That’s the worst friggin review I’ve read in the
last couple years. Get this guy some Prozac or a
girl friend as obviously something in his life is
going seriously wrong and he has decided to pour
all that negativity into this pitiful review. I
would pull this review. It’s a disgrace to Firing
Squad. Seriously!
I’d hasten to add that there is plenty of agreement with Tom, but, then again, U2 ain’t gonna win any GOTY awards. Well, they can’t all be Dark Cloud 2, can they? :)
More like they actually manage to say something about the game, rather than give a short report of a debriefing of a summary of the reviewer’s opinion =P
To be fair most AVault reviews tend to be 2 pages of comment, 1 page of score summaries, and then 1 or 2 pages of screenshots. They have followed this format for as long as I have read AVault.
But AV also have really longwinded articles like the latest one on screen refresh rates. It was interesting but I almost fell asleep reading it.

A long review isn’t a better review, but I think people are referring to being annoyed that it’s broken up over multiple pages, not that there are too many words.
I hate to admit it, but I’ve never read a full FiringSquad review either :\
But then again, I have an extremely short attention span… which is why I miss the 60 second reviews here. Those were perfect… if only they had given scores.

Nope, definitely too many words. Anything longer than two pages in a magazine and I skim.
I’ve read the Firing Squad reviews in full before. I usually focus on the hardware reviews, but even if I don’t read every page, I usually click through to read the odd facts/comments that are on the sidebar of every page.

Yeah, but two pages in a magazine is a more words than most of the four pagers at Firing Squad, isn’t it? Admittedly, most mag reviews aren’t a full two pages, filled as they are with screenshots, paragraph breaks, highlighted excerpts, etc. But neither are Firing Squad’s. Each page of text runs only a third of a webpage and is full of screenshots. (Do they get more ad impressions if they spread it out? If not, why bother?)
Even Avault’s most egregious verbal diarrhea is usually less than a full two print pages.
Anything over 1000 words is too much in most cases.
I just flashed on an image of Reggie Miller reading a pirate story to a bunch of kids, then looking at the camera in wide-eyed wonder and saying, “Reading is for queers.”
My attention span is getting so short, I think some reviews even have too many pictures. I want a quick 2 sentence summary or at least a big thumb pointing up or down before I decide on reading the review.
