I haven’t but this looks right up my alley, and Steam reviews are pretty upbeat about it. Might give it a whirl.

Hades is brilliant. Such great writing.

2D platforming hack & slash rogue-lite.

I bought it last night since it was on sale at green man gaming for 21 bucks and change. I will likely spend a couple hours over the weekend it and will report back!

Dragons vie with jets for control of the skies

Wasn’t this the plot of a movie with guys jumping out of helicopters to take down the dragons? And the people live in castles for some reason?

That would be Reign of Fire.

Yup, that was the one I was thinking of! How in the hell did they get Matthew McConaughey and Christian Bale to do that film I wonder!

It was 2002. Neither of them had done anything huge yet. That was the same year Equilibrium came out, for reference. Gerard Butler was also in Reign of Fire.

I mean I think people knew McConaughey from Dazed and Confused. (Which I’ve never seen.) But I don’t think he was big in the public consciousness, certainly. Not quite sure when he hit that point, honestly. I think I first really took notice of him in True Detective, but he’d had lead roles and stuff before that.

I’m not sure, either, but it was after 2002. Bale also had American Psycho before Reign of Fire, but that was likewise kind of a cult film.

I remember thinking he was playing against type in RoF though, so he was established enough in my mind from things like Contact and Wedding Singer for me to double take on his character. RoF is firmly in my “guilty pleasure” list of films (although it gets smaller by the year).

You are correct, but – (authoritative nerd throat-clearing sound) – there were no jets in Reign of Fire and they lived in castles because England. Also, the dragons eat ash, so they burned down all the cities and ate the ashes, leaving only castles standing for people to live in.

I’m not sure why Mythgard leads with a “dragons vs jets” line in that blurb. They’ve got way more than that going on. It’s a fairly typical online CCG, but it’s way more imaginative with its theming than dragons vs jets. And it’s got some really nice artwork. For instance, here’s a location you can play into a slot to add healing to that slot:

There are dragons, though. The Emperor Koi is the dragon card for the purple decks, which are Japanese/cyber themed:

Mr. Snuggles is the uber-badass 9/9 creature for the red horror-themed decks:

The yellow futuristic Aztec decks have an infectious debuff called blight that applies -1/-1 to enemies and spreads to adjacent cards each turn. Here’s the artwork for the Yana Virus card:

So you’d never know by the blurb, but there’s a lot more going on than dragons vs jets. In fact, the only dragon vs jet I see isn’t even a dragon, it’s a wyvern and it’s not much of a vs, because the jet seems like won’t be much of a contender in whatever battle is about to happen. Behold the Ironbelly Wyvern:

Great art stuffs.

Demo / Alpha for this was pretty good:

Oooh. Ever play The Oil Blue? (By the creator of Cook, Serve, Delicious!) That looks like a much more joyous version of that basic premise.

Well, it worked. My oldest and I both played it some today. I love digital card games so I’ll down for playing more too.

Re: Mythguard. Dang it, I really do not need another compelling digital CCG hehe. Faeria is my drug of choice, supplemented by Gwent. Now this too?

I agree, @Lykurgos.

Do we think there will be enough Mythgard specific discussion to warrant its own thread?

If you make a thread, there will be.

The Exorcist as an Apple II adventure game, but with some striking rotoscoped animations. There is a demo.
