Timex that’s what the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program is already for.

Well it sounds like that sucks balls.

I can’t find the letter that was sent to Cardona, but from the article it sounds like the only thing they are demanding is for Biden to deliver what President Bush promised to them.

Yep and what almost 100% actually couldn’t get their forgiveness… that’s how bad it was.

It is beyond unforgiving to have people make life decisions and dedicate their lives for a program that doesn’t actually work.

We’re better off just forgiving a certain amount across the board. 8k, 10k… don’t know. Just give a valid number using an approximate about how much you want to do and what the goal is to free those people up… call it good.

"It’s not as simple as saying you “work” in public service. The Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program is a federal program that forgives federal student loans for borrowers who are employed full-time (more than 30 hours per week) in an eligible federal, state or local public service job or 501©(3) nonprofit job who make 120 eligible on-time payments.

The requirements can be tricky. Many applications were rejected due to missing or incomplete information, or not meeting the program requirements. The most recent data reflects some of earliest applicants to the program, which started in 2007, and required 10 years of student loan payments. Over time, the approval rates should increase as more borrowers become familiar with the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program."

The requirements are rather strict.

Personally, I would love to see a tiered system. Every year of service reduces 1/10 of the loans original Principle. That way you don’t have to work 10 years before you know you screwed up.

In any case, I would prefer to see what the stats look like under the Biden Administration, now that we have a person that isn’t evil incarnated in charge.

I honestly don’t know if this would go here or somewhere else, but Kshama Sawant, the outspoken leftist firebrand of Seattle, may be in some trouble due to actions she took during protest marches.

Sawant is being accused of violating her role as a council member during the height of Seattle protests. Recall organizers allege a series of violations, including that Sawant used her passkey to City Hall, allowing protesters into the building, and that she appeared at a protest outside Mayor Jenny Durkan’s Seattle home.

The court affirmed, in part, a trial court’s ruling that Sawant used city resources to promote a ballot initiative and failed to comply with public disclosure requirements.

She also, according to the ruling, disregarded state COVID-19 orders and endangered city workers by allowing hundreds of people into City Hall while it was closed due to the pandemic.

Finally, she led protesters to Durkan’s home - the location which was protected under confidentiality laws - which is a violation of Seattle code.

The first and second points seem valid.

Third probably valid (though really just part of the first point). Fourth questionable at best.

I think the last one was that the mayor was a former prosecutor, and her home was protected so that criminals couldn’t target and kill her family.

But if you run for public office afterwards, i dunno if you can expect that confidentiality to stay in place.

Ah, that makes some sense then. I thought it was just a mayoral thing, which seems very off.

Also tend to agree I’m not sure that should carry over if you become mayor, though I’m sure it’s one of those things that lasts forever.

Yeah I don’t see how a mayor can hide from the public. If you don’t want to deal with the public, don’t run for office.

Jay Inslee’s house is not too far from mine and protests happen there all the time.

I thought this was the proper place to vent.

I’m on a lot of Democratic mailing lists. That’s fine, I’m a member of the party and I do a fair amount of stuff so I kind of expect to get a bunch of spam asking for money. I have a few macros that just shunt a lot of them into a folder for later review and eventual deletion.

But recently the types of emails I’ve been getting and the tone of those emails have changed. Instead of coming from someone’s campaign staff, they have customized “from” addresses. And instead of general pleas for cash they have misleading and annoying ploys for my attention… and then they beg for cash. Here’s a selection from just today:

Ugh. Opening some of them up (which I pretty much never do), they contain many of the same things that we made fun of the Trump campaign for including just a few months ago. Stuff like implying that I’m personally on someone’s radar and that they will be SO VERY DISAPPOINTED in me if I don’t respond, or that there is some ridiculous time limit on my response and if I don’t hit “reply” soon something terrible is going to happen. Again, here’s one from just today:

Golly, they can’t use the dataset without me because they only sent it to four super-important people! I’d better get right the fuck on that!

I didn’t include the ticking clock animated GIF down at the bottom – it resets to 30 minutes each time you open the email… as well as sending a notification back to the mothership that I opened the email, no doubt.

If you want to beat the NRA, send the bankruptcy prosecutors a sandwich so they can concentrate on their case.

I get multiple emails daily from both warnock and ossoff describing their upcoming downfalls that can only be staved off if i donate now. titles like ‘uh oh’ and ‘its looking bad’

Your screenshots look a lot like the spam that automatically gets filtered out for me. You sure they’re not just flat-out scams? (Well, I mean more scammy than a lot of political fundraising can be :) ) I don’t think I’ve had a “fundraising” email make it past the filters for me yet.

Yeah, I started getting a constant stream of these after donating to Biden. Thanks Biden! More seriously, someone along the line need to get way more serious about how they’re sharing out these mailing lists. I can’t think of a better way to demoralize your supporters.

Yep, same though in my case it all started with donating to Bernie in the 2016 primaries. Just barrel-scraping clickbait social media-type headlines and constant begging. I report them all as spam. Have fun managing your score with the email gatekeepers, fuckers!

I’ve complained about this before. Apparently if you give even $1 to a single Democratic campaign you go on a list to get tons of additional donation requests from random other campaigns, some not even in your state.

It’s insane.

It took me months to get off those lists. It makes me hesitate every single time I want to donate again. I still get junk physical mail because of donating before.

Always use a burner email when donating.

Nesrie, not sure if you’re aware but Gmail lets you do this pretty easily. If your address is username@gmail.com then you can list it as username+tag@gmail.com. It will still reach you, but you can then filter all username+tag email to spam (and of course replace tag with whatever you want). My spam folder is constantly getting username+dem@gmail.com email ever since I donated.

You can also randomly sprinkle periods in your username, for example use.rname@gmail or us.e.r.name@gmail, then filter all those emails to spam.
