Little Indie Games Worth Knowing About (Probably)

Conker’s potty and toilet humor might not have been my cup of tea, and I kept staring daggers at my friend the whole time since he insisted I should play it, but one thing it’s not is forgettable. I remember a lot of vomiting in a night club and fighting a giant poo monster and many other questionable “funny” moments.

Well, I got to admit, I did chuckle a bit here. It’s so wonderfully absurd.

Does not compute.

Anyway, Conker was awesome. It was a full on Banjo + Kazooie style collectathon single player game combined with a half dozen wildly different silly multiplayer modes, most of which were pretty fun. We played more Conker than Goldeneye at university.

I find myself a lot more amenable to potty humor now that I’ve had a kid. After you change diapers and are around poo a lot, you start thinking, wait, why did potty humor turn me off so much before? It’s perfectly acceptable!

As for Aliens, it’s been a long time, jeez! It’s even older than Conker. I know I should probably rewatch it, but any time I think I should rewatch an old movie, I get this guilt, wait, shouldn’t you watch something you haven’t seen instead? There’s a million of those!

Edit: Oh hey, nice pull on that screenshot. I do NOT remember that! :)

I was very leery of Conker’s Bad Fur Day from all the advertising and dialogue focusing on the scatological parts, but when they did a remake for…Xbox? Xbox 360? I ended up Gameflying it and had a great time. It’s an extremely silly game with a very weird sense of humor that sure, includes fighting a singing poo boss but also loads of other sorts of gags. And the remake at the time looked amazing, graphically. Anyway, I don’t know that this indie game will have any of that side of Conker.

I played an hour of Gori (Cuddly Carnage) and it’s great* so far.
This one is on Utomik, but I’ll probably buy it.

Never played the original but that poo song made me laugh. Feel like the Phantom of the Bwahpera from Mario + Rabbids was influenced by that. Wouldn’t be surprised with Grant Kirkhope having worked at Rare for years.

It’s funny, has some atmosphere, consistent well done art and does a lot of things right gameplay wise; at first glance at least. Adventuring in the sense of Battle Brothers with production values like, well, watch the trailer : )

Megaloot has launched on Steam, and it has a demo.

Really enjoyed the prologue they had for Megaloot. Steam forums are complaining it gets old quickly

Yeah, that’s basically because there’s no meta, no unlocks, just see how far you can get without being killed. No endgame, apparently. Apparently gameplay is quite fun, there’s just no goal to shoot for. I’m not sure why they didn’t put in a high scores screen, at least.

We watching a streamer play megaloot yesterday. He was in an hour in with no sign of letting up, so he just bailed.

I think this could actually use some difficulty spikes, as strange as it sounds, perhaps with biome transitions and maybe some path choices.

Commandos alike. Has a demo and a manual!

Pilot a mech! What? Oh, wait, from an overhead perspective. Nevermind. :(

“Lead an unlikely team of commando scientists behind enemy lines to fight Nazis, uncover arcane mysteries, and wield experimental technology to turn the tide of WWII”

Panzerkleins, ho!

Mortisimal had a video

This pseudo-retro game compilation got a 9/10 in the latest Edge magazine.

Is that the Derek Yu thing?
