I’ll be a fanboi and say l4D is my favorite online shooter in the past 5 years, maybe of all time. I have more fun per match than maybe any game I’ve played except Battlefield 42 and Quakeworld.

That’s fine, as I always say “There’s always room on Staff’s team for a bad player!”
Also, how well do you handle people freaking out on you?
;)
The game ranges from the most fun I’ve ever had online when the teams are well balanced to an incredibly frustrating experience that makes you never want to play it again when the teams are imbalanced.

Ya, I’d agree to that. I think it was better though when we were all learning the game, now we’ve all pretty much seen and done everything - we know the tactics. The game’s less forgiving on a single new-person joining now.
Finally got my computer back after a week where I couldn’t use it (RAID Controller failure, had to blow everything away :(),
Thank God for Steam.
No running around hoping I didn’t lose/scratch my disk.
Click. Download. Install. Done.
So I hope I will be playing against you guys soon, I haven’t eaten anyone’s face in weeks now! (Hunter POUNCE!)

I agree with the above posts: It can be the best time ever, or make you want to throw your computer through the window. Still, even if you are on the losing end, getting horribly beaten, I really wish people would tough it out. We have all played with each other enough now that ragequitting shouldn’t even be an option. Still, people are leaving, or giving up… should we start choosing teams? Random is convenient, but it can really be uneven sometimes.
Wait, which of the two thousand above posts do you agree with, specifically? It makes a difference!
I propose we pick 2 experienced members as captains, they Steam message eachother and do the ‘draft’ and then just tell us the results so nobody knows how and when they got picked. Couldn’t hurt.
I thought L4D was worth my $25 and I really only got a good 4 or 5 serious Versus games out of it. Brought back the old QWCTF days for me.

Spooky’s idea is not too bad. I like a little randomness though and would prefer nominating 2 captains to each pick one player, then random the rest…
the other option 2, is if you have at least 2 new/less experienced players, just divide them and let everyone else get randomized
Right dude, we all know people who are ‘less good’ and it’s quite obvious, but regardless you can’t say it out loud or insinuate that about somebody without being a huge dick. It gets in the way of balancing teams even because nobody has the balls to say “___ is their worst player, lets trade him for ___ , one of our better ones.”

I am a terrible player, place me with whoever wont jump down my throat when I die repeatedly out of stupidity.
I suck at Demigod too, those guys are unforgiving.
I’m really enjoying versus mode and would like to play with some non-pickup groups.
I’m also very bad at this. :)
I don’t mind random games. I mean, I’ve been on my share of total stomps and occasionally it’s frustrating, but that’s ok!
A suggestion for people who want to pick teams to address Pyrhic’s concerns: Take one guy at random, and make him pick the teams. The problem with qt3’ers is we’re too nice and unsure to say anything cause we don’t want to be a dick (thought you wouldn’t know it if you just read P&R…) anyway, then that one guy tries his best to get some sort of semblance of balance and we’re chill.
Alternatively we should do themed games. All silly bunnyhoppers on one team vs. the crazy commando ninjas. Or drunk vs sober teams. hmmmmmmm.
Post or PM me your steam username.
Great now Spooky is gonna follow you around the internets…
I’ve been fine with the teams lately, but I’m also not playing every night cuz my current internet conenction is iffy at best. But team picking is fine with me, if it worked in the school yard with 8 year olds, I guess we can figure it out.
just pick Staff last:)
If Valve would just do some sort of stats ranking, it would make this a lot easier. You can’t argue with cold hard manipulatable player statistics

There is a stats page, but I guess no ranking. I thought it was funny that I have played 180 or so games now, but only finished 60 or so campaigns :)

If nothing else, I want to document that Jab, Trey and Pyrhic (and a pubber) got beat by the “B team” last night (LazyShiftlessBastart, SpookyKnifeGuy, StaffSeargant and me ). The pubber seemed pretty decent, so I don’t think it was that.
Normally we fix it so Trey and Jab aren’t on the same team, but last night we decided to go random. I don’t recall any whining / complaining of stacked teams after the teams were revealed.
It was actually quite close. If not for the 1st level where they had a ladder glitch and all died horribly messy deaths, the score would probably have been within 20pts of each other.
Really awesome game. Each subsequent level where we died quickly as survivors, I was positive they’d get through the level, but then they wouldn’t.
I think QT3 brings a whole new level to playing VS.
Sidenote: We used the Steam stats page to check the pubber and kicked the first one outright when he had only completed one campaign.
