Has anyone given Cubic Currency a try? Not much info on it I could find.
I tried it! Pretty simple early on, of course, but I can see how they’re layering in more gameplay mechanics. You get a few dice early in the day, and you have to trade them for money and more dice, hopefully turning a profit over the course of the day. At the end of the day, you cash in all your dice and tally your earnings. After a few days, you have to hit a certain monetary threshold or you fail.
Where the dice element comes into play is that you get powers to manipulate them. Re-rolls, increment them up or down, split them into more dice, trade lower values for a single higher value, and so forth. There are also random modifiers than can apply, and here’s where I “nope’d” out of Cubic Currency: the random modifier I got on the first day – not sure if this is scripted or not – was something about hot weather. The dice start to “melt” if you don’t touch them. So now there’s a dexterity-based element where I have to keep picking up dice while managing transactions and powers, or else they’ll dissolve. It wasn’t too demanding, but I would characterize it as “annoying”. I’m not keen on real-time dexterity-based busywork in my dice management puzzles, so I quit out.
Note, however, that I didn’t uninstall. So there’s still hope for Cubic Currency.

Thanks, enough said. I’m not going to get much fun out of real-time clicking/dexterity. Not what I look for in a game.

Is anyone playing Blaseball? This is a text based massively multiplayer baseball betting simulation that seems to be gaining viral popularity. I can’t really say more than that without spoiling the hook of the incremental game elements. That said, Blaseball is a living thing - like Saltybet or watching Twitch Plays Pokemon, the joy is watching the player driven events and meta bloom. I’m placing my bets for the next round of games in 30 minutes right now.
With that said, some friendly advice: always bet on the Steaks.
Damn, it’s one of those sites that’s bright white text on a black background so my eyes won’t let me play. :(
Dang @bobtree, not sure whether to offer blessing or curse for posting this one :-P
I bought it, am kinda hooked on it . . . I am kinda thinking it will become an appetiser that provokes me to seek out a full fat rib eye steak 4X game as a second course. Right now, loving the stripped down slightly cute simplicity of it. Also adding it to the short list of games that are easy to play with just one hand on a mouse whilst eating nacho’s with the other hand.
I’ll add that if you are a mobile gamer the mobile version is also really good.
Yeah, it’s a decent mobile game, but unless they changed a lot for PC, once you get the hang of it every game plays out more or less the same.
Whoa , this might be a hidden gem , its still in early access.
Humble Games is really enlarging their publishing stable. They released a bunch of trailers for Gamescom. These ones caught my attention:
Remember Strike Commander? Well, if you remember it fondly, this looks like it might be for you:
Old skool FPS with a level editor:
A document-driven mystery game? I don’t know if the trailer looks exciting, but the concept has promise:
A tactical RPG in a pixel-art Harry Potter world? This caught my eye earlier in the year.
A game where you can move chunks of the world around to solve people’s problems. I played a bit of this for the IGF competition, and it’s very clever.
Ninja Gaiden/Stryder homage
I’ve played Prodeus, and it’s AMAZING. Project Wingman looks to be great too, based on its Kickstarter.
Figured it might be worth mentioning that Cloudpunk gets a release on PS4, Switch and Xbox One on October 15th.

As someone who hasn’t yet played Ace Combat, Wingman looks an awful lot like Ace Combat.
Scrapnaut looks interesting - survival base building with some base defense action. They say there’s a Prologue (which I assumed is a free demo) but it wasn’t available when I went to the page. Game releases September 9.
