Covid isn’t the cold. The one thing I’ve learned from reading many of the links that @espressojim has provided is my intuitive understanding of how the human immune system works is crap. You add to that the numerous surprise of this NOVEL cornavirus and making assumption about how this disease spreads is a fools errand.
That last I heard kids are unlikely to spread it.

It is a good question. I honestly can’t tell if teachers are considered 1B or 1C in Hawaii. I think the department of health is being deliberately vague. It is also worth noting that teachers are considered frontline workers was adopted before this new studies were published.
I think it’s important to define who fits the definition of a kid. Is it K-6? K-8? When does a kid spread just like an adult? Are high school students kids or adults, from a spread perspective? It might be fine for K-6 teachers to return, but much more risky for teachers of older kids.
My understanding is it K-8. Although, probably a 6"2 200lbs 8th grader is more like an adult when it comes to spreading. But K-6 or K-8 should be priority cause it is easier for older kids to learn virtually.
The other thing that seems increasingly likely that there is a connection between the quantity of viral low and the severity of the disease. So while High school kids, and college kids may spread it as efficiently as adults, the likelihood of them spread a particularly severe case is probably lower. (This is more speculation than fact at this point)

My stepsons middle school has managed to avoid any major outbreaks this entire school year. They did shut down for a few weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas when our case counts really started going crazy, but the reported cases from the school have all been low and seemingly always isolated incidents rather than widespread spread within the school.

Elementary schools are petri dishes waiting to spread disease. I don’t think I have ever gone thru a period in my life when I seemed to get colds or whatever as when my kids were in elementary school.

I’ll concur: here is a Democrat pol saying stupid shit. That said, he’s not taking a liberal position on this issue. He’s mouthing a reactionary law-and-order line from a couple of decades ago. If he was objecting to how the game series has zero female protagonists or tries to excuse its stereotyped portrayals of minorities by winking at the audience there might be something there to sneer at.

That’s the fatal flaw in every “blame it on games” argument. Somehow every other country in the world is able to avoid massive gun violence and carjackings even though they play games just as much as we do.

I think this would normally be a trivial objection, but Labour has recently been accused of anti-semitism so they should know better.
