huge. Permanent death huge.

I know what you mean EFG- but I’ve learned to stop worrying and love the Zombie.

L4D will be free on Friday, so it’ll be a pub-smash extravaganza. My new place needs some phone line work, so I may not be able to play this weekend like I had wanted, though.

As a non L4D owner, I’ve preloaded for tomorrow. I have a headset, and I’m very good at FPS’s in general, as well as team based FPS’s. Adopt a newb today! Ok, well, tomorrow, really.

Bah! Don’t feed me that. All I ever see you play on Steam is CoH:ToV. Never in the history of mankind* has a person been “very good” at both RTS games and FPS games. I call your bluff…

*I will not reveal my source

It’s the infected that is the real challenge to play anyways, and you can’t come in already good at it. Being a good hunter/boomer requires knowledge of the trajectory of the pounce and vomit that you can’t really know until you do it a lot (I still miss epically and yell curse words occasionally), then there’s the fact that teamwork is essential to not getting killed within 3 seconds of attacking.

On the Survivor side, difficulty is forced to Normal which means regular zombies are paper, special infected die in seconds of you spotting them, Tanks go down like bitches with T2s/fire, and everything you need to be aware of is shoved in your face via massive amounts of visual/audio cues.
