This is actually the part which could have started a kind of interesting conversation.
The idea of racial bigotry within the American context is very heavily based upon skin color, although I think even in America the white supremacists ALSO believe that groups like the Jews aren’t actually white. Hell, at some point in the past, everyone who was “swarthy” looking like Italians weren’t accepted as white. Or hell, Irish people weren’t considered white by many Americans at one point.
I think whoopi’s statement was kind of narrow minded, but ultimately she admitted this, and I think it would have been enjoyable to lots of people who shared her misconceptions to learn about why the Holocaust was very much race based, if perhaps different from what drives racial bigotry in America.

Never mind that Johnstone is an avowed socialist, not a liberal. Yes, I’m aware that some people think there isn’t any difference between the two, but there isn’t any reason IMO to encourage that sort of folly.
