On one of work calls, one of the managers was in a snuggie because he was cold. 58 in January. It was like 38 here. I mean almost 60 here would be a tease that we’re about to hit Spring!

The director of that department said, “We are prioritizing antiracist arts instruction in our work.” So they got rid of the acronym “VAPA,” which is short for visual and performing arts.
From now on, they’ll simply be called SFUSD Arts Department.
In a letter, he explains that acronyms are a symptom of white supremacy culture.
“The use of so many acronyms within the educational field often tends to alienate those who may not speak English to understand the acronym,” he added.
I’m not sure SFUSD is better than VAPA.
I don’t speak Russian, but I know who FSB are. Most immigrants know who ICE is. Non-English speakers in other countries know who NASA and the FBI/CIA are, much less in the US.

I like that my university arts department is named after a person with a short name that is also a pretty type of bird. Works out great.

True, but not in their power years and not in a job where they can be fired or lose an election. I mean, let’s be real, everyone over the age of 55 or so has gray hair. Lots of it, if not all of it. Now think about all the Congresswomen above that age, I’d guess 90% color their hair, pretty much like most women over that age. Us men get to look distinguished with gray hair, women not at all.
