Don’t talk about Bob Dole’s onion. Bob Dole doesn’t like that.

Yeah, I’m not sure why skirts are a thing in school uniforms, particularly now that they’ve become fetishized. Have all the kids wear slacks and polos.

I know one case guys at a school two years ago wore skirts in protest of what they saw as gender issues in the dress code.

That said, dress codes are mostly used to police women- that’s what they were for when I grew up.

As somebody who grew up with school uniforms I think you’re overstating their potential impact. Its not like they in any way shape or form hid the class divide. The rich kids still had more expensive shoes, coats/jackets & bags etc… And the poor kids still got a raw deal.

As Alstein says, good culture is key here.

That’s just life, though. Some people are better off than others. If one kid can’t participate, we cancel everything instead of helping the one kid? If some kids have awesome lunches and other kids have wonder bread with bologna, shouldn’t we give the wonder bread kids better food rather than make the other kids eat shitty sandwiches?

I post this in the liberals thread because it’s an example of well meaning (I assume) liberals sucking the fun out of things in the name of fairness. Melrose can afford to spent a few bucks at Spirit Halloween to get costumes for the poor kids. Let kids have fun.

Even then, folks would know they were given the costumes.

There’s really no way to make things easier for the poor, other than improving the lot of the poor society-wide, and that’s socialism, and the biggest reason why I am a believer in it.

I don’t have a strong opinion about this issue but I’m inclined to support this view.

It’s also probably the “educational administration” effect - our schizophrenic demands on the education system, and the usually very average and provincial nature of educational administrators means these kinds of overreactions seem to be more common there. Like the Texas school just a few weeks ago that went around banning everything to do with race and social justice - part of it was surely a culture war agenda, but part of it was the tyranny of provincial administrators taking things literally to the point of absurdity.

Here it sounds like a well meaning PTA / admin that can’t figure out what to do and has no ideas or solutions, just worries and complaints, so they just ban the whole thing. That’s often the solution when your are steering a many-headed hydra that can’t make up its mind which way to go.

well, it IS the style at this time.

I think I finally got something a liberal said that everyone will agree was stupid.

That’s just de Blasio following Matt_W’s 2nd Rule of Life: “never admit you know anything about Star Trek.”

Not sure if this should be in the LIberals do stupid shit thread, but never-Trumpers did a massively dumb shit that might cost the Dems dearly.

How do you think this is going to hurt the Dems dearly?

By having the news talk about Charlottesville? I don’t think that’s going to help the GOP a lot… Pretty sure that’s the last thing they would want.

It might hurt them in VA since I think some VA Dems were part of it.

Mostly it hurts LP if anything. I haven’t seen any talking about it since it happened and came out, so I’m guessing Timex is right in that the GOP doesn’t want to remind people they’re the pro-Nazi party.

They’ll talk about how it was a false flag, and that might turn some folks off, thinking all the Dems can do is be anti-Trump.

I mean, the complaint that the GOP would have to make would be, “the Lincoln project dressed as our supporters.”

They didn’t even do anything while dressed like that. Not really sure what the “false flag” argument would be.

“These guys dressed like our supporters, but they really aren’t!”

I think you’re mostly right, but being douchebag assholes isn’t priced into the Democratic Party like it is for Republicans, so if some people start associating this stunt with Dems it could turn them off.

Again though … The “stunt” in question here was simply … Dressing like right wing Trump supporters.

That’s literally all they did.

How is that even bad?

It does feed into the existing RW conspiracy of “literally everything is a false flag operation”.

But for most people I don’t think it’s on their radar.

I suppose the idea would be “People dressed as Nazis and pretended that Nazis support us to make us look bad when we obviously don’t”. Which shouldn’t work on anyone with two brain cells to rub together, but gesticulates wildly at the world today

It will come up in the next election cycle when the GOP claims those right wing crazies are plants.
