Well sure, but we make the GOP own their looney toons, so we need to own ours. The difference is theirs took over the entire house, and ours did not. We still have the toons though. That person right there… an extreme left person, and a nut. I don’t think there are that many nor are they even close to a majority that can take over the house.

Obama showed that middle of the road liberalism is dead, because Republicans hated Obama and still hate Obama with the fire of a thousand suns despite Obama doing everything possible to govern from the middle and not rock the boat. Conservatives today still tell themselves that Obama was “the most radical” president of their lifetime, that he “drove a wedge” between Republicans and Democrats, that Obama “declared he would never work under any circumstances” with Republicans, that Obama drove up the deficit, that the economy shrank under Obama, ect.

There’s no point in running in the middle because the GOP won’t work with you, won’t give you credit, will work to destroy you, slander you, and ruin you no matter what you stand for.

BUT… that ridiculous 5%-10% “independent” middle that doesn’t follow politics closely but is susceptible to both nostalgia and lack of information will punish you trying to do anything but what Obama did.

So I understand both sides’ frustration. Liberals want actual change and recognition that you get nothing for being moderate from the GOP. But being anything but moderate causes that annoyingly important 5% fraction to reject you and vote for the GOP. Like being trapped in an abusive relationship in an overtly patriarchal society that only protects the abusers, navigating national politics right now leads only to more and more frustration by liberals.

And part of the reason for that is that they hear endless stories that go: “Right wing extremists in the House support the President’s children-in-cages immigration policies, but a left wing nobody out in bumfuckistan somewhere used a crude, but extremist example to try to exemplify our fucked up healthcare system. Government is so dysfunctional. Politicians all suck. If only we could all just get along and come together.”

This thread isn’t about the majority of the left, it’s about the crazy stupid fringe guys.

The guy wishing cancer upon a popular president from your OWN party does in fact seem to be pretty insanely extreme.

He calls himself a socialist, like Bernie. Although Bernie, has stopped short of wishing that Obama got cancer.

That’s fair this guy isn’t a Democrat. He’s just so far to the left, that we wants Democrats to die of cancer.

Probably doesn’t wanna get those leopards that’ll eat OUR faces though!

OFFS. He had a parent die of cancer. He’s pissed at the healthcare system. He sees Obama as not having done enough to fix that system. He mouths off.

Fine. In the spirit of this thread, an anecdote: when I was at the bar Saturday evening, I overheard some dude at the next table talking to a friend who said that Republicans in Congress should be lined up in front of a wall and shot as traitors. Also one of the dads at my girlfriend’s daughter’s school jokingly said he wouldn’t vote for Buttigieg because he couldn’t pronounce his name. Fucking stupid liberals.

And then, after having time to reconsider… He doubles down on it, and then calls Obama a war criminal.

The dude’s just a crazy extreme idiot.

You don’t gotta defend him. His crazy only reflects badly on you if you defend him.

Was that dude running for Congress?

Did he go on Twitter the next day to say, “After giving this matter some thought, I want the world to know that I stand by my opinion. Republicans should indeed be lined up and shot.”?

If so, that dude’s an idiot.

As I pointed out above, all this guy did is pay a filing fee. That’s it. Anyone with money to burn can do that. It doesn’t make them notable. Every election, there are like 20 people on the ballot for California governor, many of whom are certifiable. This guy is running against Joaquin Castro, who definitely will have the Party’s endorsement in that primary election.

I have no idea, but folks say similar stuff on this forum nearly every day. Similarly public. Similar degree of notability.

Well, this idiot made the news. We here idiots don’t. And in this thread, that basically seems to be the threshold for opening fire.

You should’ve asked Armando to join you!

Yeah, I guess it seems to be, though what people posted earlier was just twitter posts, and you’ve sourced the San Antonio Current, which is a free events weekly like you might find littering the floor of your local coffee shop. If we’re piling on every random dude who enters a race anywhere or any piece of fluff printed in some alternative rag, we’re gonna be jumping at shadows until it gets dark.

As far as I’m aware, @ArmandoPenblade never advocates violence against the living. :)

That’s correct. Absolutist pacifism for the win!

Also give leftist extremists some fucking credit. I’ve been hardcore on the anti Obama train since goddamn 2007. This motherfucker strolls up in here with his sob story in 2019 and tries to hop aboard and pretend he’s been holding the line against The Goddamned Moderates the whole time? Get outta here loser. Show me your Mike Gravel 2008 donation receipts!

Remember when we were making fun of that Omarr guy who is apparently challenging Maxine Waters? He has no chance. He’s just an idiot. We make fun of him because he’s an idiot, not because he’s a cornerstone of the national GOP machine.

You mean the guy who won the GOP primary for that district in 2018, raised over a million dollars in donations and had the endorsement of the CA GOP?

Did he? I honestly don’t know. Did he run against anyone in that primary? Given he has no chance, at all, of winning… I’d have to think that wasn’t the most competitive primary.

This suggests he hasn’t actually won anything, and is just registered for the primary that takes place in March.
https://ballotpedia.org/Omar_Navarro

Oh wait, he also ran in 2018, so let’s go find out what happened there. In that case, he must have at least made it past the primary, since he got crushed in the general.

The results are weird… Does California have that weird thing where the top two people just move into the general election? Cause there doesn’t seem to be a record of a traditional Republican primary… It’s Maxine Waters, and then a bunch of folks who got basically no votes, with Navarro getting more than the others.

So, he “won” the primary, in that he came in second, in a primary race that no one was really competing in, because Waters was just gonna crush whoever came in second anyway. (Which she did)

I guess he got a million dollars? Probably from imbeciles on the internet? I know that the only reason i know if him is because he is a Twitter troll who tried to get first response to Trump tweets, telling everyone that he was running to take down Maxine Waters, so i can assume he suckered a lot of idiots out of money. I find it hard to believe that the national GOP bothered wasting money on him.

Either way, you can totally feel free to make fun of him. But he’s a joke, right? That’s kind of why we make fun of him.

He’s not going to win against Maxine Waters.

Maybe’s Matt point is the GOP seems to support that guy while our twit is just that, a twit that paid a fine who is still… a Democrat, or at least mostly, you know, kind of like Bernie and of course Democrats challenging other Democrats isn’t’ a new thing.

Yes, last election was the first time that has come into play.
