Little Indie Games Worth Knowing About (Probably)

I can’t tell if you are joking or not, but I think this assumption has done Massive Chalice much harm.

Thanks for the link, @Misguided!

Love it when they test out the Mac and Linux build simultaneously, thanks a lot to Unity.

Typically, cross platform is neglected and just assumed that ports would be easy. Until some graphics library effects is used and then oops they realise that it’ll be too costly to implement on other platforms apart from Windows.

@Left_Empty - I am serious, as least as far as the combat system goes. True, the terrain isn’t destructable, but for me that’s minor.

For anyone who hasn’t already bought it, it’s on sale this week at GOG for 2 pieces of gold-pressed Latinum.

Incidentally, Massive Chalice is a 1.99 at GOG.

Well, Queen Under the Mountain’s had an important update:

The end-of-the-month Update is here! We’ve added Sex, Pooping & Toilets, The Plague, Jewels & the Jeweller.

Sex and pooping, and now it’s being renamed Hairy Little Buggers. Isn’t that a bit racialist?

Dunno about racist but that term is still used as a slur towards gay men in the UK, which I hope the game author was simply unaware of.

Queen under the Mountain before that… Yeah, he must be totally unaware ;)

Huh, I’ve had my eye on that game for ages. Weird name change.

Not English, but my parents were. My father used bugger constantly. Never in a derogatory way directed at someone though. Hell, he would call me it jokingly all the time.

Oh for sure, it can be used even as a term of endearment, but in the UK so can “cunt”. Our people are a weird bunch :)

The best use of the word bugger:

Has anyone tried Rise to Ruins, it’s currently on sale today at chrono.gg for 4 Trump bucks:

https://chrono.gg/

It looks like Rimworld but with worse graphics.

The Game Formerly Known As Retro-Pixel Castles, for reference.

Even though I understand what the word “bugger” is referencing, it never occurred to me that it might be a slur. Hmm.

That said, my problem with the new name is that Queen Under the Mountain sounds like a game I want to play! Who’s this queen? What’s she doing under a mountain? Is she going to come out?

Hairy Little Buggers, on the other hand, sounds like something I’d scrape off the bottom of my shoe. Ugh.

-Tom

Which is how i felt with a game called Mount Your Friends. Ugh.

This is due out on the 10th. Anyone looking forward to it?

Looks like a demo for this appeared on Itch.io.

[details=Warbanners]Warbanners is a fast-pased turn-based, story-driven, strategy game with role-playing elements. As commander of the mercenary squad known as the “Silver Griffins”, you will discover ancient artifacts, solve dark mysteries and crush your enemies.

How your adventure unfolds is up to you: along the way you will be called upon to make difficult choices, many of which will have unforeseen consequences. Warbanners’ combat mechanics include consideration of a number of factors, such as lighting levels, direction of gaze, morale, and fatigue. Additionally, many of the objects on the battlefield are interactive. For example, you can cut down or set fire to trees, and freeze rivers to change the landscape to your advantage. Why not build a bridge or a barricade, dig ditches, or move objects to confound your enemies?

As your mercenaries level up, they will learn new skills and their attributes will improve. Further, each “Griffin” can be equipped with magical potions and artifacts to imbue them with a plethora of buffs. Finally, you can bolster your company with the Assistants scattered throughout the world. They do not fight, but for a modest joining fee will convey bonuses that may just turn the tide of battle in your favour.

This is the guy behind Drums of War and Golden Swords.

Oh, I had no idea he did other games in English. Thanks for the heads-up on Golden Swords and Warbanners. I really enjoyed Drums of War’s environmental puzzle challenges.

Warbanners looks interesting.
