The feeling is Obama didn’t go scorched earth, and that emboldened the Republicans to become as they are. They feel is Obama went hardline, the Republicans would have lost and backed down and we’d be better off.

Which while it may be true, I am personally mixed but do think he was to accommodating, the ultimate judgement is wrong.
Obama was a good man, as good as president can be at least. And he tried to do what is right for the country. I disagree with some of his decisions, and think his approach was a noble, if doomed to fail because he could not or would not recognize the reality of the time. That’s a failing of his, but not a moral one. Simply one of misjudging the political climate due to crazification. And it is easy to see how, in retrospect, his attempt to work with the GOP to try and pull them back from the brink was doomed to failure. But that is hindsight.
He was wrong, and many of us at the time felt that he was wrong and expressed so. But it was not certain in the moment that this was the case.

It’s so crazy that the Republican President of the United States spent years pushing a loony conspiracy theory that Obama faked his own birth certificate.
It really bothers you when some person somewhere says something dumb. There is no insurgent left. Broad differences of opinion in a party as diverse as the Democrats are not weird. Trump is not the fault of the Democrats. The extremist right has no equivalent on the left: neither in degree of extremity nor in penetration into the halls of power. Both sides don’t do it.

I watched the Michael Moore film “Fahrenheit 11/9” (it’s on Prime Video) this weekend, and I have to admit, this part of the documentary:
was really powerful and hit hard. I had forgotten that the President went there and parroted the Republican governor’s line that the water was okay now, and pretended his throat was dry and drank the tap water in front of this huge crowd. I’m also surprised that he couldn’t read the room. The silence was deafening as the crowd went from enthusiastic to heartbroken as they realized that he wasn’t there to help them.

In order to run for a federal Congressional seat in Texas, all you have to do is pay the $3125 filing fee. There’s no signature requirement; no requirement that a candidate be endorsed by anyone. Any lunatic can run, and any lunatic can say loony things.
