I was an OK host. I only had 40kb/s upstream, so 4-player games were ok (seems like it really only takes like 12kb/s to play this game at 130 ping).

I’m not sure I’ve ever played sober. Gotta do something about that . . .

That’s so dangerous to be drunk with guns in the house. And even worse: access to the Internet and communications devices!

That’s why I put the guns and my smoke signal fire in the safe.

Hey cool I didn’t know that! My day/year falls on the Jim Jones/Jonestown mass suicide.

I’d be happy to host on my VPS. Are there any maps in particular that people would like?

I have death aboard loaded on mine already. As well as Escape from Toronto, but that really sucks - so ignore it. If you find any other cool ones, let me know and i’ll load them. I think you should be able to vote change them using the console command.

Holy cow, this is one intense game. In single-player, at least. Partly because my “teammates” are so uncoordinated and can’t follow simple directions that they wind up lagging behind or sprinting ahead while I get surrounded.

Nice work to all I played with tonight. Sorry for getting overzealous and excited as the tank on the finale. Haven’t played in a while, should have just let the Hunter take care of the last guy. Apologies for that. Eked out a win though. Thanks for being patient.

Am I the only one here that has never tried to play L4D in single player? Even random idiots online seems like more fun.

I went into singleplayer to try to get Cr0wned, Tankbusters, and Man Vs Tank, but of course I failed to get them and then somehow got those achievements later in Versus.

See, but I don’t like playing with random idiots online. I’ve had my share of that, and it just doesn’t appeal anymore.

I prefer to play with people I’m at least nominally familiar with and can trust (more or less) not to quit in spite, or use an aimbot, or hurl profanities at me (as opposed to constructive trash-talk), or bunny-hop all over the map with neither rhyme nor reason.

Unfortunately, my old LAN party buddies have all moved away.

If only you had some way to communicate with like-minded individuals in order to play games together. It’s like, why hasn’t someone created some infrastructure, for both digital distribution of games, and also included a method of associating yourself with others (let’s calling it ‘friend’ing), to facilitate communication and scheduling. Not only that, people could join groups organized around online communities (like, Quarter To Three’) and specific games that those community members like to play (like, ‘Quarter To Three - Left 4 Dead’), and then those community members could start and join games with each other via things like ‘chat rooms’ and ‘invites’ to games.

I know it’s just a pipedream, but I wish someone would invent that.

Join the Qt3 L4D group… if you’re on Steam.

Can’t it be assumed that if you have l4d, you have steam?

And no, I’m not even advocating playing with idiots. I’m saying playing alone is boring.

Just fyi, I changed some of the cvars. The current version has the following changes:

No Medpack respawn (except finales)

Tanks
-90% chance per round on rounds 1-4
-10% chance on finale

Witches

  • 50% chance on round 1
  • 90% on rounds 2-4
  • 0% chance in finale

Score modifier

  • reduced to 1.2x on easy rounds (NM4, BH4)

it’s also loaded with Death aboard, which i think you can do with a votemap switch, like we did for DT and DA until they became fully supported.

If you don’t yet have death aboard, you can pick it up at: http://www.l4dmaps.com/details.php?file=33

If you know of other good maps, let me know and i’ll load them up.

Anyone’s welcome to use the server, though I reserve the right to kick pubs to open up spaces for friends. I won’t post the search_key here, but if you want it, just pm me.

I just may do so, if I can figure out how. But Steam can’t be that much harder to figure out than the ol’ Internet Gaming Zone was, or Heat.

EDIT: Found it, but apparently I need an invite…

Xbox360.

What is your SteamID or w/e… post it here or PM somebody and we’ll get you an invite. We have regular games :)

Same handle as here. It’s served me for quite a long time on these here Internets, and I’ve gotten used to it.

Although at a LAN party, I’m Stiletto…

Thanks in advance to whomever it may concern. And I’ll try and rustle up a microphone and not suck too hard at the game.

Friended and invited. We usually try to get a game or two set up most nights after 9 or so. We often meet in the ‘group’ chat, and post events to invite others to join the chat when somebody really wants to get a game going. We’re happy to have ya.
