Little Indie Games Worth Knowing About (Probably)

TMI23

Mr. Brian, you did it again. Making me wanting to buy a game I never considered before!

Always happy to help. :)

what games of theirs would you recommend?

I’d recommend playing the freeware early games, as they set up the world and offer a nice variety (a couple are text-based dungeon crawlers, and one is a shop simulation upon which about all the rest of their production will be based).
For payware, my favorites are some of the older ones, but I do not know if it was because of my state of mind back then or because they had a more genuine quality to them - after all, a bit like Kairo, Inu to Neko merely iterates on the exact same formula over and over. They are Kaiyo Restaurant Umineko-Tei (which got a reportedly atrocious localization effort on Steam, as well as a recent iOS port) and Harvest Green.
Be advised they are Japanese, and as such, there is tons and tons of small talk and if the characters get on your nerves, nothing can be done!

This should be a disclaimer splash screen before every Japanese game.

At least in the case of this little studio, there is zero innuendo or perverted relationships. Their games are even light on misogyny!
Mm, maybe all that is actually a liability, these days.

But does it have tentacle porn?

Damn, Team17 has published some great stuff recently. This looks phenomenal:

Wait, they’ve made games other than Worms rehashes?

Published. Not made. They also published Yoku’s Island Express, My Time at Portia, and others.

That combat looks very Banner Saga-ish

Nowhere Prophet is popping up in the Steam upcoming release list, around the middle of August.

Is the word out whether this will be the full release or Early Access? The developper was considering options a few months back, it seems.

omg finally! and where is BAD NORTH?!

From the dev on the game’s Discord channel:

July 5, 2018

Well, there’s not goong to be a steam early access.

Moving towards proper launch now. But it’s stoll going to be some time

When asked if there’s a reason for skipping Steam EA, he replied:

July 5, 2018

well, I had a lot of thoughts on that and it basically sums up as:

moving from steam EA to steam launch is “meh” for press.

I’m small and my release is the one moment I can get some serious attention (if I’m lucky) so I want to maximize that

so a full first steam launch is going to do better there. also it’ s hopefully going to be more of a day-1 sales bump, whichi n turn pushes me up in visibility etc.

So putting more “eggs” into the launch basket, so to say

So this looks…INTERESTING

Rumor has it Tom will be streaming it on Wednesday!

Not a rts guy, but this reminds me of old iOS favorite whose name I can’t remember

“Powerful new units” and “18 new empires” - is this a sequel to something?

Uh, I think it was a glorified demo at one point, available for free. They improved the graphics, added more stuff, and made it into a proper game.

Ahh, got it. Looks fun, and hopefully not too pricey.
